  • Is It me or is this a turbo bark?

  • i just jizzed my pants!

  • This is just boost blowing back through the intake and out the filter no bov and waste gate has nothing to do with this sounds awesome

  • A blow off valve is a spring loaded pop off valve on the intake and a waste gate is mounted on the turbine housing (exhaust side) of the turbo and is controlled by boost through a spring and diaphragm which dumps exhaust gasses away from the turbine to prevent overspeed this kind of turbo surge or bark isn't that bad its when it does it while under throttle or load it can actually twist the shaft in half

  • @MrTuttle100 you r the only one here so far that posted the correct info lol, funny how ppl think bark is bov or the wastegate...... very well said!

  • sounds horrible that flutter is bad for the turbo

  • That is a turbo bark, not a BOV. Last I checked making your turbo bark is bad...

  • @67ChevroletSS It does have a BOV never said it did. It was referring to the blow off of excessive pressure.

  • If it has no physical mods then there is no BOV. Diesel trucks don't come stock with BOV's sorry ur day just got ruined...

  • @soberfaceracing594 lol he bought a diesel cause everyone and there dog has one and thinks they know diesel! LMAO

  • It's a wastegate dumbass. Most likely u cut the hose from ur turbo to ur wastegate and blocked it off thus shutting off your wastegate which leaves boost no where to go once u abruptly let off the throttle. Causing the leftover boost to travel back through the turbo and spinning the turbine backward.

  • @soberfaceracing594 Nope sorry, all stock motor with no physical mods.

  • @soberfaceracing594 WTF r u talking about man? A wastegate lets off excess boost when you're ON the throttle. It's the BOV that vents it when you come off throttle to protect the turbo. Opinions are like assholes man.

Sounds awesome @scidav87. Don't listen to these faggots.

  • @soberfaceracing594 Which can cause either major damage to your turbo, or destroy your engine. Trust me, I've been there.

  • So u own a bunch of turbo vehicles and u still don't know that when u spool your turbo like that it gets the oil hot and you are supposed to let it idle to cool the oil back to normal, its the best way to ruin the bearings in your turbo So it won't run 9's for long bud

  • People like this person shouldn't own a turbo vehicle.

  • @leostapleton2004 You have no idea who your talking to. Every vehicle I own has one or more turbos. I do all my own work and my 2000 Camaro run mid 9s and still weighs 3800lbs. I have vids on here of that as well.

  • bark= bad lol keep doing it though. I'll sell you another turbo

  • @goose... You are so incredibly wrong bud. Research the difference in a bov and a W/G. then comment back.

  • @uthinkuknow. You are a complete idiot. The sound you hear is not the turbo spinning backwards, its always spins one direction. The only way it will spin backwards is if the motor is running backwards, (sucking air through the exaust) the noise is from a factory blow off valve. When it reaches 28 psi it slightly cracks to bleed off pressure, when the pressure surges, it opens up thus, barking at you. FYI they all come factory with a blow off valve!!!

  • that is the sound your turbo makes before it dies! haha so bad for your turbo!

  • @Calhoun1186 Been doing that for around 3 years now, and still pull trailers just fine.

  • @scidav87 i dont think thats a BOV. its turbo bark, compressor surge.

  • @UthinkUknowlol3715 The truck does not have a BOV. I was referring to the sudden reduction of boost pressure.

  • @scidav87 do you know that the sound you hear is actually your turbo spinning backwards? its hard on the turbo and prb not good for the engine. i dont know why turbo diesels arent equiped with a blow off valve from the factory.

  • @scidav87 Sudden reduction of CFM demand from the engine, but same amount of boost pressue. I think is what you meant to say ;)

  • @UthinkUknowlol3715 turbo bark and compressor surge are completely different things. The turbo barking upon letting off the throttle is of no concern. All diesels do it, everytime you get out the throttle. Compressor surge is when the turbo is past the surge line upon heavy acceleration. It sounds vaguely similar, but is DEATH to turbos. Typically, it unscrews the compressor wheel/nut and sucks it through the turbo.

  • @Duckyistrippin huh, from my knowledge its compresser surge. which is when the throttle is let off abruptly after turbo has put boost into intake track, then with the throttle bodies closed the air pressure has nowere to go but back thru the compressor wheel, spinning it backwards. and whats this surge line you talk about? never heard of it. so tell me what exactly is turbo bark then? cause NOT all diesels make THAT barking sound.

  • @UthinkUknowlol3715 You got it all backwards. THIS VIDEO IS TURBO BARK! Search youtube for compressor surge, click the first video. Compressor surge happens when you have your FOOT IN THE THROTTLE! It sounds real ugly. Is it similiar? sure. In the end the engine cant take the amount of air being produced by the turbo. But true compressor surge is when the turbo is too large for the engine. and yes, all diesels with non variable turbos bark when you let off it.

  • @UthinkUknowlol3715 surge line is the dotted lines on a compressor map that make the elliptical shape, by the way. go to the garret website, and do some reading. It will explain most of this for you.

