  • awesome! lovely voice!

  • Love this version of the song. KAC knew how to interpret and sing a song where it made it seem like she was singing only for you. Always a class act. Thanks for posting.

  • I can still remember listening to the radio the day Karen Carpenter died. The DJ played this song but only the vocal tract. Such a pure angelic sound! RIP, gone before your time Karen.

  • This has to be the best recording of this song ever, and I found it by accident! Why haven't we all heard this?

  • @TheSunlitLeaf I agree. I often wonder the same thing.

  • I wish Karen would have sung more showtunes!

  • @lukegober13 Isn't that the truth!

  • I have a Carpenter's record with this song on it. I had no idea that Karen even sung this until I got that record. Mariah

  • To explain just how lovely Karen's voice is can be difficult!...Like velvet, like honey, crystal-clear, smooth as satin,...d'y'know what I mean??

  • There are Elvis fans who hadn't even been born when he died in 1977. Undoubtedly, there likewise will be Karen fans for many, many years.

  • Just adored her............One of the great voices

  • I had no idea she did this, Thank-you so much for sending a little bit of heaven my way this evening. This is incredible

  • Karen ! xoxo

  • would love to hear susan boyle do this song

  • @xt3vn

    Whatever for? Not me.

  • This is the best version,by far,of this song.

  • My reaction is simply--Why, Karen, you had to die so early, why?! Why?! Why?!

  • I am speechless - just absolutely beautiful.

  • That she had one of the best ever female voices is beyond any doubt, but having a crack at this hard-to-master song pushes her ahead of other talented artistes.

  • karen carpenter was the greatest female singer if the 20th century shes very much misses by all of us she did beautiful job on this

  • KAREN.. was.. and.. STILL IS.. PHENOMENALLY ANGELIC! Her Voice.. You could FEEL.. her SOUL!

  • Although Karen was middle class and I wonder if she bring herself to (or Richard to let her to sing)"screw the middle classes" Had she lived she would have been the best EVITA,much, much better than Madonna. Evita and Karen R.I.P.

  • THE BEST.

  • I WISH KAREN WAS STILL ALIVE AND PERFORMING, WE NEED HER BACK ON EARTH AGAIN, PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW WHAT QUALITY MUSIC IS AGAIN, NOW WE HAVE SUCH AWFUL MUSIC NOWADAYS, AND NONE OF IT WILL EVER COMPARE TO KAREN'S MAGICAL VOICE! SHE IS TIMELESS AND AGELESS! AND HER MUSIC WILL LIVE ON IN THE HEARTS OF THOSE WHO APPRECIATE QUALITY MUSIC I FEEL SORRY FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER HEARD HER MUSIC, BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT GOOD MUSIC IS! AND THAT'S THE TRUTH!

  • @maleficentdiva I heard Karen sing "Don't cry for me, Argentina" at

Harrah's in Lake Tahoe back in 1978. It was INCREDIBLE!!!! What

a rendition of a gorgeous song! Karen Carpenter was one-of-a-kind,

and there will never be another like her.

  • Karen's is the best followed by Madonna's version they are the best! :) I also learned that Madonna was a big fan of Karen, I was really surprised. Both of these women are two of my favorite singers. both amazing. Karen we miss you so much, you are the best female singer who ever lived. :)

  • @maleficentdiva No disrespect to Madonna. But Madonna will be barely remembered in a 100 yrs. On the other hand, Karen and her amazing voice will be remembered forever.

  • Karen could do it all, easy listening, difficult songs...She is truly a miracle.

  • She can flop on a song and she would still perform.Thats why Karen Carpenter was so special.I just wish she took that to the degree that she couldn't see the beauty in her and what she can do.She left so early and it was just another loss that nobody can understand. There was no harm in her demeanor except to herself and why ?

  • QUE VIVA EVITA !!!!!!!!

  • God takes the good ones way too young....we shall hear you again in heaven some day!

  • I heard this song in Las Vegas in 1977. The orchestra members picked up and read newspapers, while she sang the song to a tape recording. First time I had ever heard the song. The Carpenters were appearing with Gabe Kaplin at Ballys or Caesars Palace, I think. She sounded great.

