  • I have a friend who plays taiko :3

  • very good for my school Projekt

  • lyrics anybody?

  • Taiko drums are so epic!

  • I love this performance because of the amazing fast-paced "songs" that they perform. I can't find any other video that has anything like it.

  • Amazing performance.

  • Can you imagine how built these people must be? Oh man. I love it. :)

  • To add, I've listened to it about 10 times already, and I still can't get tired of hearing it. :)

  • This is absolutely remarkable. I've always loved the power hidden within taiko drums. I've always wanted to get one. Now, after seeing this, I may just manage to get one within the month. Absolutely stunning.

  • Sugoi Desu ne! That was so cool! And very nice stance better than mines.

  • The girl of the right rocks! It's amazing the way she moves

  • im pretty sure they r head butting the drums at some point

  • take THAT, cast of Stomp! lol

  • who would have though something so simple could give you chills...

  • where can i find non-live versions?

  • @LionEntity Depends on what you're looking for. Professional groups like Tao and Kodo produce high-quality DVDs. If you're looking for training materials, some groups like Tamashii NZ can provide full teaching modules for schools - but taiko is best learned from a sensei or as part of a performing group.

  • @mikew7 i see...thank you.

  • Would love to have seen them live, would be something to remember!

  • Drum line. Epic edition.

just love the drums, the spirit that flows from the mallets.

  • when i feel the sound waves reverberate through my body, the feeling is so soothing. no idea why, it just is. that is why i love aisan percussion. they know how to soothe.

  • 44 people are deaf

  • was the director Katsuhiro Ootomo?

  • AMAZING!!!

  • i got chills while listening to this

  • Beleive me when I say that your speakers CAN NOT do this performace justice

Seeing the show in person is the only way to really feel the intensity of Japanese Taiko drum performance

    Beautiful!

  • @Mundicantus So true! Just saw one again today - it really is incredible in person! A few years back I did a one day workshop and it was really a lot of fun to bang on drums for a few hours! It can get really intense, especially when everyone is moving together in unison! :)

  • The 5s of all the 5s on the planet

  • Outstanding cultural performance. Beautiful!!!!

  • beautiful :D

  • Nice, Very nice(muito bom) =D

  • I love asian percussion. My favourite, no doubt.

Makes me feel a huge indescribable energy and power inside.

  • @Irion It's even more amazing to watch Taiko in person. Every beat makes your heart stop. It's pretty amazing. So much power yet elegance behind it. I luckily have several friends who've grown up playing it and allow me to come to their concerts. :D

  • @catnads Ahhh, lucky guy!

Yes, no doubt about watching Taiko in person must be marvellous. Maybe someday i could do it too, at the moment i only can afford watching them by video hehe.

I'm music composer, and lately i'm trying to make Taiko Drums and asian style tracks too, but i can't find Taiko drum hits for free on the net (i don't have money, hehe) but well, i'm trying my best.

Have a good day, dude :)

  • @Irion Makes me want to go punch a bear in the face! RAAAAAA!

  • @semysane Haha. Careful with bears. Or did you mean a plush? :P

  • If war ever breaks out I want a group of taiko drummers to follow me ;)

  • @mr2wari Compared to the bagpipes and the snare drum I reckon you would shat bricks if you hear this being played by a military unit headed towards you

  • Sound of the ocean

  • talented people

  • I wanted to be there!

    YAAUUUUP!

  • This too is Deculture.

  • @Citrakite

Deculture? it's a mixture of three taiko drum clasic scores.

About the moves, it's pure cuture.

  • @SuperBookworm365 *Rubs the bridge of his nose*

If you have to explain the joke it's not FUNNY.

Protoculture is all the stuff we do as a human society. That includes kabuki (Frontier) Rock (Frontier/Seven) and even Taito drums.

Damn Micronians and their explanations. :p

  • @Sephylote It's time for a new clan leader to become...SHOOOGGGUNNNN!!!!!

  • AMAZING. Good job!!

  • that's an awesome way to get a workout.

  • samoeraaaaaaaaaaaaaai

  • These guys were great! I can just imagine how performances were like in traditional feudal times in Japan. Must have been so amazingly performed even in those times.

  • just amaaaaaaazing!

  • hoy 40 van a morir !!!

  • this gives me a raging hard on

  • my taiko class is ultracrap compared to this ):

  • i love it ; )

    our music teacher is amazing..lol

  • im watching this because i saw this kind of thing in school for the whole day and i thought it was realy cool

  • That was quite possibly one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

  • Truly one of the world's great rhythm techniques.

