  • Could someone please tell me the details of the DVD so I can

    obtain a copy. Many thanks.

  • "the theme of the lone ranger"??? No its the theme of Rossini's opera Guillaume Tell, which was stolen for use as a theme of a radio show.

  • I am duly impressed.

  • this is beautiful. I don't get the small minded comments. oh, that's what they mean by trolls

  • that bass trombone player is so big he makes his instrument look like a freak'in alto trombone

  • This is definitely one of the finer points of Romantic music. Cello quintets, appropriate percussion foreshadowing the storm, and everything else combine to achieve that which is worth achieving.

  • It's nice to watch a video on youtube and see the top comment is someone praising the cellos.

  • Picture a fat guy going down a hill on a skateboard at 3:55

  • @lawman3842 I can't believe this hasn't gotten more thumbs ups than "Music is the universe"

  • Great sound, but I think that cellist should have gone to the toilet before he came out. He looks like he is busting for a shit! Fantastic top E at the end though. Beautiful!

  • The William Tell Overture is the instrumental introduction to the opera Guillaume Tell (in English, William Tell) by Gioachino Rossini. William Tell premiered in 1829 and was the last of Rossini's 39 operas, after which he went into semi-retirement, although he continued to compose cantatas, sacred music and secular vocal music. (From Wikipedia)

  • I did not want to cry. But I managed only till the second minute. Oh boy, this is beautiful.

  • this is by far my fav piece of classical music wonderful no lyrics bliss

  • The two dislikes are related to the ones who cough!!!

  • 3:13 this video;

    4:27 in v=NGvxcz0JiUc

    SAME GIRL! =D

  • The amount of people coughing during the execution is unrespecting! >:(

  • Beautiful, haunting, fantastic. I will argue to the day I die this is the best singular piece of classic music ever written. Mozart, Beethoven, Bach et al each have many more masterpieces as a collective group of works spanning their respective lifetimes, but none of them have the William Tell Overture.

  • The one dislike is Gessler from beyond the grave, seeking his revenge.

  • Ah, the days when music used to be lyric-less poetry. Amazingly beautiful.

  • Someone had an epileptic seizure when trying to press the "like" button.

  • The one dislike is a cellist who wasn't good enough. ;)

  • Fantastic performance!

  • 1 dislike!... he doesn't HOW to listen!.. :D

  • Someone got the bowings mixed up with the like and dislike buttons.

  • wow!!! those ARE some beasty trombone players!!!!!! O:

  • wow this orchestra is amazing on this piece and the 1812 overture as well! good job to all who have been a part of this wonderful music!

  • Now I know the titles to the 4 movements:

    1-The Prelude

    2-The Storm

3-Call to the Dairy Cows (what??) LOL

    4-Finale "Cavalary Charge"

  • @L1S91 hehe, dairy cows. xD

  • 3:56 Cue tornado!

  • WHO CAN POSSIBLY DISLIKE THE WILLIAM TELL OVERATURE????

  • 1 retarded!

  • Great first cello ! BRAVO !

  • That big guy just GOES TO TOWN on that trombone. Bravo.

  • @Alismyanodyne =] Adrian Morris. Used to teach me for a while.

  • 3:50 and after the trombones kicked ass. I actually played that part for an Audition for the YTSO last year.

  • I am Tuba Player but no Tuba ... T.T /sad

  • Those coughing during the opening cellorgasm should be tortured and executed.

  • Cellorgasm...0:00 - 2:58.

  • 2:10 Funny, the cellit looks like he is about to start crying.

  • @188043 I think that's the idea...that's about when I start to cry too. That's what Rossini would have wanted :)

  • who is the first cello?

  • UNIVERSAL VIBRATIONS ~ NAMASTE ~

  • I still prefer the Disney version of it in "The Band Concert"

  • awesome...it looks like there's black light on the timpani at 2:22 :p

  • THE NOISE IN THE BACKGROUND MAKES ME WANNA KIL MYSELF !

  • @FromPeterhof When weare listening this music, any sound else is noise for our ears.

  • Music is the universe !

  • El solo del chelo es celestial, impresionantemente introspectivo al menos para mi.. y pensar que lo que sigue es una desencadenada fiesta del eliseo.... que contraste!!!

  • I LOVE THE CELLO. It's so gorgeous. And the trombones at 4:00 are awesome!!! That is so awesome.

  • Someone has already mentioned Looney Tunes cartoons - but does anyone remember which Disney short used it as well? It was Mickey Mouse, and there was a flood or something. . .

I dare say most people are introduced to classical music through cartoons. It is a shame that when so many stop watching cartoons, they stop listening to classical music as well.

  • @eveningtsar

Yes, Mickey conducting, then the storm. I think it was called 'The Band Concert'

  • @eveningtsar Mickey mouse in Fantasia was 'Sorcerer's Apprentice' by Dukas ^_^

  • i am lerning about it at school and it is sooooooooooooo good!!!

  • Holy trombone beasts!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I want to find the conductor score to this piece. Can anyone help me?

  • Excellent. Congratulations.

  • Браво, пич!!! :)

  • I was wondering why this sounded faimler, was this song featured in Bambi???

  • I think it was Terminator (the first and the last one only)

  • @initotwinit no, but actually the second movement sounds almost like it... =)

  • @initotwinit

Looney Tunes used all parts of this Overture in many cartoons

  • @smallredgiant I have just recently began appreciating how much classical music I have been exposed to through looney tunes.

  • Rossini Rulez!!!!!!

  • Oh man,der Cellist trillert wie ein Weltmeister gegen Ende!!!

    Slaytanic oder The end complete!

    Like Obituary.

  • @2005Yujin Nächstes mal bitte ein wenig unaufdringlicher trillern...

  • metalhead here. awesome and so clear.. checkout Slayer.. lol

  • I find it amazing how many metal heads listen to classical music.

  • @bagelj yah me to. Alexi laho or whatever get his influence from classic composers. Hes the singer for Children of Bodom i think.

  • The flautist gives a brilliant performance; she should have been recognized by the conductor at the conclusion.

  • There ist everytime a wonderful clearness in the parts of the cello. The tempi a very good not too fast not too slow. I am really impressed of these amazing sound of that orchestra. Bravissimo.

  • I'm glad they didn't rush the tempo

  • i ABSOLUTELY LOVE the cello quintet in the beginning.

  • @k73f why do they think they can leave this out

  • @k73f I got to play that once in an orchestra i was in, it was amazing to play too!

  • @k73f they're absolutely amazing, the cello quintet!

  • very good

  • Those trombones sound amazing!!!!

  • its rock hard to play tho

  • Would you expect otherwise from an orchestral trombone section? :D

Check out some of the low brass clips that utube user OSYBass has- some of them are DANG close to the 1971 Chicago Symph Orch low brass recordings.

Gosh dang, that 3rd trombone feller is a hulk of a guy.

  • @tptmaster90 4:02 amazing!

  • awesome, amazing cello

  • awesome piece!!!

i heard this in another concert and it was AMAZING!

  • it´s a wonderful interpration and shows the power of storm as great as the harmony and idyll of the swiss landscapes! really great - thank you for posting!

  • wow. onlt 3 comments. thats a shame for such a great peice of music.. rossoni keep making epic peices of art!

  • Cheers for posting this Rupert, it's Sasho Somov here, the principal cellist on this video. Gosh I'd forgotten about that, nice to see some familiar faces from my UK freelance days. All best for 2009

  • Me encanta esta interpretacion!!!

    sin duda mi favorita

  • I'm surprised to see no comments here before me.
