  • Dear headphone355: "Police Story", "Police Woman" and "That's My Mama" were CPT properties during this period. Unfortunately, Sony replaced this logo with its current one. The first season of "Police Story" (1973-74) is or will be out on DVD, but we don't know yet whether the Screen Gems "S From Hell" or Sony will appear following the closing credits. I plan on buying a copy and when I find out, you'll find out.

  • @blackorby4 Screen Gems was simply renamed Columbia Pictures Television, but kept the music (though shortened).

  • @davemadson From your video called ''Television Escapes The Blue Mountain: The Original Saga''?

  • This was also seen on The Rookies and its spin-off series S.W.A.T.

  • @tnawcwvictoria No offense intended, but I don't recall seeing that logo in the original Spelling Goldberg broadcasts on ABC unless if the end credits had "in association with" at the end (which I doubt), and then you would see it (providing it was prior to fall 1976). However, I think you would see the sunburst and the other updated Columbia/Sony logos when it was broadcast in syndication (would have been after '76)

  • @sed1228 You didn't offend me and thanks for the info

  • @tnawcwvictoria You're very welcome!

  • sounds almost EXACTLY like the screengems logo. just with the first few notes taken off! does that mean that screen gems merged with columbia pictures television?

  • @TheTmpratt i just saw 3 other comments talking about this! why did you post them on all those videos?

  • @TheTmpratt Screen Gems has always been a part of Columbia Pictures from the start. In 1974 they decided to retire the Screen Gems name and renamed it Columbia Pictures Television.

  • @KCOliver1960 ah, ok thanks for telling me.

  • A bit of trivia concerning this first CPT logo from 1974: the arrangement of the words on it ("Columbia" and "Pictures" on each side, "Television" at the bottom, with a Columbia Pictures Industries byline below) seemed to, in a way, serve as a schematic for/preview of the Coke and CPE Torch Ladies of the 80s and early 90s, with the same words in the same places, and Coke/CPE bylines below, but on a representation of the Mona Lisa. Did you know that?

  • I wasn't around in th 70's, but did they use it on All in th family, Sandford and Son, Maude, or Good Times? Or did the Norman Lear sitcoms not utilize this logo until later?

  • @dubs19842009: This logo was not used on the Lear shows in syndication: Viacom had the syndication rights then (70's to mid-80's.) Later, Sony Pictures Television came to own Lear's companies (Tandem, Embassy Pictures, and TAT Communications) and thus, the Sony Pictures Television (previously Columbia/Tri-Star Television) logo would be seen (sometime in the 2000's).

  • @dubs19842009 Having been around in the 70s, I've never seen any Columbia logo on the original broadcasts of these shows (and even in syndication today) and I don't think you would have. That's because I just went on to Wikipedia and found out that Norman Lear's company wasn't sold to Columbia Pictures until 1985. The only production credits I saw in these shows were directly in the closing credits.

  • @dubs19842009 In addition, All in the Family, Maude, and Good Times have the "CBS, Recorded at Television City, Hollywood, California" credit at the end since they were all recorded a the CBS Television City studios as well as broadcasted on CBS itself.

  • @sed1228 and let's not forget One Day at a Time Starring Bonnie Franklin also have the CBS Recorded at Television City, Hollywood, California

  • @tnawcwvictoria You're right! I had forgotten about that. I just found out that there were two taping locations, Metromedia Square and, of course, CBS Television City.

  • that.. looks.. nasty..

  • @joman66 screen gems?

  • I see the S from Hell logo left itself an heir to its horror after Screen Gems folded.

  • thats the same fanfare as screen gems s from hell logo

  • that doesn't look like all columbia's logos

  • Ironically, that "pretzel" logo is really "the glow from The Lady's torch"(Jeb H. Perry, "Screen Gems: A History of Columbia Pictures Television from Cohn to Coke, 1948-1983", The Scarecrow Press).

  • Sadly, they went from a smart design with Screen Gems to this ugly one that looks like a key. I wonder what door it opened.

    Shall I take what's behind Door #3?

  • Looks like a square pretzi.

  • The CPT pretzel logo, man , I could take a bite out of that one.