  • electric taiko? bad ass.

  • amazing. I was completely mesmerized by the whole thing.

  • TAIKO NO TATSUJIN!

  • Chosokabe !!!!!!!!?????

  • 3曲目ってなんて曲でしたっけ?15年前に高校の部活でよくやってました・・・・。今はもう・・・。懐かしいです。

  • 2:45-2:49 reminds me of the opening movement in Kankudai kata in reverse...

  • Is that the Chosokabe sign on their backs?

  • 10x better than Drumline. just sayin.

  • I heard this kind of music many years ago and loved it I know nothing of it`s history or technicalities,I am completely ignorant of anything about it,,,, Buuuut I know I absolutely love it all of it.. That`s it.!!

  • Beautifull, i love it!

  • pata pata pata pon :P

  • why are they wearing the Chosokabe mon?

  • @digglefallen93 I was thinking the same thing, Glory to the Hattori!

  • C'est super sympa de faire partager ce genre de vidéos relativement rare pour les non initié.

    Merci.

    J'ai trouvé ca spéctaculaire.

  • One word discribes what I think of this song, and what I think of Taiko drum music... Epic.

  • SUGOOOI.

  • I bet these people don't have problems with their aggression...

  • QUALITY!

  • What's with the assortment of sticks the shimedaiko drummer has?

  • @ZigZagnut357 Smaller sticks are used for the shime; easier for finer control of the instrument and less chance of damaging the skin. However we also change positions often between different drum types, so performers often carry several different types of bachi. Smallest for shime, medium for Chu-daiko, largest for O-daiko.

  • @mikew7 Thank you for clearing that up.

  • @mikew7

  • such a brilliant instrument!

  • Always will love japan :)

  • Even though I do play those type of drums I have never learned anything like that.

  • I don't like this. It's too noisy. It sounds like loud banging noise.

  • @Critique808 you say that because you didn't play it :)

  • @Critique808 DUde what did you expect from drums???

  • リズムはもっといいです!

  • Chuck Norris uses this to pump up.

  • if you think this is good you should go to a summer festival in Japan they really make the festivities BIG during that time of the year

  • lol rock in ancient time, anyway i like drum , cool piece of music

  • woah! the first girl in the front row is jsut going for it! lol awesome vid. ive watched this about 100 times. its so good!

  • Ok bon bah je vais me chercher un cours de Taiko moi...

  • they're not just beating the drum, they're showing their spirit, their manliness

  • dude that is like an intense ab workout

  • now i understand why taiko were used to frighten the enemy and motivate own soldiers

  • thanks for this upload amazing :D

  • 36 people have no musical appetite

  • why do i feel like crying? it's not like it's some kind of sad song damn it.

  • @ellaera3000 thats the power of music, it makes you cry, dont worry thats just the negativity leaving your body, sweetass music has that side effect

  • @GORADCORE90 i like it!! negativity leaving my body. SWEET!

  • It is like they are fighting. Only more epic.

  • Omgomgomg for the upcoming season of marching band we're playin something like this the show is called the last samuri. I cant wait! Im such a geek lol

  • OMG this so so awesome! I feel so moved by this performance!

  • The video is great, but there is truly nothing like actually being their and watching it.

  • That was breathtakingly beautiful~ >:]

  • I can imagine a very eoic battle happening between samurais or ninjas. sweet sounding music

  • not exactly the kind of instrument you wanna possess or practice in my 2nd floor flat....

  • while they were playing i was imaginating a samurai fight.

  • I so wish my percussion teacher would let us play something like this for our Chamber Show!

  • wonderful! ;D

  • cannot compare with live feeling. live sound make's ya skin shrinking.

  • Holy balls, that was awesome..

his name escapes me but i bet he can do that with two drums...... lol he is super skilled not as much as them but still he cirss-crossed and flipped his sticks while playing 2 drums!

... i would love to see him do this!

  • Hey, wouldn't a flyswatter be quicker?

  • So these people have a CD or something? if they had a song like this i would buy it.

  • How come this is the only Taiko video I have seen that actually has awesome upbeat patterns? Everything else sucks in comparison.

  • I NEED ONE IN MY HOUSE.. TO USE IT AFTER EACH STRESSFUL DAY....

  • They make it seem so easy but I bet it's hard as hell.

  • Man I want to do a keiko match in kendo with someone with this music

  • only the japs can create something this epic!

