@weasel66666 454 tt is about 650hp on the common set up. this a 800hp and it gets 30mpg. plus if u have a tt 454 ur gona have to run high oct fuel that more expensive than diesel and u'll get like 15mpg. plus it not gona be as reliable.

Anyways, the old Detroit Diesel 92 series 2 stroke wasn't too bad of an engine in my opinion... just needed a lil bit of tlc to remedy fluid leakage. They were quite the powerhouses in my opinion as the HEMMTs weighed anywhere from about 30 to 50 tons (depending on the varient... whether it was a fueler truck or wrecker, ect, ect) and when you floored one of those things, they would haul ass pretty damn well. Anyways, plz hit me back up with some info and/or feedback k.
@catman10121988 I mean, they were COMPLETE junk in my opinion... or at least the naturally aspirated ones that were older were... the newer ones that were turbocharged weren't half bad, though... but I still think that either a 6.6 Duramax, Cummins B series, or even an International Powerstroke 7.3L would have been better choices than the damn 6.2 and/or 6.5L Detroit Diesel engines that also wore the GM badge (older ones). The newer ones(w/ turbocharger) I think had the AM General badge, I thnk
@catman10121988 lol, I remember EVERY damn time it got cold, the damn HEMMTs would ALWAYS have damn coolant leaks... that was mostly because of cheap hoses, though... and alot of them were old... some as old as 1983. I know that doesn't seem very old, but the US military is pretty damn hard on equipment anyways as an unspoken rule lol. Now the older humvees had the crappy 6.2 and 6.5L naturally aspirated and indirect injected V8 diesels that in my opinion were JUNK... and they wore the DD badge.
@catman10121988 And that old 92 series that I'm describing had GM stamped on it in quite a variety of places, including the valve covers... hence why I assumed that GM still made Detroit Diesel... and yes, I know that DD's leak... but back at the motorpool we mostly had coolant issues with hoses more so than oil from the crank case... If you use enough Permatex, you can generally remedy the oil leakage problem... or at least that was the case in my experience.
@catman10121988 I mean, they already used a mercedes engine in either most or all of the Freightliner Sprinter vans as well as the Mercedes and Dodge sprinter vans... which are all essentially the same vehicle, just with different badges on the grills and interiors/exteriors. Btw, I didn't know that Detroit Diesel was no longer owned, operated and made by GM because the last one I had seen was in a HEMMT (Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck) that had an old 2 cycle 92 w/ turbo n supercharger.
@catman10121988 Furthermore, most Kenworth trucks I've seen have Cummins engines in them... and most Peterbilt trucks have Cat engines... however I read in Diesel Power Magazine that Cat is discontinuing their on-highway engine division... however I can't recall when they're supposed to be doing this. Another thing... does Daimler Benz still either own or are merged with Freightliner? I ask this because In this case I'm curious why they wouldn't just use a Mercedes diesel for the bigger trucks.
@catman10121988 Oh, and another thing I was wondering... to my understanding one used to be able to order a class 8 truck with any engine and transmission of their choice. I'm guessing this is still true as I've seen Peterbilt trucks with Cat engines strapped to Eaton Transmissions and Stewert&Stevenson trucks (the newer Military 2.5 and 5 ton cab overs) with Cat engines strapped to Allison Transmissions... I've also seen Cummins engines in Volvo trucks...
@catman10121988 Another thing I would like to know is when Peterbilt and Kenworth merged to Paccar? I was completally ignorant of this until you informed me of it. Could you send a link with information regarding the merger as well as the Ohio Dmax plant? Or do you happen to know of an online encyclopedia similar to wikipedia, but with set in stone facts that aren't changed and updated by just anyone? lol I could just KGB everything, but I don't feel like paying a buck every time I'm curious.
@catman10121988 Okay, well, first off I'm gunna let u know that Its not my intent to get into an oline pissing match over this... I was just curious and inquiring, not trying to argue. Anyways, are the Dmax engines made 100% there? Or are they just assembled there from imported components? I'm guessing that the Bosch CP3 injection pumps and injectors are imported... as Bosch is a German based company, but i believe they have some plants in America... one in Chicago, I think.
@catman10121988 Are you sure? Because a fair deal of my friends that come from Detroit and worked/work for GM have told me that its made by Isuzu and that the first Dmax engines even had Isuzu stamped on the valve covers. It wouldn't make sense to me that GM would have another diesel plant just for the Duramax, because they already own and operate Detroit Diesel... wonder why they didn't just make a smaller version of the Detroit 92 series? That would have made more sense if u ask me.
@coalroller89 actually GM don't own DD anymore the dumb asses sold it to Daimler Crysler, back in 2000/2001 but your right if they still had it they wouldv'e probably just made a smaller version of the D60 that would be one sick ass diesel cause DD has been making diesels since the 1920 so they have tons of experience. i pretty much consider the Dmax GM's baby cause Isuzu has been apart of GM since the 70's
@bigjimmy0922 well powerstroke isn't part of Ford just a hired company to buid there crappy engines, and cummins isn't part of dodge just a hired company to install engines in there trucks but you don't have to take my word just ask
I love it when people go and do something completely out of the ordinary. This is awesome, get some vids of this thing pouring out the smoke. Awesome car man.
caterpillar engines are also thrown in a lot fo the real big trucks that gm makes we have a gmc top kick 1991 that we use for sand and salting with in the winter and it has a caterpillar engine in it beast truck
@MG42pillbox don't be mad cause that thing could woop your dumb ass 3times over, get a life , gm helped build that engine too so know your shit or shut the fuck up
i met him in a meeting in orange county california , in the new storage of OPG, maybe you can call them and they will tell you how to reach him, good luck.
dieguen65, wish you had an email for this guy. I have a 68 GTO (as per the name oh and a 2006 GTO also) with a dead powerplant and this exact setup is what I'm looking for. Banks is running something similar in there S-10 so some of the parts are available. Serious cash though. But as the Dmax gets older, more parts will be on hand. I also like the Cummins but for something like this, it's just too heavy.

