  • Sei forte. Bravo. grazie per la tua abilità musicale, questa si che è melodia da ascoltare. Buona fortuna!

  • nice job--you have a lot of feeling for such a young pup--keep up the good work.

  • I love it. The touch, that blues feel, just great. And a great dance rythmm.

  • Dude, you're like that silent bob guy,but with awesome playin' skills.Keep on doing it! :)

  • Thank you for sharing your knowledge, you are a great teacher and performer,Awesome technique and performance, congratolations for that excellent work,Keep on playing like this.

  • Great playing, a really good rendition, you have great control and the tone is fabulous.

  • @doneaster Thank you. It is a cheap guitar, but it has alnico pickups. The Avalon pre amp helps too.

  • i have been playing these tunes for 50 yrs---and you play it with the feeling that it takes to pull these arrangements thru--where you get this feeling from i don't know cause your so young----can you play memory from the cats broadway musical--that would make me really respect your ability in expertise--let me know if you want to take on that challenge--steve

  • Very musical and definitely would like to hear your original tunes/etc.

  • cool dude

  • Rob you play like magic! I've played for 25 years and some of your stuff absolutely inspires me, ESPECIALLY the honky tonk country and chicken pickin videos. You've got a really nice 'teaching mannerism' too! Please keep posting!!!

Check out Carlene Carter's YT video "I Fell in Love" with Albert Lee playing guitar; you'll love it. Then do a cover of it and post it for me please! You rock!!!

  • You should have worn that shirt for "Blue Hawaii" Haha...good job man!

  • hey, what size?

  • @juanelobird75 It's a Les Paul type, but cheap.

  • Seeing you play keeps me humble

  • @gibson9680 Thank you for the compliment. I saw your playing, and you seemed to have a lot to be proud about.

  • Wonderful Rob ! How you play this song without looking, is very impressive. Beautiful touch, such expression, you must keep playing for the enjoyment of the rest of the world.

  • hey, I'm falling in love with you man, I don't need words, i'm just seen your expression about your eyes, is very incredible, man, your virtuos, and genious, thanks man for this good musical moment. peace and love.

  • I always look spaced out when I wear headphones. A mixture of confusion and exhaustion is usually mistaken for expression. I am so tired by the time all the kids are in bed, and I can start doing videos.

Thanks for the kind words though.

  • Excellent tone and emulation of the lap steel. You nailed it! I play the Chet Atkins version. Bravo! Very nice!!!

  • Thanks.

I'll have to hear you some day.

  • Dido OldEphram1,there is no time left for me to get kind of playing down, always been dreaming and probly always will, say good night Gracy

  • That's what heaven is for. That's where I will be rich, instead of being a poor musician.

And all of the accountants will play like virtuosos.

  • Aaaaaahhhhhh, the 60's are here again. I remember the dances, the ladies......... and the heartaches. What a great time that was.

    Thanks for the memories.

  • best cover very smooth good job

  • What beautiful bending! Amos G. at his best!

  • Perfect, you have a great touch ,and great feel, my compliment ,Kees Nipius.

  • Thanks.

  • One of the best versions I've ever heard!

  • Fantastic!!

    Amazing tone and sound!!!

  • Grande interpretacion =)

    felicidades

  • I am only 16 and i just got into this type of music

    I love playing this song

    but i ask you

    what key is it in?

because i cant fgure it out i just play

    But amazing dude!

  • the chord changes i use are C major A minor F minor then G major the just start the progression again so it starts off in c

  • This tune hit the airwaves fifty years ago this fall. I remember as I was there! You do the song proud for us oldtimers. Thanks.

  • Thank you very much.

  • amazing man.

  • Hi Rob ,I am thinking of getting an Italia guitar can I ask what you take on this guitar is (i.e anything that a working musician might like or dislike live).Love the playing and also your choice of song.Take care.Joe

  • great cover, not so suer on the shirt! :)

  • Most out of shape, middle aged American guys with beards wear Hawaiian shirts. It is a way of hiding their rotund belly, and remaining cool. Not cool as in fashionable. LOL

I have never been to Hawaii, or even tried surfing. I do love surf and turf though, and need to lay off the extra portions. I am on a diet, and have lost 13 pounds in the last week, and plan on buying a new shirt when I can wear it tucked in, without looking like Archie Bunker.

