one of my all time favorite games, remember when it first came out.....got lucky and found a mint fullsize arcade model sitting in the store room of a liquor store after the popularity had died off and got it for $50. Repaired one of the boards and it's been working perfectly for over 20 years now. It currently sits in my living room......

as cheezy az this game was MF"s including me wasted so many quarters on this game. those wre the good old days of actually getting out the house and playing games, now er'body inside playing consoles. where i 'm from there are no arcades anymore, you have to go out of town to go to a arcade. the closest ones to me are in danville and greensboro and they aint even half the size that they used to be. RIP arcade rooms. you are greatlly mised.
@HaohmaruOfTheWind: Que? No way man, Satan's Hollow is a 'bit' different because you have to build a bridge over a river of magma for instance. And it has no 3D. And it is not in space. And I can keep going on with mentioning obvious differences between Tempest and Satan's Hollow, but end this by stating that the only thing both games have in common is the fact that they are shoot 'em up games from the arcade in the 80's.
The original Tempest, before it was remade into Tempest 2000 in 1994.

How does one destroy the red enemies that are adjacent to the player, if the player can only shoot downwards?

I love this game. Spent many hours playing it back when I was but a (not so) wee sprout. I'd love to be able to play it again.
