i would've intervened. Cheetahs have a hard enough time as it is from nearly all the other cats, plus Hyenas, Buffalo and Baboons to contend with. They need a helping hand. At the same time, because theyre such specialised predators, you wonder what the future holds for them as a species.
All of you that would use "but cheetahs are endangered" as an excuse to intervene in this situation are wrong. Cheetahs are endangered because of habitat destruction, not predation. Its as natural for the baboon to kill a baby cheetah as it is for a cheetah to prey on the offspring of other animals. The purpose of habitat conservation is to maintain the land in a natural state, not to create a zoo which favors the survival of our favorite animal over all others.
Hell I would Interefere, just like if it was a person being attacked, so what if its another animal, esp a baby cheetah. Scare the baboon away as best you can, doing nothing is a worse crime esp if Cheetahs are endangered!
they cannot interfere with the animals, i used to have a job just like this, u r not allowed to trust me. if you do you have to pay money or you get fired
The cheetah can achieve by far the fastest land speed of any living animal and has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in three seconds. Pls, you have got to admit that the cheetah deserves a gold medal plus some respect for its existence. After all, they are in a vulnerable state heading towards their extinction.
It's really hard to make that choice as a biologist. People do it all the time with things like rats invading rare, unbalanced ecosystems. People kill the invading rats too save the more valuable endangered species. A cheetah compared to a baboon is a lot more valuable, but the mother staying alive is still the better of the two options, so he really still had no reason to interfere... Still, it's a hard choice to make.
I love Cheetahs, Honey could kill that Baboon if she wanted to. I have disliked Apes, Monkeys, and Reptiles all my life. If a Baboon were to attack me, I would do the best I could run away, attack it, or both. Baboons are pretty scary animals too.
The baboon held several positions in Egyptian mythology. The name of the baboon god Baba, who was worshipped in Pre-Dynastic times, may be the origin of the animal's name.
Obviously the man in this video didn't see that the baby cheetah was Jesus and could defend himself from a lousy baboon... I mean the cheetah could make any noise he wanted, instead of making chirp noises he could have sounded like a train and that baboon would have been like "ZOMGWTF" and ran
@idricool no i mean pay attention to when it cuts to him. he wasnt near them or he was in the same area but not at the same time as that confrontation happened. he is acting like he was, and i dont like pretenders.
wat ppl lack in understanding of the natural world is amazing to me... its about natural selection, only the "strongest" "most fit" survive, no matter how painful it would b to watch cheetah numbers decrease... we can only interfer in helping when the interference is humans to begin with.
If the baboon found that cheetah I would hope those documentary men save that cheetah because a cheetah death is like killing 500 million people, theres not much of them left.
"Can i live with that?" So the baboon finds the cub and yells for the rest. They come and kill the cub. That's nature, I get it. But everything Mother Nature does isn't perfect and interfering to preserve a dwindling species is not criminal nor will it tip the balance.
@TheTemest I agree, people take things to extreme. I would totally save the little cheetah. So what if its nature. Ill interven with my human self =P especially if it meens something good finally for wild animals coming from humans. Its only costing the whole baboon family like one bite or to of food anyway =P
"can i live with that?", the answer is absolutely, yes. there are plenty of baboons and only a few cheetahs. step in and help the cub, nothing to think about.
@alabamaramma yeah thats like saying oh its better to kill the salmon rather then the seals since salmon over populate them compared to the seals, your an idiot and need to learn about balance rather then arithmetic. Greater numbers means nothing in nature stupid.
@alabamaramma couldnt agree more with you, its because of god damn humans killing cheetahs and tigers because they want to make some fur coats, i think the Big cats deserve some help
@KaiDune - Baboons are opportunistic omnivores. Grass makes up a large part of their diet, along with berries, seeds, pods, blossoms, leaves, roots, bark and sap from a variety of plants. Baboons also eat insects & small quantities of meat, such as fish, shellfish, hares, birds, vervet monkeys and young, small antelopes. Cheetahs are carnivore.
I'll answer you sir. With the cheetah's population around of only 12.000 individuals, there's no room for doubt of twhat to do saving or not the cub. I would have done it with no doubt.
@NearTheLimits Except it isn't that easy. Cheetah numbers are low, but their biggest threat is people, not baboons taking out babies, which they've been doing since time immemorial. And possibly killing an intelligent, emotionally complex creature to save a charismatic one is harmful, bordering on ludicrous. Besides, it wouldn't have mattered, Toto ends up dead anyway! Like most cheetah cubs...
@Silvia1826 Except the baby turtles are in danger because of humans to begin with. Because of our excessive use of lighting at night, the baby turtles have trouble telling which way the ocean is, and therefore spend a lot of time wandering around the beach, getting picked off by predators. If we didn't have so much artifical lighting around the beaches, they wouldn't need our help to begin with. =)
@feralwallflower this may b a bit true, im not sure how accurate, but it does often occur that "predators" of turtles knowingly know when the turtles are about to hatch and where. i can compare this to when salmon in swim to their breeding area, the bears know when and where this is.
2:04 "You do not interfere." -Steve Irwen helped baby sea turtles make it safely to the ocean at one point. :) Guys who do help out the animals make me smile..
What's with this "do not interfere" thing? We already interfere, and humans are animals too. It's human nature to help out an animal in need. Observing nature to the point where you forget that you are part of it. Ridiculous.
@CyricRO What's this human's are animals to? You might be, I'm somthing more. And no, it is not in our nature to help others, we are taught that as children, or some of us are. I feel so sorry for all of you brainwashed evolutionist's out there.
@MrBigjared Evolutionist? Man, anyway. You see an animal in danger, help it out.
If I see a cat in the middle of the road as cars are speeding past it in both directions, I'm going to help. He's already filming all the animals there, they are most likely very aware of him. He's already effecting the animals, he's interfering.
