Three years ago I posted this, and it still remains the same.
"It's just 0's and 1's. They could be carried by pixies in spandex jumpsuits, for all it matters. As soon as it reaches the source, it's still 0's and 1's".
It's up to the buyer as to whether he/she sees reason, or not.
Longer cables need to conduct more energy. FOr example, if you plug in 5 USB extenders together, the computer cant read the drive. If you plug in a flash drive with one or 2 it works fine. Wrong. Talk to someone that works on/engineers TV chip-sets and they will explain how HDMI DOES in fact make a noticeable difference in picture. HDMI "standards" mean very little. Not to mention how TIMING of digital information being received can cause drop-out, image tear, sparkling, jitter, etc. STOP believing people when they say you get the same picture and sound with HDMI. Go watch the video of a cheap and expensive cable on the sam TV side by side. Why do they look different?!
@The1andonlyBYack They don't and if you're get sparkling or jitter than they are broken period. The only real difference is the quality of the cable. And that even becomes nu;; and void. If you're paying 5-10 bucks for cables that are 6ft long then you're good. Anymore than that and you're being ripped off unless of course if they are longer cables. Go look at CNET's comparison of cheap vs expensive HDMI cables and they didn't even find any difference in picture/sound quality.
@shadowtsunami NOT true, I worked in (for well over a year) the test lab at the largest retailer in the world. We had more than one issue with jitter and sparkling on cheap cables. Voltage drops and materials used will greatly affect how the cable performs. If something is streaming BILLIONS of bytes per second consistently the properties of the cable can and will change. If the chip-set of the TV can't decipher whether or not it's a 1 or 0 many things can happen.
@The1andonlyBYack lol you misread my post bad. I agree the quality of the cable matters. However, even cables that are 5-10 bucks provide excellent quality cables, for example the Mediabridge and Shaxon brands. Both have thick cables, and even the mediabridge brand provide a full metal jacket that connects directly to the cable instead of foil. Also Again CNET and many other professionals say if the cable is like that it is broken.
Also, if the people who argue that the only feasible difference with cheaper cables, if possible, is degradation over longer length cables, then surely the same logic applies to the quality of a signal sent through a shorter cable, even if negligible. I personally feel pissed off spending 15 quid to get a cable that sends the odd sparkles through my screen when there's movement. PS3 folding home globe is a good test piece.
I own both cheap and expensive HDMI cables, and although the cheaper ones tend to resemble the quality of the expensive cables, I have found that ALL of my cheaper cables have slight sparkles (snow) and some edges to pictures can be more faint. So I guess there is a jpeg vs bmp kind of truth to it. However, I cannot speak for all cheap cables. I'm just pissed I waste money on cheap ones to get an inferior quality, especially when I buy expensive TV's
@nottinmatterz2day The cheapest ones deliver the same picture quality as the expensive ones but might not last as long, meaning the metals might rust or something.
Seen, and when comparing then to my 10$ HDMI cable I can see a difference... The 10$ cable had on average 1 error that I could see per min. This error being screen tearing (I marked down every time I saw a screen terror for 10 mins of blue ray video) played the same section of video with the Pipelines and the screen tears had seemed to vanish. Both cables were HDMI 1.3 both had gold plating however the Pipelines configuration and quality obviously made a difference in ERRORS not video Quality
Yes digital is just 0's and 1's... However there are ERRORS that can occur. This is do to poor construction and crappie materials. Erros in the digital stream of data cause in frequent to frequently occurring pictures "distortion" however these distortions can happen as little as once per day to as much as once per second. Don't spend outrageous amounts but go with going to cut down on errors. I personally use Pipeline HDMI cables. Not to expensive and best construction and performance I've...
@ChickenKrispy yes the quality of the cables matter, but even some $10 cables are made with really great quality material, Heck I even seen some Sony HDMI cables that cost about that much. My opinion is you're safe at 5 to 10 dollar cables and 20 dollars is the most you should spend for a 6ft cable. However again CNET has also found that cheap vs expensive have no differences in picture/quality nor errors. And if it is jittering and sparkling it's broken
