  • from 1:36 to 1:38 Mike and Davy have something going on between them

  • @mikilu9080

I agree! I would like to know what that inside joke was!

  • Nesmith should have hooked up with NJ hitmen to push his tunes. Southern Cal Beach Boys agentcies flexed their stuff.

"Ah, yo' Paulie.....Mikey ain't playin' the game."

  • This is an alternate version of YJMBTO, different from the one on their Headquarters LP. Many of their songs on the TV show differ from the album or single versions.

  • The Grestch guitars were featured because of a deal. I'm not complaining. That's how the Monkee Mobile Pontiac GTO was used.

  • The Monks were a rare point in modern musical history. TV, pop culture, 60's revolution.

  • The Monkees show was written to be a spoof off of the Beatles, " A Hard Days Night." Screen Gems hired a bunch of pop music writers to write music for four cute boys who wanted a job, told them we need you to clown around on camera and learn to play basic stuff on an instrument. Here Come The Monkees!

  • Great Nesmith tune and this isn't the same version as the LP.Vocally, they are awesome and Mike and Peter can play, probably alot better than most of the downer people who chastise them!! They do a great job looking the part, playing their instruments, unlike the Partridge Family!!Now THAT was campy!!(but still loved them as well)Good times, good music, good TV!!

  • @bloodythinandfast David Cassidy was a musician prior to the PF and Shirley Jones was in several Broadway musical's before The P F show.

Mickey Dolenz had done a few bits of acting before the Monkeys and Davy Jones was a horse jockey before the Monkees. Mike Nesmith was a hick from Texas and no musician. Peter Tork was the only Monkee that had any established musicial abilities. The rest were as fake as Danny Bonaduce.

  • @kitty29551 wow,...a real hard on...I was around in the sixties.I gave you some actual facts about the songwriting...Mike Nesmith is a terrific musician, but you want to call him a hick from Texas and no musician,...you've proved your ignorance...go talk at someone who will listen to absolute bullshit...

  • You have to remember....sheeze,...anyway,They wrote some very good music and had the best of the best writing for them, after all, they were hired to act&play a band that wanted to be the Beatles...what transpired was very, very BIG!! ...and still is,in the archives of pop music!!

  • larry, i totally agree. i think their campy show made them less believable as musicians. my favorite tunes are Nesmith's. still...love them all and always will

  • @stanofsteel211 You have to remember that they did not write any of their tunes, which is a big reason Nesmith won't have anything to do with reunion's or appearances today...unfortunately.

  • @kitty29551 wow,are you mis-informed Nesmith wrote "Papa Gene's Blues" and co-wrote "Sweet Young Thing" from the forst LP...Mike wrote "Mary,Mary" and co-wrote "The kind of Girl I could Love" from the 2nd LP....From the 3rd LP Nesmith wrote "You told me","You just may be the One","Sunny Girlfriend"...Peter Tork co-wrote "For Pete's Sake" and Mickey wrote "Randy Scouse Git"...I won't bother mentioning anything from the remaining LP's after that..."You have to remember."..????

  • @bloodythinandfast yeah sure...listen to Davy Jones on this video going down the list of the people that wrote their songs for them.......you probably weren't even alive in the 60's dude... "Davy Jones gets upset after being asked about retirement on live radio program!" Plug that title into utube and then tell me again how misinformed I am.

  • @kitty29551 everyone knows they had songwriters dim-bulb,Diamond,Boyce and Hart,King/Geffen even Harry Nillson....you said they did not write ANY of their tunes, which in fact, makes you spewing info that's absolute shit.Which is what you are still spewing back at me.When are you retiring?

  • I loved it when Davy cut his hair in season two<3

  • More cowbell.

  • MIKE. I love you.

  • lol peter looks like hes haing so much fun

  • I wish that people appreciated The Monkees more. Everywhere you go it's Rolling Stones, The Beatles or Pink Floyd shirts, never The Monkees=( Not fair!

  • @mcflyfreakify because people consider Beatles and Rolling Stones to be cool and the Monkees to be somewhat cheesy....but you go and order up a Monkees shirt and wear it to your hearts delight.

  • Needs a couple more maracas..

  • looks like they are having a blast here playing there own songs they wrote. good job guys!

  • OH NIMBUS!

  • Lol, the memories, I remember this in black and white : )

  • Micky's my Monkees, Obama is definitely NOT my president. Ugh.

  • @Sigillalith I agree that afro was not a good as the long straight hair So true, though Micky will always be Micky :) :D <3 (gah I love micky) for full episodes try finding DVDs to buy of 1st season (a lot of electronics stores sell them) theres one or two full first season episodes up here on YouTube and I know theyve got full ones on viddler.com if you make an account.

  • @littleblackneko1 Cool, thanks! (I love Micky, too!!! they're all amazing.) (this coming from a 15 year old girl who can't get into today's music)

  • Peter sure is getting down on that bass.