Also, No, you are nothing more than an animal, and nothing less either. You think you're better than all the animals on earth? Go tell that to a polar bear.
@CyricRO You are wrong. Comparing a domesticated in the city to a wild cheetah in the plains of Africa is ridiculous. You are speaking out of sympathy for such a cute creature, but you wouldn't be helping any of the animals. You let them do what they gotta, simple as that. There is a reason why he is who he and you are not. Cardinal rule.
@CottageLife100 "You let them do what they gotta" A baboon doesn't 'gotta' kill an infant cheetah. Plain and simple. Your "Domesticated" city is faulty as well, for all you know my living conditions are just as wild.
"There is a reason why he is who he and you are not." - First off, think before you press the post button, and second of all, the reason he is who he is, and I'm not him - is not because of the cardinal rule, it's because he was born to different parents, at a different time.
@CyricRO Listen you dumb idiot, let me make it plain and simple for you, animals in the wild KILL other animals, it doesn't matter what kind of other animal they are, to insure there own survival, I thought they taught you that shit in grade fucking 4, honestly, what on earth is wrong with your fucking brain? A male lion kills another male lions cubs to insure the survival of his own genes.
A BABOON would EAT that cheetah cub. THIS is how they are programmed, you clearly are an idiot.
@CyricRO Also you do NOT live in the wild, because you mentioned your little heart warming domesticated cat on the street story. So shut the fuck up, this is nature, you don't like it don't watch it you little pussy. Trying to understand why a baboon does what a baboon is designed to do. You are a fucking retard.
@CottageLife100 You know what, if you're going to start resorting to insults (failure insults at that) then I won't bother giving you any more of my time. Random scenario for you, a wild african tribe loses a child somewhere, you see a baboon approach. Do you stand and watch the child get savagely beaten to death, or do you assist?
@CyricRO Clearly you are lying, any even somewhat educated person knows that animals that are not familiar with each other ( especially carnivores) do tend to kill and eat one another. Sometimes they cannibalize, why someone has to explain this to someone who " spends the majority of my time in school" is beyond me.
@CyricRO Saving a human child's life is much different than a wild animals. You are putting animals and humans in equal categories. Which you are wrong for.
@CottageLife100 Fuck off, I believe in equality for all life. Sure the baboon deserves to eat, but not more then that cheetah deserves to live. If it could fight for itself, that's a different story, but you don't let an innocent oblivious child get mauled.
Yes, it is a CHILD no matter the species. You think if an elephant saw that baboon going after that cheetah, it wouldn't stomp the shit out of it?
@CottageLife100 why arent humans and animals equal? didnt they grow up on this earth with people? i sure dont think they flew in on a fuckin space ship. were all living chunks of meat that went through evolution TOGETHER on this planet... i dont see how an animals life is any different than a persons.
@CyricRO I am also not an animal hater, I love animals, I have a dog, a cat and three birds. This is just a scenario in the wild that plays our naturally.
Who says "you can't interfere"? This isn't Star Trek dammit. You're just a shaved ape yourself. Get in the fight! If you were stranded out there and starving you'd eat whatever small animal you could catch, and "interfere". If you were serious about not interfering you wouldn't be out there at all. Your rumbling vehicle and presence alone is undoubtedly preventing interactions that would otherwise occur.
The 'cardinal rule' not to interfere doesn't make sense. These wildlife refuges are supposed to be managing the numbers of endangered species. All this guy has to do is lay on the horn of his land rover and the cub gets to live another day and hopefully grow to have cubs of its own.
@julianlev endangered is the key word, sure i dont care if a cow of pig dies, but big cats like cheetah and tigers are getting shot by god damn humans because they want their fur, thats why these videos are emotional, some of us humans are killing to help our selves
Haha, who is this guy? Quit the emotional fluff. Yes, I wouldn't want to see Toto hurt either, but this is the law of nature. You think he'd get it considering that he's out there all the time!
Would you shoot a cheetah to save a gazelle? Because either way you're killing one of them. The difference is just suffocation or a bullet / starving the cubs.
In nature, especially for omnivores and carnivores, it's kill or be killed. If they don't kill something to eat it, they're going to die; nobody says it doesn't suck. Unfortunately, other animals don't have the intelligence we humans do to live in harmony (not that we do anyways), so it isn't something you can blame them for.
@thunderrrrrrrrrr IF anything, we live in the least harmony with other animals. We slaughter millions of them daily and as a whole, we consume far more than we need and at a rate far greater than can be replenished.
If the cub's mother didn't come I would have gladly shot both baboons in their pink asses! The baboons are thriving and the cheetahs aren't sadly. I love monkeys just not a fan the baboon.
@lilyflora10 For the same reason he doesn't help the baby gazelle when it is hunted for food by the cheetah: this is nature...let it take it's course, or get out of it!
@lilyflora10, well he even said himself that he was on the verge of breaking the code for the sake of that cub. He really DOES dearly care for animals, especially baby animals, which is why he explores wild life and even why he himself was willing to go and risk his life just for that cub when it's mother wasn't around. Shoot I would too, even if I would get torn to shreds, I'd find a huge stick and *WAAAM!!!* smack that baboon in place if it attacked that innocent adorable cub. Well at least
@lilyflora10 if I could, but I would be willing to do so myself. Anyway I'm glad the mother was able to return to her little ToTo, and he felt safe again.
I am puzzled would the baboon have killed and eaten the cub or just killed it for the sake of killing it ? Although I am sure the baboons have lost many of the number to Cheetahs!!!!
@wildman912 Since Baboons are Omnivores, it probably would have had little ToTo for lunch. Some examples of items common to a baboon's diet include grass, leaves, blossoms, seeds, gum, tree sap, roots, flowers, fruits, mushrooms, shoots, herbs, roots, tubers, small animals such as fish, birds, hares and small antelopes.
i would've intervened. Cheetahs have a hard enough time as it is from nearly all the other cats, plus Hyenas, Buffalo and Baboons to contend with. They need a helping hand. At the same time, because theyre such specialised predators, you wonder what the future holds for them as a species.