I am a hifi enthusiast and have tested many HDMI cables in the way Salz does in his video.
The difference in audioquality between wireworld platinum starlight, wireworlds top HDMI, and an average HDMI cable is enormous. Test it between a PS3 and a reciever and you will hear it. Also, I have noticed that some HDMI cables are very good at sound but not good with picture and vice versa. For sound, my favorite HDMI cable is Wireworld
HDMI cables only have 2 speeds, standard and high. The 1.1, 1.3, etc thing is what is sent over the cable not the cable itself. And as said the "X Hz" compatible thing is BS as Blu-ray only ever sends 24Hz. Monoprice cables work great for me sending 1080p 60Hz from my PC which is more demanding than even 3D Blu-ray which sends 2 1080 frames stacked at 24Hz for only 48 frames per second not 60.
@danielthechskid However, you do have to buy hdmi cables that allow for 3D pass through. I believe that is only meant for HDMI 1.4 cables and not 1.3 and below. And you're right about the standard and high speeds. Also the only true difference is between the types. Most of us will use Type A or Type B. Difference Type A has 19 pins and Type B has 29 pins which is for resolution of 3,840×2,400 or WQUXGA mainly found in projects.
He's exactly right...buy something REASONABLY priced. I bought the cheapest hdmi cable from Home Depot and now the cable is malfunctioning with the picture zapping in and out. I went to Best Buy and tried the monster cable in comparsion to my Home depot(sorry can't remember what brand it was) and the picture was the same! Best thing is to my something that has copper and gold in it for durability.
Testing has shown that subjects who did not know which audio cables were being used could not tell the difference in sound quality between the cheapest and most expensive cables. However when they knew which cables were being used 70% of them said that the could clearly tell that the more expensive cable produced a better sound. Humans....no wonder marketing works.
@Reginaldesq yup i bought some $5 HDMI cables and no difference, even in the construction the $5 HDMI cables where constructed very well. I think they are from Shaxon industry, Plus they where 10ft long instead of the standard 6ft 0____0 lol. I laughed at the packaging it game in, It was just a simple bag that said the companies name on it. Cost saving ftw
Gold coated connectors make no difference what so ever. Think about it. The only possible performance boost is through the tiny coating. You might get a slight boost if the entire cable was gold.
I would ask "What is the difference between a HDMI v1 cable and a HDMI v1.4?"
IT'S THE QUALITY OF THE CABLE & CONNECTORS!! Along with testing procedures, ie a cable can pass as a v1.0 cable but NOT a v1.4, THERE is your cheap cable!! It CANNOT transmit signals fast enough leading to losses in Picture and/or sound quality (But only if YOU can see the quality you are missing in the first place.
Just like MP3 is a lossy format but still 'digital' it does NOT sound as good. But can you notice?
there is no matter if you have a 240hz 480hz or 120hz HDTV, The bluray only send 24hz you DONT need a expensive cable! the tv converts the 24p to 120 or 240 or 480 or even 600hz
You preach way too much about a cheap cable, and say nothing about a more expensive product. What products do you consider expensive? There are MANY our rhere, Ultra-Link, BlueJean, Daveco, Provo, Liberty? Be specific, and let people know how you tested the cables to get a result you are providing.....
This is true Directv techs said not to buy high speed cables they are a rip off you get no better signal with high dollar cables SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY THE CHEAPO BRANDS
@ThomManders aren't u confusing it with display refresh rate?there are some differences between hdmi revisions, such as max resolution, color bit depth,3d stereoscopic support, ethernet transmission etc
any digital cable will be pretty much the same. i myself use monster cables for my guitar, but thats because a 40$ analog, shielded cable is worth it to me. digital cables, not at all.
i got a sony hdmi cord for $30 and the other sony hdmi cord was $60. the difference between the two was that the more expensive one was made with cheaper material and thinner...
People who spend thousands of dollars on 1 HDMI Cable is getting suckered and played by these companies wanting to make money off people in this recession anyone who pays $1,089.99 for an HDMI cable needs to be strangled to death
