good video man.. i'll have to get around to this sometime... your parents having a party in the background or what? lol you didn't want any part of that? =P
thats cool thanks, but do you know that part after that, after the 2nd verse, i think its the choris, the part where its really big and the drums, hny tonk and piano come in??? i cant find it!!!
I just think it's easier to play that G note on the D string instead of playing an open G. I also think it's just faster to slide to the G. It's certainly not because it sounds wildly different, it's only because of efficiency.
i learned the song by watching a live video of elliott smith, and he plays it this fast, if not faster (the video with him in an 88 shirt). i also mentioned in the info page that it is, indeed, faster than the CD version, but in order to not waste time, i played it fast (because if you're watching a tutorial video, you're probably familiar with how the song goes).
and i don't add any "flourishes" to the song; i only slide to one note in the progression. sorry if that's considered showing off.
Great help! I was a bit scared at first with you playing the thing so fast at the start of the video, but the video really got me on the right track... Thanks a million!
cheers dude - helped alot - just startin to plat smiths stuff - both hands seem to move so fast - do you know what his easier stuff would be to learn - J :>
I thought it was appropriate that it was played fast because it was really just an example before u explained how to play it. and great work! this is the most helpful tutorial iv watched, very easy to follow.
thanks buddy! i figured everyone knows how the song goes before they try to learn how to play it, so playing it normal speed would have been a tad boring... thanks for understanding!
Ok, well, it kind of rocks back and forth from the D string to the G and B strings. So it's like strum the D string notes, and then strum the G and B string notes at the same time, then back to the D string. Hopefully that helps!
It helped but I had trouble figuring out where you were putting your fingers maybe try a higher camera angle next time. Thanks though!

typically when you make tutorials, you don't play the song faster than it's actually supposed to be and add flourishes/slides in order to show off.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
you say you're playing the song as it's played in the live video, yet you add your own slide to it?
that's weak.

that one chord isn't diminished. its a G7. cheers for the rest.

Cool, thanks man. Those accent notes were throwing me off. I just kept cheating out and playing only the fall down notes.

yeah, i have trouble playing songs incredibly fast on tape because i always think that people will get bored and watch something else...
but you're right, and i apologize for the speed.
