@PhilipsLS1300 WOW wtf you got the same cpu and gpu as me and you cant run on high there is something wrong with you i can run it on ultra at 30-40 fps
@Arnoud1987000 IT HAS A FUCKING MOD ON IT DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I myself have two EVGA gtx 460's superclocked. If you get a GTX 460 overclock them both and they will out perform a 480 and will still be faster than a 580. Make sure to get the 1GB versions if you play with high resolutions and like alot of AA. I have yet to find a game they cant handle on 1920 x 1200
So in someone elses opinion if I have the choice between two brand new GTX 460's in SLI for $300 or one GTX 480 used for $300 which would you go for? Some people say the 480 LOOKS smoother even if the FPS is lower than the 460's, but I just don't know.
@Shintsu2 Here is my 100% honest opinion. I would get the GTX 460 SLI over the used GTX 480. Reasons; if your card is defective in any way, God forbid, the GTX 460s are easily replaceable, whereas the used GTX 480 you most likely won't get a replacement as easily. I would go with evga over any other brand because they have great tech support and warranty coverage. Also, they have a 90 day step up program so if your not satisfired, you can trade up. Hope this helps
@theomega831 The GTX 480 does have a warranty on it he say's he'd do any RMA if needed - but it's not like buying it yourself of course. I was looking at Zotac as the EVGA cards would be $360 as opposed to $300 for the same exact card and Zotac has lifetime warranty too. Do you ever notice any micro stuttering or anything? I used to have two GTX 260's in SLI but I don't remember if I saw it or not - I might have and just discredited my cards as "old" or something. Are all games really smooth?
@Shintsu2 Oh ok as long as there is some kind of warranty. I don't know much about Zotac, I've heard good things about them tho I haven't noticed any micro stuttering, and all games run super smooth, check out my other crysis vids for your self and tell me what you think.
@theomega831 Well from the videos they look good - but there's only so much a camera can pick up and sometimes the camera introduces stuff that's not there to your eyes. It looks like a few times that it maybe does some shearing in the middle (Do you have Vsync enabled or no?). I remember being PO'ed that with two GTX 260's in SLI I still couldn't play Crysis maxed out smoothly - I think I got like 20-30 FPS but it dipped too much. Have you OC'ed them any - and if so did it make a difference?
@Shintsu2 No there is no artifacts on screen, must be the camera lol. I have done some overclocking on the gpu, it does make a little difference but not mcuh really. The cards work real good together and stay below 55 c
@theomega831 After thinking it over heavily for about a day or two I think I'm gonna go with the two new GTX 460 1 GB editions. The videos showing just one seem to look amazing and two do seem to be really nice - even with no expandability afterwards they would hopefully be sufficient for at least a year and a half or more, and that's what I'm wanting. Are yours the 1 GB version or 768 MB?
@Shintsu2 Cool man you made the right choice, mine are the 768MB version. I am gonna upgrade once the GTX 500 series comes out or whatever they call it :P
@theomega831 They just released the GTX 580 yesterday - it's $560 though. I hoped it would make the price drop on the GTX 480 maybe - but no such luck, at least not right away. I'd at best maybe get the GTX 570 or 560 - but no clue when those versions would come out, and I'm using an old 6800 GT as a temp card right now - can't even watch full screen YouTube vids...yuck. Btw, what res are you running? What AA/AF settings do you typically use?
@Shintsu2 If I were you I would wait for the GTX560 and GTX 570 they come out in December. The GTX 560 is gonna be 15% to 30% faster than the GTX 460, thats just me. I was going to buy a gtx 460 just like your planning on doing but I decided to wait and go for the gtx 560 or wait for the 6970 which comes out on Nov.29.
@zn74 Well, I already bought my cards. They run really hot though - like almost 90*C under heavy load and 75-80*C under normal load. I have fine cooling, they just get too hot due to poor heatsink design. It would be quite hard to live on the temp card I was using - a 6800 Ultra...it couldn't even animate Mahjong Titans well or anything. Miserable...but I may return these anyway. The 560 will probably be too expensive anyway...like $300 for one, doubtable they'd be $250 or less...
@edtk99 I already returned them (Zotac cards) - I wouldn't recommend them as they were noisy and loud. I think I'm going to buy a Gigabyte GTX 460 SOC edition - dual fans and better heatsink layout. From what I saw, no one makes aftermarket heatsinks for GTX 460's. I can't see why I should need watercooling anyway since I was gettings temps of 74*C under load with a pair of GTX 260's and loads of 84*C generally with a pair of GTX 460's. I may just wait out for the GTX 560 though.
@edtk99 Try using a 6800 GT for weeks...I can't even play stuff like Mahjong Titans or anything on this computer. Windows Graphics index of 2.0...many people have talked about how the 560 isn't coming out any time soon because of the success of the 460. I used to have EVGA cards, I had to RMA one and after that I still had problems when playing Source based games with one of them crashing. And EVGA makes you PAY for their lifetime warranty now, very low IMO...
@theomega831 nah, I don't have that money and I've already finished both crysises
now I am looking for a Prolimatech Megahalems. Maybe next year in winter will sell the 5850 and buy some kind of 7850 or even nvidia. My graphics card is still strong