@DABS139 I know I saw that you actually can buy a macbook with that price or anything else at best but for that matter maybe 10 items at best buy for that price
there are 2 types of people, those who want something for nothing and use science for answers, but never mention what gear they use. and then there are those who DO see and hear a difference between cables with good gear, science works both ways with this argument, but science cannot tell a person that their eyes and ears are lying, if people WANT a difference, than some people DONT want a differnce
@lopezray05 Just search the output tests, I've seen the videos of the signals on a scope for a 3m cable $3 vs $100 and the signal is exactly the same. EXACTLY. It can generate no difference in sound, science only works one way in the digital realm. 1 or 0. Neither. BUZZER.
I USE A SET OF JUMPER CABLES FROM AUTO-ZONE ON MY GUITAR - A BIT HARD TO SOLDER THE 1/4 PLUGS ON THE END, BUT DAMN, WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN TONE! ALSO A BIT HEAVY TO DRAG ABOUT, BUT HEY, WE ARE TONE MONSTERS, CORRECT? STAY TUNE TO HEAR HOW I PLACE MY TUBE AMP IN LIQUID NITROGEN SO IT WILL NOT OVER-HEAT! SHRED ON THERE AXE GRINDS AND MAY THE SHINE SIDE OF YOUR FRETS ALWAYS BE TUNED TO A-440+A FLATTED 5TH!
Asda saver hdmi cable £1.99 monster orange £199.99 Asda won in performance due to nice long cable! you can even get these things from 99p shop and they still win!
I just would like to know previously i can use my Dell Studio notebook to my SyncMaster 940MG....i believed my 2year old nephew reconfigure the set-up of my Samsung TV, can you help me to set it up again?
By the way, everytime i click the source in the remote control for my monitor - monitor shows on the first box upper leftside Ext. and on the 2nd box shows No Signal, please help me to set up.
I cant believe people would actually spend over $100 for an hdmi cable. I just use the hdmi cables that Time Warner Cable provides you with during installation, even though my friend works for Audioquest and can hook me up with a deep discount on most of their products except on the really high end cables that can run over $1000/ft. Talking about it, I think ill go get me the Carbon Hdmi from them.
So true, 3DGameMan. People find it hard to believe, but it true. If it,s well built, there is no difference. 60, 120 or 240 refresh rate? All the same. The mark up on the HDMI cables you see at the store range from huge to unbelievably huge. Save your money.
hi guys, beware the really cheap ones. the contacts are prones to dislodge.
bent pins/tracks. dry joint on pads. All these contribute to sync problems and can be very frustrating thinking something wrong with your equipment.
Also please dont buy thoses big Anacondas of HDMI cables where the cables are as wide and thick and heavy as a porno dude's penis. They will cause you a lot of headache when they destroy the sockets on your equipment. peace
I call B.S., you spend more to get a higher Gigs per sec speed. Better cables also have less data lose but people who have to ask wont notice anyhow. However it's not all B.S. construction and brand name do play a large part. But you don't get to sell expensive by making a bad product so...
the ones im talking of is Audioquest the best 600hz silver will cost major bucks but it lets you take full advantage of plasma. Now if you dont have plasma the best way is to go cheap. This audioquest is 100% silver conductor. Thats the best for plasma tvs and they cost 1k plus. If you read on the box of a cheap one some are even 100 bucks and i agree with this guy on them but they only support 240hz and 10.5 gig or mb.
No a expensive one supports 600hz, you can use a cheap hdmi on nicer tvs but you wont take full advantage of the 600hz it can push. Also theres 20 mb or gig on the more expensive ones and silver is proven to be a better signal then gold thats what i was told anyhow. The 20 on the ones that support 600hz is different then the 240hz cables you buy from walmart sony brand cause they do 10.5 or something of that number. Either way a more expensive hdmi has its features to.
Can your hdmi support 600hz doubtful, thats what you pay more for in hdmi cables. Also some metal such as silver has a cleaner signal then other metals. I may of got ripped off considering i dont need 600hz strength for my hdtv but i got a hdmi cable that supports 600hz and 20mb or gig something. The sony hdmis in walmart only support 240hz which is plenty for me, and 10gig or mb whatever that is flow i dont know i forgot i read it though online.