well you are right but i don't think this thing is 1000 hp because the max hp you can get
in a regular diesel truck is 950 and that will
just destroy the rest of the transmission components and everything else
and besides 350hp is quite alot of power
the 93 dodge diesel p/u's had 195 hp I think
they are not what one would consider a
truck that you would modify to get 300+hp although I have seen it done

MrBadass2003 1 year ago
@Rabiesthecat you realize cummins make more than one engine right?

@osp80

@Therebeldeerhunter
Thats not exactly how I meant it dip shit
Dodge doesn't own Cummins in ANY way, they just have a contract with Cummins.
Same with GM/D-Max and Ford/PSD

Anyways, the old Detroit Diesel 92 series 2 stroke wasn't too bad of an engine in my opinion... just needed a lil bit of tlc to remedy fluid leakage. They were quite the powerhouses in my opinion as the HEMMTs weighed anywhere from about 30 to 50 tons (depending on the varient... whether it was a fueler truck or wrecker, ect, ect) and when you floored one of those things, they would haul ass pretty damn well. Anyways, plz hit me back up with some info and/or feedback k.
coalroller89 2 years ago
@catman10121988 I mean, they were COMPLETE junk in my opinion... or at least the naturally aspirated ones that were older were... the newer ones that were turbocharged weren't half bad, though... but I still think that either a 6.6 Duramax, Cummins B series, or even an International Powerstroke 7.3L would have been better choices than the damn 6.2 and/or 6.5L Detroit Diesel engines that also wore the GM badge (older ones). The newer ones(w/ turbocharger) I think had the AM General badge, I thnk
coalroller89 2 years ago
@catman10121988 lol, I remember EVERY damn time it got cold, the damn HEMMTs would ALWAYS have damn coolant leaks... that was mostly because of cheap hoses, though... and alot of them were old... some as old as 1983. I know that doesn't seem very old, but the US military is pretty damn hard on equipment anyways as an unspoken rule lol. Now the older humvees had the crappy 6.2 and 6.5L naturally aspirated and indirect injected V8 diesels that in my opinion were JUNK... and they wore the DD badge.
coalroller89 2 years ago
@catman10121988 And that old 92 series that I'm describing had GM stamped on it in quite a variety of places, including the valve covers... hence why I assumed that GM still made Detroit Diesel... and yes, I know that DD's leak... but back at the motorpool we mostly had coolant issues with hoses more so than oil from the crank case... If you use enough Permatex, you can generally remedy the oil leakage problem... or at least that was the case in my experience.
coalroller89 2 years ago
@catman10121988 I mean, they already used a mercedes engine in either most or all of the Freightliner Sprinter vans as well as the Mercedes and Dodge sprinter vans... which are all essentially the same vehicle, just with different badges on the grills and interiors/exteriors. Btw, I didn't know that Detroit Diesel was no longer owned, operated and made by GM because the last one I had seen was in a HEMMT (Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck) that had an old 2 cycle 92 w/ turbo n supercharger.
coalroller89 2 years ago