  • they look like they may have had an "herbal jazz cigarette" before filming this, lol. Best TV band, ever.

  • Mike's my Monkee, John's my Beatle, Maggs is my Tiger, Theodore is my Chipmunk, and Obama is my President!

  • Mike always stood out as a great singer songwriter. I even recognized that as a 7 year old in the '60's! When I got older I sort of disassociated myself with the Monkees as it seemed a bit uncool. Now in my fifties, on revisiting this music, I am reminded how great that music was, particularly Mike's.

  • @dundeedell1960 I grew up with the Monkees too--absolutely loved them. I was crushed when their series ended! And Mike is great!

  • I LIKE THIS SONG

  • I was born in the eighties and as a child would sneak out of bed to watch The Monkees on Nick at Night. This song is one of the top played song my iTunes!

  • I think the Monkees had the most interesting story as a band. First a media product. Then an admission as such by the band. Then a conscientious attempt a legitimacy, and finally a genuine band. It would make a great story in the right hands.

  • (conclusion)...they played ALL the instruments on that one (w/ the help of Chip Douglas (producer and former member of The Turtles) on bass:)

  • (continued)..and Yes, Mike ..tired of the "Pre-Fab Four" image they had after the first 2 studio albums (primarily done by anonymous Hollywood session men) managed to shape them up into a real band eventually..and with the release of "Headquarters" (which was released the same day as Sgt. Pepper as luck would have it !)(..and which I remember so well as a 13 year-old) they came into their own. (part two)

  • @ Colleen : your point is well taken, but not entirely true...Peter was an accomplished folk artist in the Wash DC area before he joined the band...but true.. Davy (though well established in English musicals) was (and is) a singer primarily..while Mickey (being an actor on "Circus Boy") had only recently learned the drums by the advent of The Monkees..and he certainly developed into a fantastic singer as well. (part one)

  • I love the Monkees so much! I like their individuality. Mike's the cowboy, Peter's the hippi, Davy's the englishman, and Micky's...Micky :) I do wish i could find full episodes of season one. I miss their matching outfits :) and Micky's non-afro :)

  • ALWAYS was my favorite Mike Nesmith song...

  • it be nice to watch the video without obama ads popping up-i'm not voting for the bum. so far he hasn't done any good.

  • I love the Monkees and always did! They sang great and awesome songs! The show as kind of corny but the talent was awesome! Don't put them down people they are a legend!

I love the Monkees and always did! They sang great and awesome songs! The show as kind of corny but the talent was awesome! Don't put them down people they are a legend!

  • It looks like nobody bothered to teach Davy the words until the night before the gig. Look at Peter coaching him along.

  • My heart fell off my self @ Mike. Jeezis pleasiss.

AND--and, he SMILED! Yes he did--and he almost didn't look bored or long-suffering at ALL in this one! (Though I, I like that, too...)

    SOB: MIIIIKE!,

    <3.

  • Doesn't last long enough!!!

  • Here's another song writing by the one and only mike nesmith.

  • I love Mike's hat omg

  • Mike was my first boyfriend... I was 3, LOL <3<3<3

  • this is better version than original :P

  • Past blast!!! Love it!!!

  • Great song....great group. Weren't they great looking guys?

  • @Grogster2 -too cow-eyed to answer-

    MIIIIKE!!!,

    <3.

  • Over the past 2 weeks me & my hubby have watched the series again. I grew up watching the show, and my hubby remembers seeing the shows with the 80s resurgence of the Monkees. He dedicated this song to me when we first started dating. And now almost 9 years later (almost 5 years married - YIKES!) it DOES look like he IS the one :)

  • @KickazzRedhead No, Mike is. lol,

    <3.

  • Happy Birthday Mike and Davy!

  • This song makes me cry. I do believe there is something wrong with me.

  • @beatlefan157333 nothing wrong with you, does the same to me.....love it

  • Mike - love all the songs he sings so freaking much!

Peter - i just want to hug you. you are so adorable!

also, i think it's kind of interesting how this song had to be sped up to make room for a Kellogg's commercial in the original episode

  • Mike is so hot!!! oh, btw, 3 dislikes? guess those 3 weren't the ones!!

  • One of my favorites from when I used to watch this show.

  • you really have to appreciate mikes talent . Awesome!!!!

  • Peter is bending down pretty low to sing in the mic lol. Love this song. I remember watching this in the mid 70's and loving the energy of the performance even if they are only lip syching

  • The best of Mike...thx for uploading.

  • Damn they are so cute. <3 And this song is so cute. :)

  • Well, it may be a bit fast, but this is the TV version and not the one released on record. This recording is on "Missing Links 2". It's 2 minutes long there, so it's slightly sped up on this episode for more Kellogg's commercials!

  • This is sped up from A to A# ,guess the original was too draggy for the network.

  • 1:25 with Peter...i dont know why thats my favorite part.. :P

  • @sallyg270 Agreed. :3

  • Your uploads are crystal clear. Very well done and thank you.