okay so i have a ps3 and it had lines going horizontaly up the screen i thought it was the ps3 as it didnt happen on the regular tv channels. i have it ready to mail in when i hooked up my 360 an see the same lines
i am guessing this has to do with the hdmi cord ? please get bak to me asapasap asap so i might not have to send my ps3 in
I personally would only get an expensive HDMI cable if it's going to be longer than 4m. My PS3, PC, Xbox 360, Blu-ray player and Sky HD box all use 1.5m cables (approx 5ft).... I use "Cablesson Ivuna" HDMI cables which are very well built (excellent quality) and cost about £10 for a 1.5m cable ;)
i got mine off amazon, only £2,49 and £1 postage so thts about $4.10 overall not too bad as pc world rippin noobs off for £20 pisses me off because people think pcworld will hav best deals because they don't kno too much about pc's so they trust the big companys and they get ripped off so bad
Thanks for that that video, now i can shut up my friend for buying a $100 brand name and she thinks its better then the one i bought, i bought a $20 generic hdmi certified hdmi cable its really good and it comes with lots of features!!!!!
well said don't waste your money on snake oil scams just don't be too cheap as you want the cable to last and not fall apart around £15 - £20 for say a 3M shoud do you fine :)
i have a ps3 and it is hooked to my tv via hdmi problem im having is that i would like to do videos on youtube about my ps3 games the only this is that i have a video card for my hp laptop and it only has rca and svideo on it now i can change the video output settings on the ps3 to display though rca but then i have to do this everytime i want to record gameplay is there a way to convert hdmi to the 3 rcas know it wont be in hd it will just save me alot of time thanks webjr77@frontier.com
the very slight diffences between monster cables & inexpensive are not visible to the typical eye, but tech geeks like me can see the very tiny difference in quality, i love how my $70 monster cables look on my 120hz samsung LEDtv & on my 240hz LG LEDtv, & so does my company when they come over lol they always ask me how do i get my picture soo clear & life like :] but if u cant see a difference then save ur money ppl, its all up to how YOUR eye sees it, no one else opinion should matter :D
It's a plain MYTH!!! please people don't let MONSTER take your money away.
I have a 3 euro hdmi cable which is a hdmi 1.4 cable with golden connectors and compared it with a 15 euro cable which also has golden connectors. The main differences is that the 3 euro cable is hdmi 1.4 the 15 euro cable is i guess hdmi 1.3 and i SWEAR there is no difference between them in picture quality...just as they say buy a fairly priced hdmi cable no need to pay a 150 dollars for a MONSTER hdmi cable...
Load off rubbish!!!!!!! he is talking about the theory and mechanics behind cables but he did not talk about interferance etc. I purchased a Chord Signature digital cable agaist a cheep cable and it is not about 1's and Zeros.
Though if your equipment is not high end he would be right but expensive cables are targetted at expensive gear.
I tested a cheap comcast hdmi cable that came with the HD box, and an audioquest Forrest. Same content, same scene. Huge difference... the comcast cable is not in use anymore. Colors were bad on that one, black levels washed out and even the sharpnes was worse than on the Forrest. Trust me, cheap cables and brand name cables are not the same... especially not on 1080p content. It is digital, but everything is digital nowadays and still quality differences. Test it for yourself and you'll see.
@PlanetDip He's just being a smartass talking about binary 1's and 0's you know, like he knows shit about it. "Either it works or NOOOOT" is what he said, what a dickhead..
@ImmortalUniverse I updated my graphics card but when i try to run at 1920x1080 it looks really bad so i have to set it to 1600x1200 and it looks good. When do you think that is? Is there a difference from those two resolutions? I have a gtx 480 graphics card. And a 27 inch samsung lcd/hd monitor
I've seen demos that show that cheap cables perform badly. It's a digital signal in a analog copper cable. If you pump to much info in a cheap cable it will fail as it has been proven.
@denosplace1976 HDMI 1.4 cables are only meant to support 1920 x 1080 (progressive scan), when they need to send more information through a new HDMI cable will be released, most likely with a new interface.
Okay, but even though gold plated HDMI cables are slightly more expensive(or at least were),gold plated cables are the way to go.They perform far better because the signal is consistent
both of you are correct - gold is extremely conductive as well as resistant to oxidation and corrosion. in digital signals, you don't really benefit from having gold unless you want an extremely long cord, which will cost you a bundle. anyways, with less electrical resistance, the signal would therefore be more consistent. having a gold wire on a non-gold system won't improve anything, but it will prevent quality from worsening.
@schmidtbag For gold to be of any benefit to signal transfer, every single IC, PCB, solder, connector, cable, terminal, throughout all devices that are connected to one another, would have to have the same gold included in each and every device.