@catman10121988 Furthermore, most Kenworth trucks I've seen have Cummins engines in them... and most Peterbilt trucks have Cat engines... however I read in Diesel Power Magazine that Cat is discontinuing their on-highway engine division... however I can't recall when they're supposed to be doing this. Another thing... does Daimler Benz still either own or are merged with Freightliner? I ask this because In this case I'm curious why they wouldn't just use a Mercedes diesel for the bigger trucks.
coalroller89 2 years ago
@catman10121988 Oh, and another thing I was wondering... to my understanding one used to be able to order a class 8 truck with any engine and transmission of their choice. I'm guessing this is still true as I've seen Peterbilt trucks with Cat engines strapped to Eaton Transmissions and Stewert&Stevenson trucks (the newer Military 2.5 and 5 ton cab overs) with Cat engines strapped to Allison Transmissions... I've also seen Cummins engines in Volvo trucks...
coalroller89 2 years ago
@catman10121988 Another thing I would like to know is when Peterbilt and Kenworth merged to Paccar? I was completally ignorant of this until you informed me of it. Could you send a link with information regarding the merger as well as the Ohio Dmax plant? Or do you happen to know of an online encyclopedia similar to wikipedia, but with set in stone facts that aren't changed and updated by just anyone? lol I could just KGB everything, but I don't feel like paying a buck every time I'm curious.
coalroller89 2 years ago
@catman10121988 Okay, well, first off I'm gunna let u know that Its not my intent to get into an oline pissing match over this... I was just curious and inquiring, not trying to argue. Anyways, are the Dmax engines made 100% there? Or are they just assembled there from imported components? I'm guessing that the Bosch CP3 injection pumps and injectors are imported... as Bosch is a German based company, but i believe they have some plants in America... one in Chicago, I think.
coalroller89 2 years ago
@catman10121988 Are you sure? Because a fair deal of my friends that come from Detroit and worked/work for GM have told me that its made by Isuzu and that the first Dmax engines even had Isuzu stamped on the valve covers. It wouldn't make sense to me that GM would have another diesel plant just for the Duramax, because they already own and operate Detroit Diesel... wonder why they didn't just make a smaller version of the Detroit 92 series? That would have made more sense if u ask me.
coalroller89 2 years ago
@coalroller89 actually GM don't own DD anymore the dumb asses sold it to Daimler Crysler, back in 2000/2001 but your right if they still had it they wouldv'e probably just made a smaller version of the D60 that would be one sick ass diesel cause DD has been making diesels since the 1920 so they have tons of experience. i pretty much consider the Dmax GM's baby cause Isuzu has been apart of GM since the 70's

duramax is part of isuzu. if you were a real chevyman you would have know that. you dont have to take my word for it look it up

@bigjimmy0922 well powerstroke isn't part of Ford just a hired company to buid there crappy engines, and cummins isn't part of dodge just a hired company to install engines in there trucks but you don't have to take my word just ask

you really do not have to. The 65 impala that Pimp my ride did, They did not reinforce the frame, and it had 800 on only 1 turbo not twined.

dieguen65, wish you had an email for this guy.
