Regarding Question #2: The Cambrian Explosion in no way contradicts the Theory of Evolution. All geologists, and therefore paleontologists will concede that the fossil record is vastly incomplete. The Burgess Shale is unique in that it contains literally millions of fossils. However, there have been many recent finds of large, complex multicellular organisms that predate the Burgess Shale.

Regarding questions #1... Miller and Urey used the best information available at that time to guess (yes that's right, scientists do guess) what the early Earth's atmosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere resembled. Admittedly, they knew they could have been wrong about those conditions. The experiment actually took place in 1952, and was a hallmark experiment--the reason why it is still discussed in textbooks--in synthesis of precursor molecules required for life.

Secondly, it's not very Christian to threaten people with death, simply because they don't believe the same things you do. A fundamental tenet of Christianity is to seek out and embrace the truth. Thus, it's not Christian to deny all of the ever-mounting evidence supporting evolution. You see, the scientists budge, every time new evidence comes to light, and better understanding with it; yet the fundamentalists never budge, believe they are right no matter what, and feel the necessity to try to convince scientists they should believe something with no proof. Didn't God give us our insatiable curiosity to question?

I think the reason he did not reply is that I was not going to play his game of evolution vs. god. He might have a case in the realm of religion (which is not that likely) but in the realm of science he has nothing.

No, evolution is the change in allele in a population over time. We have observed this. Therefore, it is not a concept from one mans mind. The reason you should accept evolution is for the same reason you accept gravity and cell theory. They are all testable and falsifiable. Second, a story in a book is not telling us how a god created anything. It just says he did, not how he did it. Gravity and cell theory are not what a god told us also yet I bet you have no problem with them.

@kevinnorthwestern Like you have just pointed out, there is a process to faith in God. And not faith in any God but faith in the God. First its discovering that God does exist and deciding to search for Him and discover who He is. This involves prayer, studying, research ect. Faith begins to build as you discover truths about God by using common sense, reason, and rational thought. There is evidence for God but you have to have eyes to see and ears to hear. I would be happy to discuss.

"In the beginning, God CREATED." It does not say it evolved. As a matter of fact, God's Word goes on to say how long it took Him and in what order He created everything. Evolution is diametrically opposite of what God's Word says.

Discover magazine last year - Miller also froze samples for over 25 years (another early-earth hypothesis what with polar ice caps and all) and when thawed out, had organic compounds. Amazing! Too bad he didn't live to see all of his samples thawed out.

I think the most frustrating one is creationists complete misunderstanding of what a theory is in the realm of science. And how evolution is both a fact and theory.

Anytime I get in a debate and this comes up, I just ask why gravity is called a theory. Usually all I get back is silence.

There is no way to get any further with these cultists if they can't even understand what a theory is!
