  • You're lucky as shit. For some reason, when the Comcast EAS goes off in Oswego IL, it's VERY low quality, you can barely read the county names.

  • Some Comcast stations must regulate the way they want to do this....I'm in Lycoming county and there is a severe thunderstorm warning right at my backdoor at the moment and my Comcast isn't doing anything. Makes me wonder how it works sometimes.

  • I got one of these an hour ago, except instead of a weather report, it was that a 19 month girl was kidnapped. And the robotic voice instead was an actual police radio report.

  • i got QVC, It's channel 23 in My INSIGHT cable box.

  • We get alot of those warings in december here in Seattle washington like flood warings test warnings wind warnings and snow warings the worst of all is that they appear in randoms times and scare the s*** out of you

It also varies state by state as to what warnings are broadcast via EAS. The required weekly, monthly, and national periodic tests are to be broadcast on all channels and unavoidable. This also applies to the two federal level activations: Emergency Action Notification and Emergency Action Termination, used for nukes.

  • @y512516 Actually, the EAS broadcast makes you watch this channel. You can't switch the channel after this. I had a direct cable feed from the digital cable box to my TV tuner, so what it saw, I did too.

  • @EASvideocreator This is the real thing. I would never overdub a video because frankly, it looks like a poser to do so. All of the EAS bulletins, WeatherSTAR Junior videos, etc. (except the WS4000 emulators) are all authentic and in their original sound pieces.

  • @redoctober90 Okay. The reason I asked is because this station uses the same EAS voice that I use in my videos. It sounds a little different, but it's almost definately the same voice.

  • i got my digi cable back this year. there isnt a clock or any kind of thing on the front, just a few lights. we will see how this acts in a few weeks when shit starts hitting the natural fan. :)

  • Wow, ours never did that. i live in lycoming county and had digital cable last year. ours would just run a scroll on any of the channels. i remember back whne i was about thirteen though, --cant type numbers on keyboard anymore-- it would run a scroll and say "please tune to channel NINETEEN." creepy as hell when this goes off late at night.

  • I meant like this. The EAS usually redirects me to channel 11, and it interrupts all of the channels to tell me to tune to channel 11. However, on my flat screen, the EAS doesn't interrupt all of the channels-it only interrupts channel 11 and says to tune to channel 11. All of the other channels don't get interrupted like they would on my other tv's.

    It's confusing and weird at the same time. I'm not sure why my other channels don't get interrupted.

  • That's because you don't have a digital cable box on your flat-screen TV. Your cable company can tell the box to interrupt all channels automatically (the same thing happens when you have a pay-per-view movie; it commands it to change the channel and let you watch). Analog cable connections don't have that capability so it won't interrupt your watching.

  • For some reason, on my flat screen, the EAS doesn't interrupt ALL of the channels-only the one it usually redirects you to. Weird, isn't it?

  • If you are on analog cable, it doesn't switch the channel automatically. Only digital cable boxes will automatically switch the channel.

  • I never get the EAS for Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. I only get it for Tornado Warnings, Child Abduction Emergencies, Flash Flood Warnings, and I've even seen my EAS for a Blizzard Warning!

I just got done transfering a movie from my dvr box to dvd-r disc and then I was transfering a second movie from the dvr box to dvd-r disc, the movie was almost over when this testing crap came on and ruined it all! I had to pop in a new disc and start all over again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO THANKS TO THIS EAS CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I won't get to sleep till it's all over a second time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the last couple of days here in Tennessee, we've had 5 instances where EAS broke into programming with only Tornado Warnings, it never breaks into shows with Severe Thunderstorm Warnings

  • EAS doesn't necessarily require digital cable. It has been on analog since 97' and still is.

  • EAS doesn't even require television...AM and FM radio stations also relay EAS information when needed.

  • The voice is different. In oregon, they use a live streaming voice from the national weather service when the EAS occurs. It sounds like where you live they use a synthesized voice.

  • EAS tests scare the CRAP out of me. I was half-asleep watching TV in the middle of the night (apparently this has happened to other people lol?) and one of these came on, now I'm afraid to keep the TV on at night again. It gives me the chills.

  • There is a REALLY big debate over the EAS on wikipedia. Someone tried to remove the link to this page from the EAS article. I think a Moderator stopped it, because it's still there.

  • In the Chicago area Comcast does the same. Only the people living in the counties affected have their cable disrupted by the exact same thing above. My understanding is that it comes directly from NWS as soon as they activate the EAS to the weather alert radios. I know it'sa disruptive to TV programing, but it is for everyone's safety...

  • i have comcast cable at my place. i have had a TON of severe thunderstorm warnings over the summer, but I have only seen an EAS screen once so far. isn't that weird?

  • They've cut back on a lot of these because they were a bit too frequent, especially for summertime in western PA. It sort of dilutes the importance when EAS says "Duck and Cover" twice a week. They still display it for tornado and flash flood warnings, though.

    (Contrawise, my Evansville/Henderson tapes are a bit more sensitive to the weather, but that's because severe weather is MUCH MUCH MUCH more overstressed there because of a "recent history". But that's for another thread. :)

  • Next RMT for Pennsylvania is this Thursday at a quarter to one in the morning. Anyone in the state looking to capture a real EAS Test (not like the stuff you see from Sniklson2000) should try to record some programming between 12:00 and 1:15. should catch it then.
