Man I wish Kim would come over to England at some point... But I know it'll never happen ( I think his total album sales rack up to less than 10k over here. Including Max Webster.)
Saw them at Pine Knob on this tour and at a club in Toledo Ohio,he used my beer bottle to play slide and we sang the chorus to "Soda" into his mic....he's has alot of Frank Zappa in him
One of my top 10 favourite guitarists of all time. And this is saying a lot. One this list is names like E. Johnson, E. Van Halen, W. DeMartini, N. Schon, and J. Waters.
Kim's chops were outrageous at the time of this video. I mean, he's always great, obviously. But his playing was ON FIRE here.
Very cool how they break into 'Beyond the Moon' at 6:50 from Max Webster's Mutiny Up My Sleeve release, too.
Just saw Kim last week in Nova Scotia. I wanted to mention: THEY END THE SHOW JUST LIKE THIS SHOW ENDS !! I couldn't believe it. Kim and the band break into "Beyond The Moon" and finish the show just like in this video from 1984. I was tripped out !! Kim can still play it perfectly, of course. So for those catching his 2009 summer tour around Canada, stick around for the ending of the encore! Don't run to beat traffic !
Rockin'! And ... I would NEVER leave a Kim gig early to "beat traffic." No darn way. I hope to catch at least a couple of his concerts this Summer. Maybe three? Fingers crossed.
No problem, brother. Thanks for the invite, by the way.
I have my ticket to see Kim in early September at The Kee to Bala (Ontario, Canada). Can't get better than that. I saw him perform this past Canada Day ('09) in Pickering, Ontario. Bought a really cool t-shirt, too (from Fredette's son, manning the merch table!). I was jazzed he pulled 'Hitting the Ground' out early in the set.
I also plan to attend his gig in Oakville, Ontario later in September. Mitchell is an institution.
Yeah, I get so jazzed when he pulls out a deep-album song on stage. I mean, I know he has to play all the hits for the beer-swillin' wanks, but I live for when he play something like 'Hitting the Ground', etc. He still jams 'In My Shoes', too. If I had it my way, I'd have him plow through a tonne of obscure material.
I BADLY want him to play 'Drive and Desire' before I die.
What are a few of your favourite Max / Kim songs, dude?
Yes. Obscure ones are great. Cameo Spirit, Caroline, This Dream, Great Embrace, Stand and In the Stars... are faves of mine. Hell I listened to all of Fill Your head.. anything from that!
I was just thinking about Drive earlier, but ANYTHING from the album would be awesome! I actually played Juveniles Don't Stop as a DJ at my college!
April in Toledo is great, too! If he can do Pure As Gold, he can Do Blue River and listen to Cry Out, like daily!
There are SO many Max and solo tunes Kim could play, but I suppose he is stuck jammin' the "hits", because so many of the concert attendees are, again, beer-swilling skids who don't know much beyond them. I am sure if he had his way, he'd throw in many lesser-known jams. He does seem to enjoy goofing around on stage with arrangements.
That WOULD be awesome if there were a Max DVD available. With all the pro footage lying around (sure there is a lot), someone should do it.
'Beyond the Moon' ... I am not sure about the anagram thing. My CD copies of the Max albums don't have the lyrics (another thing that we need: redone CD versions of those records, with remastering and lyrics). What is your reason for believing they are?
I saw them at Harpo's in Detroit, MI on this tour. Awesome show. Always been a big fan of Max and Kim and his visits across the border were rare, but I saw them all :)
Got to see Kim about this time at the Metro in Boston for a lunchtime gig. Talked to the Bass player before we went in and found out some guy in a van parked on the street kinda half asleep was actually Kim.Some guy ran off with the patio Lanterns that were hung over the entrance and I got some autographs, a Hot Dog and the first beer was free...and a WBCN t-shirt as well...Smokin' show especially since they had played in Providence the night before until the wee hours of the morning!
Mitchell rocks HARD. I tell ya, it doesn't get better than this. He had his chops honed tight at this point.
I was listening to 'Expedition Sailor' tonight, and was thinking, Man, Rik doesn't hold a candle to Kim when it comes to lead guitar playing. Not that Emmett plays electric axe on that song. But ... you know. Just thinking (ha, ha). Rik has always been a better acoustic player. I love Triumph, though.
What was I saying? Oh, yeah ... Kim Mitchell kicks ASS.

I love how Kim breaks into 'Honey Forget Those Blues' from Aural Fixations at 1:57, some eight years before that album was released.

Cool list! Thanks for sharing, friend.
Tango of Love, eh? Never heard that one. Oh, you mean 'Tangle of Love'?! LOL Just teasing, man.
You know what song RULES? 'Chain of Events'. Definitely in my top five. Why Kim doesn't rock this one, live, is beyond me.

yeah you can see it in all the vids.
it'd be nice if max filmed a concert with some full albums or something... do the have an anniversary coming up?
also do you know if Beyond the Moon is just anagrams or something?

Whoever owns the music and footage needs to get on it.
But Beyond the Moon sounds so senseless it just 'sounds' like it.
RustySacks 2 years ago
I have been saying there needs to be a Mitchell / Max DVD for some time.
I'll have to listen to 'Beyond the Moon' now that you have said what you have.

Maybe send an email to an address at his Web site? I have a close friend who knows him quite well, so I'll ask him what he thinks.