  • the only one who actually understands "playing" an instrument is Nesmith.

  • @MarioFanAidan Despite the fact that Tork plays a large range of intstruments and is probably the most proficient musician in the group!

  • @MarioFanAidan

Absolutely untrue. Even Mike has admitted that Peter was the only one of the Monkees who was professionally trained and truly a skilled guitarist and excellent on banjo too. Peter is also the only one of the Monkees who can actually arrange and orchestrate music, fact.

  • Yo quiero Pedro!

  • Check out Peter's sweet moves!

  • I would LOVE to have that Gretsch 12-string that Mike's playing!

  • @ErinC918 So would Nez! He's posted on FB he'd like it back.

  • The Monkees may be the most underrated group of all time. They made some GREAT music, yet no one seems to appreciate them. And Nesmith is a genius. The man pretty much invented country rock in 1963 when he stated releasing his "Michael Blessing" singles...then he was heavily involved in the team that invented MTV in 1981. Plus, his mom invented Liquid Paper!! Guess it runs in the family...

  • I agree The Monkees were awesome back then and gave the Beatles and Rolling Stones competition. They outsold both of them musically in 1967. The Monkees created and self produced some of the best music that I have ever heard. The headquarters album is only one example. Long live the Monkees True Rock Legends. I am so happy that I am able to see them again on Antenna TV. I will not watch the phony, political and superficial Rock and Roll Hall of Fame until the Monkees are inducted.

  • hey! very well known fact Peter has a 'very large tool'!!......

  • Peter has an on going illness.

  • PETER IS THE MAN!! (But I think he was hittin' the hooch before they shot this!) I wouldn't say "no" to any of them, but I would have gone home with Peter.

  • 5 star material

  • Great Song

  • I've always had a man-crush on Peter Tork...;o)

  • The best Monkees song? It just may be the one...

  • Mike's a great song writer. I like his songs because they have their own distinctive sound and atmosphere. The music and the lyrics are both great. And his voice matches the music he writes.

  • @videoinformer he's a lot like early Lennon in that sense. Not as good but as distinctive

  • <3

  • ME TOO!!

  • how can you not like this, if you're listening to the Monkees then you kinda know what to expect and this is one of theyre best..... well theyre all one of the bests to me LOL

  • I still love them!

  • any one know the best place to download this song

  • I'm 60 years old now.. I Loved this moment in time..The 60's was marvelous for me..The Monkees were a positive part of that time to me..:-)

  • Why is it so sped up? They almost sound like chipmunks. I had to go look for it somewhere else and give it a thumbsdown. Sorry.

  • @anakina1 Do you think this is the version on Headquarters sped up ?

  • @backbeat05 No,This is the original recording before The Monkees recorded it again for Headquarters,Ithink the second take is alot better than this one,Also the producers would speed up a song for the show to make a perfect fit for the video clip,The original is a little slower.

  • My fave Monkees tune.

  • why is this so sped up and high pitched...

  • @kazam741852 Uhm because its like that. dur

  • Comment removed

  • @kazam741852 I dont know why you removed your comment and Idk what you mean by studio recording. Dur

  • @TheMonkeesRock I corrected myself because I made a typo? And a studio recording is the actual version found on a CD that you can buy...I'm not sure how you didn't know that. I'm sorry if I confused you or offended you. Now with all due respect, I encourage you to continue listening to this fucking awesome band and stop picking fights with people you don't know. Peace and love<3

  • @kazam741852 LOOOOOOOL its like that on the CD.

  • @TheMonkeesRock LOOOOOOOL not on my CD, love =) I refuse to argue with you because it's not my thing. peace out, dear, and enjoy the music.

  • @kazam741852 I do enjoy it but yeah its like tha

  • why is the pitch too high? helium studio effects? lol

  • Davy's face at 1:36

  • @wafflecannonlazer Looks like he's trying to make Nesmith crack up!

  • I thought Mike never sang because in all the other videos I have watched of them he hasn't sung in any. Mike was always my favourite. Love the Monkees, miss their music terribly thanks for posting :)

  • This song makes you dance in your seat. I love it.

  • Which video or episode is when the monkees take offtheir shirts

  • @zipzip101able your friendly neighborhood kidnappers. how do i know? because its one of the greatest moments ever. ever.

  • Hey!....they all appear to be "hyped up" on some kind of controlled substance!!!!.....

  • idk if anyone noticed or its just me but in the start of 1:10 it looks like peter is giving the micraphone some head im just saying

  • @42feenix hey!....i too noticed!....Peter is simulating "head" on that microphone....whether it was intentional or not, only Peter knows for sure!!!....

  • @42feenix - so Peter's a spaz......probably why they chose him for the series. Don't believe that equates into what you're saying. C'mon, people......

  • Peter was always the one..

  • Gahd. Mike...those eyes. Haha.

  • There appears to be a certain amount of friction between Mike and Davy..

  • Awesome!!
