I remember listening to the radio at like 2 am and all of a sudden this came on and terrified me because I get thunderstorms here all the time but NEVER get an EAS warning.
Some Comcast stations must regulate the way they want to do this....I'm in Lycoming county and there is a severe thunderstorm warning right at my backdoor at the moment and my Comcast isn't doing anything. Makes me wonder how it works sometimes.
I got one of these an hour ago, except instead of a weather report, it was that a 19 month girl was kidnapped. And the robotic voice instead was an actual police radio report.
We get alot of those warings in december here in Seattle washington like flood warings test warnings wind warnings and snow warings the worst of all is that they appear in randoms times and scare the s*** out of you
EAS is an FCC required system. How it manifests, however, varies on your cable/satellite provider and also over-the-air broadcast stations are required to broadcast EAS. It also varies state by state as to what warnings are broadcast via EAS. The required weekly, monthly, and national periodic tests are to be broadcast on all channels and unavoidable. This also applies to the two federal level activations: Emergency Action Notification and Emergency Action Termination, used for nukes.
@y512516 Actually, the EAS broadcast makes you watch this channel. You can't switch the channel after this. I had a direct cable feed from the digital cable box to my TV tuner, so what it saw, I did too.
@EASvideocreator This is the real thing. I would never overdub a video because frankly, it looks like a poser to do so. All of the EAS bulletins, WeatherSTAR Junior videos, etc. (except the WS4000 emulators) are all authentic and in their original sound pieces.
@redoctober90 Okay. The reason I asked is because this station uses the same EAS voice that I use in my videos. It sounds a little different, but it's almost definately the same voice.
i got my digi cable back this year. there isnt a clock or any kind of thing on the front, just a few lights. we will see how this acts in a few weeks when shit starts hitting the natural fan. :)
I'm creating a pi day memorial for algebra class and I wanted to know if I could use the first ~10 seconds as, like, a blooper. I'll send you the finished product.
Sadly, the video didn't post as a video response. But search 'pi day memorial' and, last time I checked, it was at the top of the page. But who knows now?
when me, my brother, my dad, went to selma there was flash of lighting, then we went to the laundry over there, we were about to leave, there was a tv, and then a sever thunderstorm came on.
Wow, ours never did that. i live in lycoming county and had digital cable last year. ours would just run a scroll on any of the channels. i remember back whne i was about thirteen though, --cant type numbers on keyboard anymore-- it would run a scroll and say "please tune to channel NINETEEN." creepy as hell when this goes off late at night.
lol it works now. i bought a spare keyboard just in case it decides to act up again. i was using the on screen keyboard most of the time anyways but thanks :-)
God i hate living in brackenridge and hearing this shit go off. you can have your Tv one like volume 2 out of 170 and still hear it up stairs. even if surround sound is off.
@johnnyshroom221 yeah i'm almost 13 mand i'm still scared of them it gives me nightmares i can't even sleep at night i always feel like it's the end of the world when it appears
I meant like this. The EAS usually redirects me to channel 11, and it interrupts all of the channels to tell me to tune to channel 11. However, on my flat screen, the EAS doesn't interrupt all of the channels-it only interrupts channel 11 and says to tune to channel 11. All of the other channels don't get interrupted like they would on my other tv's.
It's confusing and weird at the same time. I'm not sure why my other channels don't get interrupted.
That's because you don't have a digital cable box on your flat-screen TV. Your cable company can tell the box to interrupt all channels automatically (the same thing happens when you have a pay-per-view movie; it commands it to change the channel and let you watch). Analog cable connections don't have that capability so it won't interrupt your watching.
Whenever I get one of these, before it speaks of the warning, a voice comes up, in a different tone, saying, "PLEASE STAND BY...STATION KC85 WILL BE UP SHORTLY.....The national weather service-".
I never get the EAS for Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. I only get it for Tornado Warnings, Child Abduction Emergencies, Flash Flood Warnings, and I've even seen my EAS for a Blizzard Warning!
I hate when this crap comes on! I just got done transfering a movie from my dvr box to dvd-r disc and then I was transfering a second movie from the dvr box to dvd-r disc, the movie was almost over when this testing crap came on and ruined it all! I had to pop in a new disc and start all over again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO THANKS TO THIS EAS CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I won't get to sleep till it's all over a second time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the last couple of days here in Tennessee, we've had 5 instances where EAS broke into programming with only Tornado Warnings, it never breaks into shows with Severe Thunderstorm Warnings
I was sleeping last night and at around 1:30am this retarded bullshit came up on tv and woke me up they test it too much here in florida Icant tell when its real or not
I also don't think it's necessary to have it done 3 times in one hour for just a damn test! And we happen to have to voice of doom announcing that it was only a test...Seriously? Can't they have a less scary as crap voice? I don't know what's scarier...The beeps or the voice!
The voice is different. In oregon, they use a live streaming voice from the national weather service when the EAS occurs. It sounds like where you live they use a synthesized voice.