"There is a reason why he is who he and you are not." - First off, think before you press the post button, and second of all, the reason he is who he is, and I'm not him - is not because of the cardinal rule, it's because he was born to different parents, at a different time.
CyricRO 1 year ago
@CyricRO Listen you dumb idiot, let me make it plain and simple for you, animals in the wild KILL other animals, it doesn't matter what kind of other animal they are, to insure there own survival, I thought they taught you that shit in grade fucking 4, honestly, what on earth is wrong with your fucking brain? A male lion kills another male lions cubs to insure the survival of his own genes.
A BABOON would EAT that cheetah cub. THIS is how they are programmed, you clearly are an idiot.
CottageLife100 1 year ago
@CyricRO Also you do NOT live in the wild, because you mentioned your little heart warming domesticated cat on the street story. So shut the fuck up, this is nature, you don't like it don't watch it you little pussy. Trying to understand why a baboon does what a baboon is designed to do. You are a fucking retard.
CottageLife100 1 year ago
@CyricRO lol now I get why your so stupid, under schools in your page you simply wrote " sucks". Everything makes sense now.
CottageLife100 1 year ago
@CottageLife100 School takes up a majority of my time, and will for probably another 4 years. What are you doing with your life?
CyricRO 1 year ago
@CottageLife100 You know what, if you're going to start resorting to insults (failure insults at that) then I won't bother giving you any more of my time. Random scenario for you, a wild african tribe loses a child somewhere, you see a baboon approach. Do you stand and watch the child get savagely beaten to death, or do you assist?
CyricRO 1 year ago
@CyricRO Clearly you are lying, any even somewhat educated person knows that animals that are not familiar with each other ( especially carnivores) do tend to kill and eat one another. Sometimes they cannibalize, why someone has to explain this to someone who " spends the majority of my time in school" is beyond me.
CottageLife100 1 year ago
@CyricRO Saving a human child's life is much different than a wild animals. You are putting animals and humans in equal categories. Which you are wrong for.
CottageLife100 1 year ago
@CottageLife100 Fuck off, I believe in equality for all life. Sure the baboon deserves to eat, but not more then that cheetah deserves to live. If it could fight for itself, that's a different story, but you don't let an innocent oblivious child get mauled.
Yes, it is a CHILD no matter the species. You think if an elephant saw that baboon going after that cheetah, it wouldn't stomp the shit out of it?
Think again.
CyricRO 1 year ago
@CottageLife100 why arent humans and animals equal? didnt they grow up on this earth with people? i sure dont think they flew in on a fuckin space ship. were all living chunks of meat that went through evolution TOGETHER on this planet... i dont see how an animals life is any different than a persons.