Thanks for the music compliment though Steve.

  • hi Rob, I really enjoyed this one. what I especially do like here is how you create that sort of languid steel guitar feel on a standard guitar and not even using a slide or bottle neck. just relaxed and true musical playing always obviously knowing perfectly well what you're doing. I truly wish I too had that ability, but alas...

  • I wish I had a steel guitar. I try my best to get the sound, but I should break down and buy one.

  • yeah, maybe you should. but that's quite some money you'll have to spend for a decent one... for myself I declined from even getting a lap steel, because then I'd most certainly neglect the standard guitar. bad thing if you know you still have to learn a lot there! but that obviously doesn't apply to you. however, you might neglect doing new standard guitar vids, which would be indeed a bad thing for us aspiring followers of you standard arts...

  • You can really feel the music that is what I truly admire about your playing and this is why I keep coming back and not only watching but enjoying your videos and I often return to watch the same videos over and over again. I better stop now too much approval is not good for you ;)

  • Thanks. I love this tune. I wish I had a steel guitar. Maybe next year.

    Take care.

    Rob

  • wow, this is amazing , my dad (dave wheelhouse) recorded this when his was 19 on the pedal steel , what a tune , can i ask you what key you are in (chords?).

    thanks dude

  • Thanks.

I'm in D. I think the original was in C. It was recorded on steel originally, I just made it a bit different.

  • I know a hard-rockin blues guy on the east coast that does a great slide version on his 12 string Rickenbacker...Oh by the way--your version is extremely tastey!!nice and clean---Sam&Dave Live On!!

  • great cover

  • You must get SICK of hearing this, but bub, you are FANTASTIC. Supremely talented. Please record and sell to us mere mortals.

  • I am the most mortal of all. I don't have the organizational skills needed to market anything right now. I am trying to get it together though.

    Thanks.

  • this was in labamba when they found out ritchie died , that sad, but i love the song

  • Awesome Rob! And thanks for all the lesson videos! -Denny

  • Hi Rob, That was beautiful. You are the best.//Phil

  • Geez, Rob. I really like that. Tasty, with a capital T.

  • Thanks Doc.

  • Wow, Rob that was great! I used to figure skate to this song. I love it so much and listening to you play it brought back lots of good memories.

    Sure do miss you!

  • Master at work ,fantastic controlled bends

  • Smooth as silk, Rob! I haven't thought about this song in ages. Too cool.

Love the guitar, BTW. Great tone.

    Targuit (Jay)

  • nice...very smooth sounding

  • AMAZING!!! As always :)

  • I like very much your version sound cool!******

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • Wow, you've done a great job with this!

I have a cover of setzer's version up if you want to watch it...

Just curious - what kinda gear are you using in this recording?

  • Its an Italia Marinello run through an Avalon VT373SP. I played a Zimnicki flat top for rhythm, and used a German Warwick bass.

  • hey what do you think of that guitar?! i wanted to get a red maranello because they're kinda made to resemble the old goya hagstrom guitars, witch but i havent heard anyone play one. would you recomend them?

  • It plays great. I would say that it is the easiest playing and best sounding guitar for the money I have seen. They may not all be the same.

  • I love this, Rob...Such a soothing piece. Thank you :)

  • Absolutely beautiful, Rob!

  • Lovely. The tone is beautiful and it is really nice to hear a melodic improvised version (that doesn't go too far out jazzy either). I am not that fond of that Setzer version, it just doesn't sound like sleep walking to me. :D

Plus your guitar looks VERY '60s.

  • I'll show the back of it sometime. Mother of Toilet Seat. Very ugly. I do love the sound and playability though.

  • Very nice Rob...I've been following the lessons in your new course...hope to one day play that well. Smooooooth!

    Don

  • Thanks Don,

I will get to some technique exercises later on, so I hope you can stay tuned.

  • nice tone. Haven't seen that guitar in your videos before.

  • This guitar is an import. It has alnico magnets and a great neck design, with lots of sustain. It is ugly as sin. I love it.

  • WOW-That's so pretty. That was nice to hear at 6:00 A.M. Thanks.

  • I just recorded it a few hours earlier.

  • XOXOXOXOXOXOXOOX
