You can use any system you like ^^ ... if you want to accelerate a larger change in culture just start using metric system screws, parts and stuff ... or start buying inch based parts in europe if you love that stuff. It's a free world.
I still don't understand why Americans stick to the Imperial system.
Look, the whole world (sort of) learn your language. I can use the Imperial quite OK (miles, yard, cup, quart), except your fraction of an inches thing (I prefer 0.3175 cm than 1/8 of an inch. And what's bigger 3/8 or 2/5? Do that in less than 1 sec. I know instantly that 0.375<0.4). Then why don't you try and use the metric system?
@ImEternalWanderer arent you making sweeping generalizations about an entire population on the basis of national origin? yes! that said " its our culture!!!"
@luciacoutinho Matter of habit I guess, we've been raised with the metric system, if we had to change now to something different, it would be a problem too :)
@luciacoutinho because when youve done something one way your entire life, ofcourse something new is going to be hard to learn. It would be just like your country had to switch to our system. Just because everyone else uses the metric system doesnt mean the U.S. needs to conform. If people wanna be overh ere, then they can learn how to do things our way, just like we would have to adjust to doing things your way if we wnet to your country.
@catseye664 take it easy, she just said it's easier to use a system which divides everything by 10 cause that's easy math. you don't need to think about it, everyone knows in half a second how much is a number divided by 10. so supposedly it should be easier to get used to, even if you've done it in a different your whole life. she didn't mean you're wrong by doing things your way, actually i think she was just saying that maybe if you tried it once you would all see it's much simpler.
@johdorada im not comming at you in an offensive way, and I love Wanda. I just get tired of hearing people say shit about America, especially when Americans go to a different country, we have to learn there way of doing things, but people bitch about how we do things differently. Every country is different, but it just seems America gets all the heat. its annoying.
@catseye664 maybe you feel that cause you're american. it's nice to defend your country but this is just fun and it's nice to make fun of yourself too. or should i be upset when she said fuck your birds? i'm a brazilian and believe me we have meteorologists here too! it does upset me a bit to see how everyone thinks brazil is a big jungle with monkeys running in the streets and prostitutes all around. we are better than that but we gotta learn how to deal with it, right? :)
@johdorada I just dont like the fact that America is the country that all the other ones come down on. Maybe I take it a little personal, but its hard when people make a sweeping generalization about an entire nation based on things done by a couple people.
@johdorada I just dont like the fact that America is the country that all the other ones come down on. Maybe I take it a little personal, but its hard when people make a sweeping generalization about an entire nation based on things done by a couple people.
@catseye664 you dont' take all the head dude, I'd say everyone gets the same amount of heat. I'm Canadian and I get sterotyped for saying "eh" and "aboot" and "ruff(roof)" or "rum(room)" all the time not everyone talks like that and we don't live in igloo's or get around in dog sleds lol. Wanda Sykes is just saying the truth and so what? Don't get all upset everyones different, lighten up a little bit...
@RedspRayypainT so true alot of people think all americans are fat although we deff arent the skinniest either but we arent all fat although i dont really like america at all actually but i hate being steriotyped just because of where i was born! >.<
@snaketooth98 exactly, theres all different body types around the world. America is not the only country with people who have weight problems but everyone just likes to sterotype american's for it cause thats what they see on tv and on the internet. People are to naive these days to understand that sterotypes apply to everyone and everywere. Its saddening :(
@johdorada I just dont like the fact that America is the country that all the other ones come down on. Maybe I take it a little personal, but its hard when people make a sweeping generalization about an entire nation based on things done by a couple people.
@luciacoutinho: It's the older people that don't. I'm a high school student, and we learn both systems now in our schools. At least in my states. Anyone who was born in the last 20 years (I can't say older, because I'm not that old and I can't argue it) or anyone who goes to college knows the metric as well as the imperial system.
@luciacoutinho It's not that we can't understand it, it's that it's not relateable. Most of us grew up with our parents using inches, so we associated 2 inches with the size of a thumb or so. It gets hard to change that once your older and are actually introduced to metric.
It's way easier though. I mainly used Metric for everything with math/science, and empirical for conversations with people. I'm trying to convert though, so i mainly use metric now. Metric should be standard 100%
@luciacoutinho if it was the other way around and it was Americans had metric and Europeans ( or what ever retard you are) used metric it woudl then be " yeah imperial is our culture!! you Americans use such a SIMPLE **CONDESCENDING SNORT!** system!!!!
" its because you are all dumb!!"
did I make my fucking point yet?
yes, I did
and dont write any yeah but shit either , the nationalist is you.
that said, I find metric easier.. accept temperature is hare to get used to, like most changes
@luciacoutinho wow I made a little comment about how much easier the metric system is months ago and I still get "hate email". I particularly liked the one guy who said I was an ass for thinking that when he though I was european, but changed his mind when figured out I am Brazilian (the one time that pays out, go figure). I'm not even saying they (americans I mean) should change to metric, just saying that if those who complaim spent 5 min in it they would figure it out, cause it is THAT easy
@15Ellimist It's not that Americans never attempted to learn. We were transferring to the metric system in 1974 but President Carter stopped us from going Metric in 1975 because we would have cost BILLIONS and BILLIONS to change our entire industry, like manufacturing machines, containers, labeling. so they gave up
@luciacoutinho u couldnt believe how slow some of the people in america are look at Sarah palin i live in america i know lol i didnt think the metric system was too hard

@luciacoutinho as moofa said, we do understand it. you know whats funny? if we used the simple metric system and every other country used our more complex system, we'd just be called too stupid. when its the other way around however....
@luciacoutinho its really hard for americans to accept anything that wasn't invented in america, or at least claims to have invented it. All the countries have understood the power of soccer games... to unite us but not for them no american football, baseball, basketball within their own country.... those are the popular ones
@67ChevelleSSBlown460 upto about 10-15 years ago the news here (canada) still gave the temp in metric and imperial now thateveryone has learned it or died we only use metric officially (but in the industry its funny to use metric which is more accurate and then convert it to imperial when we send it to the states lol
I remember when I was in like 6th grade they tried to teach us the metric system & no one understood it, our teacher understood it. Now that I'm in the 11th grade, I'm glad that we don't have the metric system. lol.
@2ultimate2thik but its not that difficult. 1m = 100cm. 1km = 1000m.
The imperial system is much more confusing. 1ft = 12". 1mile = 63360ft. That makes no sense. I think the problem you may have had it how its taught to you. Also, the way you write it makes me believe they started teaching in 6th grade. It should start when you enter school for the best results. Either way, its an international standard, cant hurt to give it one more try..?
