Volvo did kinda make 'too good cars' while they put 240- series on production, think about it, by popular demand they had to make them without any big changes for over 12 years!! That's i say wow! 240, 740 = true Volvos!!
Wow most new cars can't even do this. And this Volvo is about 10-15 years old and it can do all this in the snow where traction is low. And I doubt that they had traction control back then they might have had ABS but not sure. And most cars would need traction control to do this looks like not this Volvo 740. AMAZING!!!!!

This is amazing - you wouldn't get anything like this these days. I have a 1990 740 GL estate. It was parked in a hedge for years. New battery, some bulbs, windscreen wipers, new auxiliary fuel pump, sealed the leaking sunroof and it is as smooth and reliable as anything, and the performance is not bad at all for a base model - got to 110mph no problem
i own a 740 turbo estate, it has done 400 000 km, but it runs like a lightning! before that i had a 245, extremely strong and reliable cars, i bet that when these cars were made, they where the best, unparalelled with any other car. it`s kiruna ore all the way! feel the power of real swedish steel!

I dissagree. the 240 outlasted it's supposed successor (700series) because it continued to sell so strongly and was finally withdrawn at the start of the 800 series production.
Cheap or expensive, the 240 had bags more character and looked better with those big shoulders that we see today on the new range of Volvos such as the V70. To me, the 740 was not "much nicer".

740 only looks good as an an estate car where as the 240 saloon has real style and the 240 interior dosent drop to bits like the 740.

i actually used my 245 to pull my tractor on one occasion :)...but the towing line(guarnteed to hold 2,500 kg) broke :)