  • @Calhoun1186

Thats just how the turbos sound in this particular motor. The newer generations have v. v. turbos that sound nothing like this. I love hearing this lol

  • @Calhoun1186 no thats the sound of not haveing a wastegate... turbos fine.

  • i have an 06 gmc lbz waht did u do to make it do that?????????

  • @dieselfreak54321 The LBZ has a variable geometry turbo, mine has the older mechanical turbo. Yours is a much better design which I would rather have. I actually never did anything, it just has exhaust, intake and a tune.

  • Can you make that blow off sound with a stock lb7 turbo,we have the big head wasstegate?

  • @XXkawasaki11XX yes you can i used to have a 2001 stock lb7 dmax and my turbo would bark like that if i was on it hard and let off of it real quick

  • look at me im trying to break something

  • Bad idea

  • thats not blow off, flutterfrom the compressor (vgt)

  • @jeffhend24 The LB7 doesnt have a vgt turbo, its the 2004.5 and up trucks (LLY,LBZ,LMM)

  • Ewww dude thats all the boost that was being forced into the intake manifold trying to come back out of the turbo inlet because the rpm's are comming down so fast and there nothing to keep the turbo spooled up to create pressure thats bad for your turbo broski grab a blow off valve if your going to keep doing that so the boost has somewhere to go after you let off the throttle and doesnt try to spin your impeller backwards. im 18 and i know these things from working with chrysler...no offense :/

  • @blacktopsr20det Kid your need to go back to school diesels dont have throttle plates they are an open intake system controlled by the amount of fuel that goes in. the purpose of a bov is so all the excess boost has a place to go when the throttle plate is closed and doesnt surge the compresser. So basically what happens with a diesel you step let off the pedal and the engine sucks up all the excess boost thats why diesels have more of an engine break then gas when you let off the throttle

  • @olearyk17 diesels have less engine brake than a gas motor because there is no throttle blade to make a vacuum in the intake to slow the motor, thus why theres such thing as an exhaust brake or a jake brake on some diesels....the noise you hear on this truck is not a blow off valve or a wastegate, nor is is a compressor surge...what u hear is the compressor wheel of the turbo trying to compensate for the massive amount of air getting pulled back thru the exhaust when he lets off the throttle

  • @olearyk17 Well, you were half right up until you started talkin nonsense. Diesels have more of an engine break because there static compression is twice that of a gas engine, it has jack shit to do with the turbo. Turbo fart is because the turbo is making boost, and when you let off the throttle the engine cant use all the air the turbo is making. Thusly, turbo fart/bark/whatever. They do make electronically activated BOV's for this, but they are retarded.

  • @olearyk17

We'll callyou the bus driver...cause youre takin EVERYBODY to school!

  • fun and games till your shaft breaks in half

  • @orin250 Thats what they make bigger turbos for!

  • You don't hear wastegates opening... they make no noise and if they did open it just passes the excess exhaust pressure out the exhaust. The noise you hear is coming from the compressor side.

  • Isn't that just the waste gate opening?

  • @dalton1583 Thats what I would sure say. Some people say compressor surge...but how in the world is that possible, diesels don't have throttle blades that close to create surge.

  • @scidav87 It could be the vanes in the turbo opening, if you have a VGT that is

  • @scidav87 surge is the built up boost trying to escape so it goes backwards through your turbo which can lead to serious turbo damage

  • @scidav87 Serious surge, when the turbo is moving that much air, it doesnt have to have a throttle blade to create too much pressure.

  • as stated that Turbo Bark and thats a good way to kill your turbo!

  • Compression surge. Aka dont do that very often.

  • Feel bad for that turbo. Ouch on the turbo bark

  • thats not a blow off valve thats turbo bark

  • @FORDGTFANATIC Diesels don't have blow off valves, as they don't have any throttle blades to cause compressor surge. The blow off sound is cause from the sudden defueling of the motor and the "blowing off" of excess boost pressure via the wastegate, etc. Turbo bark is just another word for it.

  • @scidav87 Close, that sound is air hitting the fins in the turbo since air is being forced back into the turbo the wrong way. As cool as it sounds, it isnt a good thing.

  • @steveo5402001 I'm not sure about that either. Diesels don't have throttle blades that close to actually make surge, the only thing that happens under deceleration is defueling of the motor...the valves, etc are all still open just the same.

  • @scidav87 If you're right my LLY wouldn't do this too.. And I don't have a wastegate. its air being forced backwards through the turbo.

  • @FORDGTFANATIC Turbo bark is the Waste Gate opening up.

  • @Learnthethingsido no, there is no waste gate on my lly it regulates boost through electronically positioning the veins its called VVT look it up, mine will bark exactly like this getting on and off. its the pressure in the boost tunes built up going back in to the outlet end of the turbo when the exhaust feeding the inducer wheel drops down a lot from letting off the throttle

  • @Learnthethingsido Tubes* i mean not tunes