  • 非常にクール

    ありがとうございます

  • @mikew7 You say you're unsure of the climax's origins. Maybe I can clear it up for you. The movements and rhythm are almost identical to the open domain song called "hachijo". Hope that helps.

(there are tons of versions of this song, but if you're interested, northwest taiko's version looks pretty similar to yours)

  • @Monpanacheable Thanks for that; I've heard some portions of Hachijo before but never this particular part. I'll track that down.

  • @Monpanacheable HACHIJO, you say? Hmmm... I'll have to look at the vid again. I THOUGHT those rhythms sounded a bit familiar...

  • Some of the rhythms played here are from YATAI BAYASHI and some are obviously from MIYAKE DAIKO. However I can't identify the rhythm sequences at the climax and ending of this piece. Are they derived from another source too or did the Haere Mai group create them? Just curious...

  • @NCTaikoDrumboy We refer to that as the Miyake Chorus. Miyake is typically played with a series of solos, and ends with the Chorus played all-together. Since this was a mashup of two songs the solos were cut. Unfortunately I can't trace the origins of that part; but it was either created by our teachers' original group IPC Kodama, or it may have been brought to Kodama from japan at some point in its history (Happy anniversary Kodama! 20 years this September)

  • @mikew7 I see. Well at any rate, it's an interesting blending of rhythms from different sources. Our group has done similar things in the past as well, incorporating rhythm sequences from various origins that we thought were neat or catchy. BTW, our group goes under the name of Triangle Taiko of North Carolina and I'm one of the founding members. We also have our own webpage here at YouTube. We'll be celebrating our tenth anniversary on January 20, 2012!

  • Fantastic!

  • they must have serious upper body strength to drum this way!!! as in the beginning on the floor!!!

  • they must have serious upper body strength to drum this way!!!

  • Just so I'm clear. This is simply amazing.

  • Three words: THIS IS SICK!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love Taiko it hypes me and calms me at the same time.

  • What is the name of that small drum that the one person is playing? Thanks!

  • @pakmanATL It's a shimedaiko or "shime", used for timekeeping. It's roughly the equivalent of a western snare drum

  • @mikew7 Thank you mikew7!

  • @mikew7 Is there a Chinese equivalent?

  • I saw these guys yesterday at "A Taste Of Japan". They're amazing live!

  • hey what do they scream around 2:08 ?

  • @xEverAfter It's "so-re". Our teachers Saho & Midori said that it does not translate as a word, it is simply a kakegoe [a verbal cue that the rhythm is about to change].

  • @mikew7 thanks! :]

  • 35 people will never be Samurai

  • WWWHHHHHAAAAAA!!!!!! SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!

  • Wow I feel like going to war :D

  • That was awesome!! I only looked this up because there was a reference in a book but now I'd like to do some further research!

  • sounds like matrix reloaded a little

  • Good god... imagine charging a battefield with an army of samurai behind your back listening to this.

  • YOooooooooooommmmmm *dom dom*!

  • This norvegian music from Saudi Arabia is great

  • this is amazing, fantastic, excellent, wonderful

  • I remember when my one of my Sensei's learned Taiko Drumming, and taught a bunch of the other students at my dojo. We'd be doing class, being pumped by them practicing in the back room.

    Gotta love Taiko Drumming!!

  • this would be fun to do!

  • i have a taiko festivil tomorow, in australia cant wait

  • Forget africa, japaneses know how to play the fucking drums!!

  • Se la jalan!!!

  • que boludes por favor

  • Damn do I love this stuff.

  • This sounds very familiar.. Is it from the beginning of Rising Sun? Sounds awesome...

  • @bodiza420 Hi Bodiza, no I don't think there's any relation but I know the Kodo song you are talking about. The rhythm you're hearing is a well-known traditional Japanese song from Chichibu; it's very possible Kodo was using elements of that song in the Rising Sun intro as well (love that intro; great visuals too...)

  • Does anyone know of any places near Fort Collins or Mead Colorado that has a place to learn Taiko?

  • @r0ck0n360 In Arvada (Denver), there is a well known group called One World Taiko that was the official team at Disney Epcott for 4 years. There is also a Childrens group in Ft. Collins named Shinboku Taiko, but I do not have any contact info for them.

  • ouaahhh .... 5/5

  • This is just awesome, i can keep watching it over and over and never get tired of it. Excellent job!!

  • can someone please tell me what they are shouting?

  • @xX0Jota0Xx They're shouting "so-re!" which literally means "that" but accented differently, I guess roughly you can compare it to somebody shouting "c'mon" during a performance.