  • Does anyone know the film production company that shows a screenshot of and egyptian court with columns and wall paintings? I am trying to find the clip that introduces the name of the company.

  • That sounds oddly familiary....do you remember any of the shows that used this logo? Were there letters in the logo? What colors?

  • Re:The "S from Hell" is back but has a new look...more crystallized and I've seen it in the beginning of the Underworld movies and in "The Covenant"

I Saw That Logo At The Beginning Of Lakeview Terrance!

  • The ghost of Eric Siday lives!

  • Well they did bring back the original S From Hell on Bewitched and Jeannie reruns. First on TV Land, and currently on WGN America. Looks like they actually worked on the logo to restore it to its original color after years of deterioration.

  • I've noticed that too.

  • I wish that companies would leave the old logos on their tv shows!

  • @chocolateman85006

    Amen!!!

  • I've *never* seen this before! I recognize the theme; it was used by Screen Gems!

  • I never saw it because I assumed that the "Evil S" was still around

  • The "S from Hell" is back but has a new look...more crystallized and I've seen it in the beginning of the Underworld movies and in "The Covenant"

  • This logo bears a strong resemblance to the logo used by Colonial Penn Insurance during the 1980's.

  • Despite coming out after the series run, it was also used for some I Dream of Jeannie episodes.

  • Hey does that theme music sounds like the Screen Gems logo S from Hell?

  • It's the exact same one.

  • I remember Police woman and Police story using this in around 1974-75.

  • This logo was used for several of its shows including "Bewitched","Policewoman","Police Story",not to mention the shows "Born Free",

    "Bridget Loves Bernie","That's My Mama",and

"The Partridge Family". All that would change in 1976.

  • "Bewitched" was already off the air for 2 years when this logo first came on the scene in the fall of 1974.

  • This is my favourite Columbia Pictures Television logo.

  • This survived on a couple of TV movies (particularly on the "Matt Helm" series pilot from '74 which ran on Encore Mystery a few years back).

  • "Ф" logo is cool

  • Greatest American Hero.

  • What shows used this, the first official Columbia Pictures Television logo after it changed its name from Screen Gems? That's my very best favourite TV logo.

  • I believe Starsky & Hutch would've during its first two seasons. Among others, that is.

  • "Starsky & Hutch" was an Aaron Spelling production (which had no closing logo then). At the time it went to syndication, the short version of the CPT Sunburst logo was tacked on at the end.

  • Oh... for some reason, I thought different.

  • @headphone355

    It could be seen on:

    *That's My Mama (1974-1976)

*Police Story (1974 to 1976 episodes and specials)

*Police Woman (1974 to 1976 episodes)

    *Nakia

  • @ClassicTVMan81: Also seen on:

*The Young & The Restless (1973-present)

    *Days Of Our Lives (1965-present)

*Several TV movies made by CPT

  • That's the same Jingle for Screen Gems.

  • Yes, of course.

  • When shows originally with this logo are now rerun, it is replaced by the Sony Pictures "Shining Bars" logo.

  • This logo was used after the final Screen Gems logo ended.

  • Now I know which show I see this logo on "Hong Kong Phooey"

  • Most of the big-name studios go back to that era. 20th Century-Fox, Universal, Paramount, MGM, Warner Brothers--they all date to the '20s, some even to the '10s.

  • Dude, Columbia's been around since 1924.

  • I Like this logo, It's one of my favourites!

  • This Was Taken From Any Show. Not All Of Them.

  • That's what some people nicknamed it. Sorry.

  • This is my favourite TV logo of all!!!

  • I love the jingle, too. It's an abridged version of the Screen Gems theme from the "S from hell" days.

  • I remember seeing this logo and the same screen gems music after police woman and police story on nbc.

  • It does resemble"Greatest American Hero"."Believe It or Not",Should play in backround, not"Screen Gems"

  • It's The"Greatest American Hero"logo,well sort of.

  • This is Screen Gems Jingle Power. He was another Illuminator. He was'nt Making Peanuts. I love that Sony Pictures. What is a CPT pretzel byline? Maybe it's a Coconut.

  • On which planet does that make sense???

  • Love that jingle!!