Plating terminals with gold will never improve or increase the quality of a digital/electrical signal regardless of cable length or distance between devices.
@dtsmucker no see you're missing our point, i'm not saying it IMPROVES anything. what i'm saying is it *prevents* the signal from *degrading*. you're absolutely correct - using gold will not positively benefit the signal if the components are made of a lesser purity/conductivity material, but, gold will however prevent the signal from diminishing as quickly as say iron would. on hdmi, this really makes no difference since the signals are digital and the cables don't span far enough to weaken.
This whole "it works or it doesn't" mentality bothers me. What do you mean by that? Either you get a picture or you don't? If there is any signal detected in the line, it will be interpreted as either a zero or a one, those are the only options. However, all this guarantees is some semblance of color on the screen. A high quality picture is achieved when every single bit of data is interpreted CORRECTLY as the zero or one it was intended to be. Get a Sony XBR and try using a $10 versus a $100.
@dmbelafan Theres no difference in picture quality friend. It looks the same. Ive proven this on not just an XBR but on different resolutions as well 720p 1080p.
@cyphenice Must be just different eyes then. I got a couple cheaper cables and one "high speed" cable (Blue Jeans, not Monster...I agree that's just dumb), fully expecting I would return or resell the expensive one, based on the mixed reviews I had seen online. When I plugged in the higher end cable, however, a definite color difference was apparent, most noticeably when using the Blu-ray player. Personally I felt the high-end cable was more accurate. I guess people see things differently.
@3DGAMEMAN I got a question. My PC is hooked up to my 46" LCD. My pc has two DVI ports coming from my PC's Geforce 8800 GT (hdcp compatible) going into my LCD via a DVI to VGA(RGB) converter cable and a VGA(RGB) cable hooked into my LCD (with a seperate connection for audio). Is my DVI/VGA(RGB) hookup as good as a DVI/HDMI converter cable? Am I still getting the full 1080p HDTV experience? when I watch 720 and 1080p vids they look crystal clear and my games too running 1080p but I wanna be sure
@GuysSeriously Thats correct. Marketing is whats going on here. How do we target gamers? Slap this statement on the box and watch our sales go up in this category.
I have to compleetly disagree with the whole its a digital signal, because the simple fact is the cheaper cable will be made from cheaper copper and even though its a digital signal it is traveling through an analouge medium (copper) and is still subject to physics i.e. resistance signal degredation and so forth. As far as proof I have personaly seen and heard the difference in signal quality a more expensive HDMI cable makes compared to a cheap one. Obviously not in all cases but the majority.
@gam3rguy45 The physical requirements to achieve the max HDMI 1.4 spec are very easy to meet (especially with typical 1-3m cables). Not to mention the fact that typical 1080p video does not come close to the max bandwidth spec of HDMI 1.4. Also keeping in mind that HDMI includes digital error correction. There is less bandwidth in the sata connention between you Bluray drive and the motherboard (look at the cable size too). And you honestly believe a cheap HDMI cable is a quality bottleneck! pff
You should mention cat1 and cat2, which are merely specifications for the dimension of the copper inside the cable. Also, goldplating is only used because copper oxidates easier. If you really wanted a good cable, it should contain silver, but thats pretty expensive, not that it would make any difference in hdmi-transmission. Also, pete4765, there is a bit error ratio, but if you have thick enough cable, (i.e cat2) brand doesn't matter. The picture itself doesn't improve.
Hey Thanks! I was over at a store and they tried to charge me $100 for a 30 foot hdmi to hdmi cable. I went home and found a 30 Foot Gold HDMI Male/Male Digital Audio/Video HDTV/Home Theater Cable on amazon.com for $13. Im going to hook it up from my computer and run it to our tv. Im really hoping this well work!
This guy knows what he is talking about. Thank god.
There are so many morons out there spreading disinformation. And they're not doing it because they are in the GREAT HDMI CABLE SCAM (well, some of them might be), they are doing it out of complete ignorance and they are repeaters. They repeat what others have told them as if it is fact. I really think trading standards should get involved with this, because paying $100 for HDMI cable is basically a joke.
this dude have no idea of what the fuck he is talking about. 1 and 0 is bull shit he does not know what the fuck 1 and 0 mean. buy a 3d tv and use those cheap 10 dollars cables and see how far you go with it
Some Kangaroo Australian Salesman Idiot from JB HiFi Osborne Park WA Australia tried to sell me a HDMI cable for $500 as compared to a $20 one I could get from somewhere else.
Do not buy anything from JB HiFi they will try to rip you off if they see a woman in the shop.