@94VDUBgolf And you are right, YOU are equal to the animals.
CottageLife100 1 year ago
@CyricRO I am also not an animal hater, I love animals, I have a dog, a cat and three birds. This is just a scenario in the wild that plays our naturally.

@CyricRO LOL alright, I will do just that with my HUNTING RIFLE. Yeah, we built guns.

Your rumbling vehicle and presence alone is undoubtedly preventing interactions that would otherwise occur.
menzelcassini 1 year ago
love the sarcasam at the end.....
t6werserv2010 1 year ago
The 'cardinal rule' not to interfere doesn't make sense. These wildlife refuges are supposed to be managing the numbers of endangered species. All this guy has to do is lay on the horn of his land rover and the cub gets to live another day and hopefully grow to have cubs of its own.

dear lord I find these emotional posts funny
I love how people who harp on about the beauty and grace of some animals are perfectly eager to kill others simply because they dont look "cute"
these people have no understanding of wild life

@julianlev U MAD?
hunterdth 1 year ago
@julianlev endangered is the key word, sure i dont care if a cow of pig dies, but big cats like cheetah and tigers are getting shot by god damn humans because they want their fur, thats why these videos are emotional, some of us humans are killing to help our selves
grantflip 1 year ago
@julianlev baboons also throw their own shit at other living things. It's not just about looks.

Baboons are vicious, and adult cheetahs, let alone cubs, are more fragile than other big cats.
bookkeeper57 1 year ago
Haha, who is this guy? Quit the emotional fluff. Yes, I wouldn't want to see Toto hurt either, but this is the law of nature. You think he'd get it considering that he's out there all the time!

I wanted to see a baboon eat a cheetah
cv9113366 1 year ago
Would you shoot a cheetah to save a gazelle? Because either way you're killing one of them. The difference is just suffocation or a bullet / starving the cubs.
In nature, especially for omnivores and carnivores, it's kill or be killed. If they don't kill something to eat it, they're going to die; nobody says it doesn't suck. Unfortunately, other animals don't have the intelligence we humans do to live in harmony (not that we do anyways), so it isn't something you can blame them for.
thunderrrrrrrrrr 1 year ago
@thunderrrrrrrrrr IF anything, we live in the least harmony with other animals. We slaughter millions of them daily and as a whole, we consume far more than we need and at a rate far greater than can be replenished.
deesies 1 year ago
If the cub's mother didn't come I would have gladly shot both baboons in their pink asses! The baboons are thriving and the cheetahs aren't sadly. I love monkeys just not a fan the baboon.

@lilyflora10 It's just like the narrator said, not for us to interfere with nature, we do it enough by tearing up the planet.

Why couldn't the man help the cub instead of looking and recording?
lilyflora10 1 year ago 2
@lilyflora10 For the same reason he doesn't help the baby gazelle when it is hunted for food by the cheetah: this is nature...let it take it's course, or get out of it!

@lilyflora10 dont fuck with the way things are meant to be
slim18212 1 year ago
@lilyflora10, well he even said himself that he was on the verge of breaking the code for the sake of that cub. He really DOES dearly care for animals, especially baby animals, which is why he explores wild life and even why he himself was willing to go and risk his life just for that cub when it's mother wasn't around. Shoot I would too, even if I would get torn to shreds, I'd find a huge stick and *WAAAM!!!* smack that baboon in place if it attacked that innocent adorable cub. Well at least
joejar5 1 year ago
@lilyflora10 if I could, but I would be willing to do so myself. Anyway I'm glad the mother was able to return to her little ToTo, and he felt safe again.

oooooooo i wish that baboon would have kept walking and the cheetah fuck that thing up!!!!
MrCoBreezy 1 year ago
I am puzzled would the baboon have killed and eaten the cub or just killed it for the sake of killing it ? Although I am sure the baboons have lost many of the number to Cheetahs!!!!
wildman912 1 year ago
@wildman912 Since Baboons are Omnivores, it probably would have had little ToTo for lunch. Some examples of items common to a baboon's diet include grass, leaves, blossoms, seeds, gum, tree sap, roots, flowers, fruits, mushrooms, shoots, herbs, roots, tubers, small animals such as fish, birds, hares and small antelopes.