  • One of THE most beautiful voices ever. So sad that she left us so soon.

  • Im from Argentina and this is the first time i listen to this version ( i actually never thought there was a Carpenter version) and loved it so much :)

  • ....all the more haunting and beautiful because it reflects what she felt. She always - even after all the fame and fortune because of her singing - still wanted to just be the drummer in the background. Fame was hard on her - she was a good person.

  • Thanks Daddybear. Again i find myself feeling that Karen was among the greatest talents that has been lost and that her legacy will continue with a new generation experienceing her amazing talent,

  • @andyslrw Let's hope so!

  • no one can beat Karen's voice!!!she was the greatest!!

  • BEAUTIFUL...from ARGENTINA!!!

  • PERFECT PITCH! VERY FEW HAVE IT!

  • A fantastic talent taken from us way too soon.

  • Did Nelson Riddle do the arrangement? This is the best version of this. Again, I'm in tears.

  • Love this!!! Astounding !!! sung with such feeling too, :)

  • No one will ever compare to Karen. I miss her so much.

  • I believe that Karen's version of this beautiful song is one of the best I've ever heard. Her talent will live on until eternity.

  • @yanni2d: Agreed!!!!

  • Yeeeesss!

  • Back in the day....she did not get the critical appreciation she deserved.... if she had lived she would have moved into the great American Songbook...and then the world would have found out how great she was... listen to how she makes this song all hers.... what a talent... I cry for her that she died so young and so tragically.

  • no dislikes. EXACTLY ! this is wonderful. kc all the way <3

  • @jeleneluar If anyone posted a dislike I'd remove it anyhow....LOL j/k I absolutely love this recording. So mesmerizing.

  • @daddybearphillip "If anyone posted a dislike I'd remove it anyhow..." The Saddam Hussein of Wikipedia!

  • @Widmerpool99 The original comment has j/k beside it... JUST KIDDING. Oh, and Wikipedia? I always thought this was YouTube.... LOL

  • Karen would have been amazing on broadway, I think that would have been her next thing to do if she would have lived. BEST FEMALE SINGER WHO EVER LIVED! :)

  • Still the only version of this song worth listening too ....what a voice so sad RIP Karen

  • @glennka

That's not fair. The Julie Covington version is really good too :-)

  • @nyu6697 > I personally don't think the Julie Covington version comes close to Karen Carpenters. Anyone else agree?

  • @daddybearphillip Karen's version is the best. Everyone else is battling for second place.

  • Just a natural vocalist. She was gifted. Never get tired of listening to KC sing.

  • Stunning voice. Such amazing tone, depth, resonance, and feeling. When her voice cracks, it's heart breaking

  • Very hard to pick just one interpreter...they all sing it so beautifully.

  • That Andrew Lloyd Webber is so talented to come up with all these lovely songs.

  • tis one was the best of all the different ones who recorded it

  • a haunting melody, best of the best for this one. it always gave me chills

  • Many years ago I played this over and over. Today I rediscovered it, and replayed it several times. Amazingly I still have the 8-track cassette that I played all those years ago. This version is amazing to hear without the sratchy 8-track noise from long ago. Karen, I always had a crush on you. Having just lost my lover to the same disease as she died of sets me off again, Karen.

  • Beautiful soul beautiful song, I love Karen's version too!

  • the best version of this song! Wonderful!!

  • she was amazing.

no one can sing like her...

  • @TAHOF I would agree with that.

  • This was recorded for the 1977 album, "Passage". It was the only album the Carpenters recorded that was outside their normal pop style box. Supposedly, it was to show off Karen's voice, which obviously it did. Her voice is absolutely flawless in this recording.

  • @daddybearphillip I JUST LOOKED UP PASSAGE/CARPENTERS CANT FIND ARGENTINA IN IT??

  • @johnarnetsr Don't fret, it is there. Track # 4 is from EVITA and starts with "On the Balcony of the Casa Rosada" and ends with the "Don't Cry for Me Argentina." The track is 8:13 long.