ChickenKrispy 2 months ago
@ChickenKrispy yes the quality of the cables matter, but even some $10 cables are made with really great quality material, Heck I even seen some Sony HDMI cables that cost about that much. My opinion is you're safe at 5 to 10 dollar cables and 20 dollars is the most you should spend for a 6ft cable. However again CNET has also found that cheap vs expensive have no differences in picture/quality nor errors. And if it is jittering and sparkling it's broken

platinum starlight, and for picture it is Monster M2000.
Therefore I use platinum starlights between player and reciever, and monster m2000 between reciever and tv.

Monoprice cables work great for me sending 1080p 60Hz from my PC which is more demanding than even 3D Blu-ray which sends 2 1080 frames stacked at 24Hz for only 48 frames per second not 60.
danielthechskid 2 months ago

Best thing is to my something that has copper and gold in it for durability.

but what about different versions of hdmi, like 1.0,1.3,1.4, etc....
williebeaty 3 months ago
Testing has shown that subjects who did not know which audio cables were being used could not tell the difference in sound quality between the cheapest and most expensive cables. However when they knew which cables were being used 70% of them said that the could clearly tell that the more expensive cable produced a better sound. Humans....no wonder marketing works.
Reginaldesq 4 months ago 20
@Reginaldesq yup i bought some $5 HDMI cables and no difference, even in the construction the $5 HDMI cables where constructed very well. I think they are from Shaxon industry, Plus they where 10ft long instead of the standard 6ft 0____0 lol. I laughed at the packaging it game in, It was just a simple bag that said the companies name on it. Cost saving ftw
shadowtsunami 2 weeks ago
Gold coated connectors make no difference what so ever. Think about it. The only possible performance boost is through the tiny coating. You might get a slight boost if the entire cable was gold.
Reginaldesq 4 months ago
A cheap cable may do for YOU as you do not have the equipment to transmit/decode a HD signal!
Okay lets try and put this simply:
Firstly the common misconception is that 'a wire is a wire'
(copper) wire comes in various grades complete with impurities leading to higher resistance amongst other things.
In the case of digital signals the purity of the wire will reflect how FAST (How much in a given second) we can transmit signals.
MrSiaynoq 4 months ago
MrSiaynoq 4 months ago
Best way to judge it is to go with the rule of spending 10% of whatever unit your connecting on the associated cabling
Would seem stupid to buy a £700 blu-ray and then spend £5 on a cable. Like putting steel rims on a Lamborghini.
antcox2006 4 months ago
there is no matter if you have a 240hz 480hz or 120hz HDTV, The bluray only send 24hz you DONT need a expensive cable! the tv converts the 24p to 120 or 240 or 480 or even 600hz

