I can see that he takes a lot of influence from Billy Sheehan. I mean, the playing style is very similar and there are like 5 of the signature basses in the back... lol. Nice.
on certain frets there are natural harmonics 12, 5, and 3 are the easiest to find, just place your fingers on the strings right above the fret [ metal line ] and strum down it, its a natural harmonic, don't press down, just place your fingers on the strings :]
ahaha. bud, you need to kiss ur stupid picks goodbye. You'll get no where (in terms of skill) if you stick with the pick. If anything, they slow you down, play with your fingers!! And to answer your keshtonne, just pluck normally, but you don't pluck, but start plucking/slapping/popping/thumping/tapping! You'll get alot more outta your bass! TRUST ME MY FRIEND!
Lay a small portion of the knife edge of your thumb on the string, and pluck with your index finger. It'll take some time to find the "sweet spots" (areas that can be used to produce harmonics).
No, the sound he gets at 40 isn't a pinch harmonic, its an artificial harmonic. Jaco invented those in Portrait of Tracy. He's using his thumb on his left hand to make that noise while picking the harmonic.
Hahahaha, Jaco didn't invent artificial harmonics. He may have made use of them extensively, but I can bet you there were people out there using him before he wrote PoT.
hes doing pinches the same as on a guitar. pluck it with one finger and tap it with another on the way through real quick. its kinda hard without distortion though.
I'm not a bassist but I love this guy. I would love to hear this with some bass distortion a la Paul Jr.(Sepultura). That tapping stuff is awesome. Why on earth can't more bassists play like this instead of just dom-dum-dom-dum in the background?
Awesome. nice work. once again you show the world that us bassists can actually play our own instruments and you can do awesome stuff with it. nice custom presicion too.

how do u get the harmonic with ur fingers.. i can do it with a pick but thats about all
JoeyPistol 4 years ago
You "pinch" the string with your thumb and pointer while holding a note, its really hard to learn at first but it gets alot easier

BASSISTS FINGER BETTER!

i take it im not the only one who thinks a bass player using a pick is like a football player wearing a tutu
Camsauce87 3 years ago 2
but hes not using a pick.....
ubergoo 2 years ago
i dont think he used a pick in this video, it's all fingers just like Billy Sheehan
BassPlayerED 3 years ago
both techniques have their place, a pick gives a slightly more aggressive tone but fingers is a much more beneficial technique to learn

Artificial harmonics... You play the note and then make a harmonic on that string a split second afterwards...
inefficient 5 years ago
can someone explain how the sounds he gets out of his bass at 00:40 are played, i tried it many times, but I just can't figure it out.
rivalsoda 5 years ago
i tried to pluck the string with the nails of my ring finger then "pinched" it with my point finger...i tried it and it went well for me...
paybpaybsikssiks 5 years ago
Artificial harmonic via your right thumb. You'll have to play around with it to find out where the right spot is.
colonelangus 5 years ago
Sounds like a pinch harmonic but i'll be damned if I can do it either