EAS tests scare the CRAP out of me. I was half-asleep watching TV in the middle of the night (apparently this has happened to other people lol?) and one of these came on, now I'm afraid to keep the TV on at night again. It gives me the chills.
It happened once on Pittsburgh's FOX station. I had the World Series on late one night and I was just dozing off when *SCREECH* it blared through. It was only an AMBER Alert. :(
I like to sleep with the radio on, and an EAS alert popped up while I was dozing, even though ist was only an Amber Alert, it still scared the shit outta me.
I usually sleep with the tv on, and a few days ago, I woke up to a stupid EAS alert at 4AM...It always has, and always will, scare the ever loving piss out of me!
There is a REALLY big debate over the EAS on wikipedia. Someone tried to remove the link to this page from the EAS article. I think a Moderator stopped it, because it's still there.
I don't know why there would be any debate, unless Comcast copyrights their EAS system. (I didn't put the link on Wiki in the first place, so I don't mind.)
One thing I miss about being up here at PSU - no EAS broadcaster in the dorms. I could sleep through a freaking tornado if it wasn't for my Weatheradio (see my WS Jr. videos for why I say that!)
By the way, I pride myself in only authentic EAS broadcasts and WeatherSTAR Junior forecasts. No emulators or cookiecutter fakes, ladies and gentlemen. BUY GENUINE! *waves American flag*
In the Chicago area Comcast does the same. Only the people living in the counties affected have their cable disrupted by the exact same thing above. My understanding is that it comes directly from NWS as soon as they activate the EAS to the weather alert radios. I know it'sa disruptive to TV programing, but it is for everyone's safety...
i have comcast cable at my place. i have had a TON of severe thunderstorm warnings over the summer, but I have only seen an EAS screen once so far. isn't that weird?
They've cut back on a lot of these because they were a bit too frequent, especially for summertime in western PA. It sort of dilutes the importance when EAS says "Duck and Cover" twice a week. They still display it for tornado and flash flood warnings, though.
(Contrawise, my Evansville/Henderson tapes are a bit more sensitive to the weather, but that's because severe weather is MUCH MUCH MUCH more overstressed there because of a "recent history". But that's for another thread. :)
Heh... guess I AM all the comments on this page. only me and a couple of other people are actually commenting. I don't have DVR (don't wanna give Comcrap any more money than I need to). Did anyone actually catch that test from Thursday morning?
Next RMT for Pennsylvania is this Thursday at a quarter to one in the morning. Anyone in the state looking to capture a real EAS Test (not like the stuff you see from Sniklson2000) should try to record some programming between 12:00 and 1:15. should catch it then.
Este é um teste da Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte sistema de aconselhamento militar, ativado, para garantir que há bom aviso, em caso de um nuclear / biológico atentado terrorista. Este é apenas um teste.
translation:
This is a test of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization military advisory system, activated to ensure there is proper warning in the event of a nuclear/biological terrorist attack. This is only a test.

By the way, I pride myself in only authentic EAS broadcasts and WeatherSTAR Junior forecasts. No emulators or cookiecutter fakes, ladies and gentlemen. BUY GENUINE! *waves American flag*

Hey, that's NWS Paul doing the announcing!
These things drive me nuts
I'll be watching The Young and the Restless or a nice little Golden Girls rerun or something, and:
ERT! ERT! ERT! BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

Saw one during a summer thunderstorm.
EVERY 5 MINUTES.

i have comcast cable at my place. i have had a TON of severe thunderstorm warnings over the summer, but I have only seen an EAS screen once so far. isn't that weird?

Geno2733 3 years ago
I saw it, but it doesn't record on DVR. I wish it did. Oh well.

Next RMT for Pennsylvania is this Thursday at a quarter to one in the morning. Anyone in the state looking to capture a real EAS Test (not like the stuff you see from Sniklson2000) should try to record some programming between 12:00 and 1:15. should catch it then.

Hmmm...might be worth hunting for (although usually they're kind of short, if I recall correctly.)
redoctober90 3 years ago
Wow. I didn't think you checked this page for comments anymore, as it's been up for the longest time now. lol

Oh, mah dear Geno, you ARE all the comments on this page. ;)

ahh in portugal it will say:
Este é um teste da Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte sistema de aconselhamento militar, ativado, para garantir que há bom aviso, em caso de um nuclear / biológico atentado terrorista. Este é apenas um teste.
translation:
This is a test of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization military advisory system, activated to ensure there is proper warning in the event of a nuclear/biological terrorist attack. This is only a test.
very scary and its illegal 2 tape it.

Do you have DVR or interactive channels? If so, does it even happen on these channels?
