You could teach, but you are right about teaching art- the jobs are few and very far between. I have an MFA in painting, and I graduated after Reagan did his cuts to the arts. The colleges followed suit and cut back on art classes. Hence no jobs.

I go to SVA in new york city, on of the best art programs in the country, and do my own art when i am not working my ass off :)
