You are right, using a bar to prevent sliding door break-ins will not work. Crooks can simply lift up when they shimmy the door and it will lift right out of the tracks. Try doing that with our lock installed - simple aftermarket double-bolt device that stops burglars and childproofs at the same time. That's a nice deterrent, but it won't prevent the door from being easily lifted or pryed out of the track like this lock does. A thief wants to work quietly. No chance of doing that trying to cut glass after encountering a security lock like this one. Truly easy project with great benefits. Just don't lock it and misplace the keys. :)Also, this is an "away from home" lock. Don't lock it when at home. In smoke/fire, for instance, fumbling trying to undo this lock could cost lives.