lopezray05 8 months ago
@lopezray05 Just search the output tests, I've seen the videos of the signals on a scope for a 3m cable $3 vs $100 and the signal is exactly the same. EXACTLY. It can generate no difference in sound, science only works one way in the digital realm. 1 or 0. Neither. BUZZER.

I just use the hdmi cables that Time Warner Cable provides you with during installation, even though my friend works for Audioquest and can hook me up with a deep discount on most of their products except on the really high end cables that can run over $1000/ft. bent pins/tracks. dry joint on pads. All these contribute to sync problems and can be very frustrating thinking something wrong with your equipment.

the ones im talking of is Audioquest the best 600hz silver will cost major bucks but it lets you take full advantage of plasma.
Dkids187 10 months ago
No a expensive one supports 600hz, you can use a cheap hdmi on nicer tvs but you wont take full advantage of the 600hz it can push. Also theres 20 mb or gig on the more expensive ones and silver is proven to be a better signal then gold thats what i was told anyhow. The 20 on the ones that support 600hz is different then the 240hz cables you buy from walmart sony brand cause they do 10.5 or something of that number. Either way a more expensive hdmi has its features to.

Colors were bad on that one, black levels washed out and even the sharpnes was worse than on the Forrest. HDMI version 1.0-1-2a is good enough for 1920 x 1200p60 lcd monitors .
ImmortalUniverse 1 year ago
NO
a cheaper HDMI cable is usually thinner and has less shielding and quality.
so a thinner cable can get signal distortion from magnetic fields from closby power cables
cheaper HDMI cable can also mean a different version HDMI.
version HDMI 1.0 - 1.2a are for resolutions upto 1929 x1200p 60 (standard LCD / LED monitor)
version HDMI 1.3 max resolutiona at single link 24-bit 2560 x 1600p 75
version HDMI 1.4 would be for theater resolutions (at single link 24 -bit 4096 x 2160 p24

i am currently using hdmi to vga adapter would i get better performance if i used the mini hdmi to hdmi? answer fast!
points2shopPROOF 1 year ago
@points2shopPROOF without a doubt you will get better signal and sharper images .
because you can put your screen resolution higher with HDMI.
with VGA you cannot .
you can also use DVI TO HDMI . both have the same quality video signal.
but DVI only is video output,
and HDMI is audio and video.
ImmortalUniverse 1 year ago
@points2shopPROOF make sure you update your grafics driver to the latest version .
to make sure the HDMI output is working .
also go to the menu of you screen /grafics card, and set the new screen resolution you like .
goz after you plug in the HDMI it might be the wrong screen format you see the first time.
so check the resolution

points2shopPROOF 1 year ago
@points2shopPROOF
because your screen has a different format.
your runnng higher then 1080p
your running at .... x 1200
so i guess you shouldnt complain:)
lol
ImmortalUniverse 1 year ago
@points2shopPROOF its because some screens are wider then others
old tv's used to be lettebox format
nowdays you got wide screen tv's and they are different in wide
your screen probably has a 1600 x 1200 resolution at 1080p
because the desktop looks normal on 1600 x 1200.
but you have already set the HDMI signal on 1080p ,so thats perfect
normally the ingame resolution is the same as the desktop resolution.
but if things look to wide or to slim you might try another resolution.

denosplace1976 1 year ago
@denosplace1976 HDMI 1.4 cables are only meant to support 1920 x 1080 (progressive scan), when they need to send more information through a new HDMI cable will be released, most likely with a new interface.

