John playing acoustic. I didn't know that. Always thought it was George H. That guitar playing on that song, when I hear it, always gets to me. The strumming was and is perfect cadence. Also the F9th chord. I thought John was on the piano. Paul played the keys beautifully. It was the song of the album, of the album of the 60's, the album of Rock and Roll. My dad liked it too. That says a lot.
Yeah... of all the anthology video portions with GM, in this one, you can tell how dear those days are to him.... another portion, is where he talks about the opening bars of strawberry fields
And this is why youtube is number one....makes you realize what a great tragedy it was to lose John at only forty years old....sad,sad,sad...well, at least he blessed us with his genius for that many years..thank goodness he wasn't killed in a car crash at twenty..what a time it was..MIck, Paul, Keef, George, and Richard Starkey ; )
@Yohanan23 Erm, i think you mean Auto Double tracking... There was no 'Auto tune' then.
they are two completely different things. Auto tune is used to make a note 100 % accurate.
ADT is just making two copies of the same recording on tape witch are absolutely identical, then holding your finger on one of them as they both play, thus creating a chorus effect.
@thebeatles240 LOL dude, I was being ironic. You really think I would say such thing in a serious way? hahahahahahahahaha, but thanks for the explanation.
It is amazing to see the profound admiration and love that Sir George Martin had for John. He certainly recognized him as a unique musical talent. And as far as the drums, not even Jim Keltner could have been better than Ringo on that cut. Quite a masterpiece.
George Martin was an incredible talent for the beatles and was resposible for so much more than he ever got credit for. he was without a doubt the 5th Beatle. whithout Martin as their producer a lot of john and pauls idea would never have been recorded.
@JesseReith1 Oh c'mon, don't tell me your that stupid! By start I meant the start of the song "A Day in the Life"(early take) not the start of the video duh!
@15kwakmatthew They were big friends with the Stones, Mick Jagger is on Yellow Submarine, one of the Stones' their first hits was written by Lennon and McCartney (I wanna be Your Man), they also used to synchronise releasing singles so as not to be fighting over the number one spot.
@phreaker92 Of all the musicians George Martin had produced over his 60 years in the business, the only people he gets paid to talk about is The Beatles. I'm not denying that he has immense affection for the group and the individuals (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr), but face it - early on, he was rather dismissive (by his own admission) of George and Ringo. But yet, of all the acts he produced, he gets much more money off his relationship with The Beatles.
@ryderonthestormx3 Just for your information, John never really cared for Stuffy Ole' Born-Again Christian George Martin. Want proof? Okay.. Notice how many times John chose to use Martin as a producer(0) during his solo career, as opposed to Paul(numerous times). Phonies like Martin, Emmerick & a few others have been on Paul's payroll for Years! That and the fact that Lennon couldn't stand them, tells you exactly why they always Favor Paul. It's called Vested Interest..They're in Paul's pocket.
@ryderonthestormx3 The profound love and mutual admiration in between John and Sir George has always been obvious. They were the creators. Sir Paul was just the exceptionnal and unique talent to make the trick work. That is the way it is.
@crazziejoe On its own it's rather simple. As he said "I had another bit.... that wasn't doing anything", but when heard as part of the song it really is just about the perfect complimentary part, "woke up, got out of bed...." to the theme of a day in life. Like Paul said, "it was a georgeous song", but without that middle part, it's not quite what it is with it. The whole really is greater trhan the sum of its parts.
Without question the greatest song ever recorded.

@thebeatles240 Overdubbing is the term used for multiple tracks. And they did have autotune in the sixties just not to the magnitude of today.