MrSpore15 1 year ago
Okay, but even though gold plated HDMI cables are slightly more expensive(or at least were),gold plated cables are the way to go.They perform far better because the signal is consistent
JAREDMICHALLE 1 year ago
@JAREDMICHALLE The gold plating has nothing to do with signal transfer. The gold plating is there to resist corrosion.
Quote "They perform far better because the signal is consistent" unquote!!
Wrong..The signal remains the same regardless of gold plating.
I've said this before, I'll say it again.
Gold will only benefit a system IF all the devices were made of the same quality gold. Thats ICs, PCBs. In all the devices you own..
Gold terminals are such because they resist corrosion, end of.
dtsmucker 1 year ago
@dtsmucker
both of you are correct - gold is extremely conductive as well as resistant to oxidation and corrosion. in digital signals, you don't really benefit from having gold unless you want an extremely long cord, which will cost you a bundle. anyways, with less electrical resistance, the signal would therefore be more consistent. having a gold wire on a non-gold system won't improve anything, but it will prevent quality from worsening.
schmidtbag 1 year ago
@schmidtbag For gold to be of any benefit to signal transfer, every single IC, PCB, solder, connector, cable, terminal, throughout all devices that are connected to one another, would have to have the same gold included in each and every device.
Plating terminals with gold will never improve or increase the quality of a digital/electrical signal regardless of cable length or distance between devices.
dtsmucker 1 year ago
@dtsmucker Long cable runs are susceptible to dropout, we all know that. But gold this or that has nothing to do with it.. It's marketing bullshit.
The physics, maths and science + common sense speaks volumes.
Chord Co,VDH,IXOS,QED,Gale,Profigold,TCI,Kimber,Ecosse to name a few.
The funny thing is Monster has a massive fanbase... Why?
Possibly the same reason Las Vegas has so many visitors.. Fancy colours and bright lights...
dtsmucker 1 year ago
@dtsmucker no see you're missing our point, i'm not saying it IMPROVES anything. what i'm saying is it *prevents* the signal from *degrading*. you're absolutely correct - using gold will not positively benefit the signal if the components are made of a lesser purity/conductivity material, but, gold will however prevent the signal from diminishing as quickly as say iron would. on hdmi, this really makes no difference since the signals are digital and the cables don't span far enough to weaken.
schmidtbag 1 year ago
This whole "it works or it doesn't" mentality bothers me. What do you mean by that? Either you get a picture or you don't? If there is any signal detected in the line, it will be interpreted as either a zero or a one, those are the only options. However, all this guarantees is some semblance of color on the screen. A high quality picture is achieved when every single bit of data is interpreted CORRECTLY as the zero or one it was intended to be. Get a Sony XBR and try using a $10 versus a $100.
dmbelafan 1 year ago
@dmbelafan Theres no difference in picture quality friend. It looks the same. Ive proven this on not just an XBR but on different resolutions as well 720p 1080p.
cyphenice 1 year ago

This has been bothering me for ages..
there are HDMI cables that are labelled as saying 360 compatible or PS3 compatible but they're the same thing..
Then you get your universal HDMI cables and people ask if it works for their 360 or PS3!
They're all the fucking same!

@GuysSeriously Thats correct. Marketing is whats going on here. How do we target gamers? Slap this statement on the box and watch our sales go up in this category.

The first HDMI cord I got was very expensive. Now I can get them at the Dollar store in town.

I really think trading standards should get involved with this, because paying $100 for HDMI cable is basically a joke.

thanks so much for this review.
