I know this is totally random but did you know hair is actually dead cells? The live hair is in our scalp covered by the hair follicle...the dead cells are pushed to the surface so producing hair. LoL sorry about this...I just find that cool and a little funny. The movie is pretty funny though. Liked it enough to buy it. I felt like it was a bit biased on somethings though.
Brian Perry is the master behind those creations and is my hairstylist. You can find him on the corner of pico and la brea in LA and trust....he is worth it!!!!
@ezekielthemack not that bad tbh it is widely accepted most people wear extensions hell even 80% of the white people i know now wear them, its not bg deal and its nothing to be ashamed of its just a hairdo nothing more
naturally i have long hair anyway i do it for thickness contrary to the belief i apparently dont know who i am...
it is so ridiculous white ppl can wear wigs and extensions and not get a spanish inquisition while blck women get put on trial and apparently are ashamed if we do.
@imwithstoopid1 "80% percent of white people"? Stop pulling facts out of your ass. 80% of BW wear extensions, about 20% (at most) of WW wear extensions. And you'll notice that the hair that whites are extending their hair with is the texture of their OWN European hair. The same CANNOT be said of BW. I rest my case.
@ezekielthemack did i say the whole white population? I think not, i said white people i KNOW. ok granted there you do have a point HOWEVER, how does a dump of dead cells on your head determine your identity? i am a person thoroughly secure in herself but would rather spend 2 hours getting a perm or weave than sit for 6 hours and plait my hair, it all goes down to the indiviual to me not shame in ones identity =/ whatevers on my head im still me.
@imwithstoopid1 I didn't MENTION ALL white people. You clearly do not know many white people, because weaves in the white community are the EXCEPTION - not the rule. In the black community it is the complete opposite - end of story. I rest my case.
@ezekielthemack siigh you have not listened to a thing i have said ¬¬...you seem resolute on your idea that women only perm their hair due to some sort of an identity crisis..sigh i give up
@imwithstoopid1 I'm white and I don't think there is anything wrong with black girls wanting long hair. Its part of being female. Some chicks like it short. But they are usually gay. Most girly girls like long hair. When black women go for it, I don't see them as wanting to be 'white'. I just see them as wanting a length of hair to work with and doll up just like a normal woman. Besides, we white are not the only ones with hair. The Indians, Mexicans etc...
@imwithstoopid1 Sorry but its like telling a bald 25 year old guy that just b/c he lost his hair and every male in his family does, he shouldn't do anything about it and just be proud b/c its part of his genes. Thats stupid and totally unfair. With all the things that can be done today for hair, its kinda mean to deliver that mind frame. Its human nature to want hair. Especially normal for a female. Screw race. Where does that even enter??!!!
@LoveMokes noo thats not what i meant at all.. i think you may have misunderstood my point =/ and i see nothing wrong in doing whatever the hell you want to your hair/head because it shouldnt..in my opinion be your whole identity, hair is just an outer part of you and what you do with it is your perrogative regardless of race yes. I just think that to accuse people of having some form of identity crisis because they want to perm their hair is ludacris. its just hair.
i hate hair dressers and perms..i knew tht shit wasnt fully human hair..cuz if u go to the beach ..the hair is f'd up...normal indian peoples hair...doesn't look like tht ishh
I don't get it. I've been to a hairdresser a total of 3 times in my life. There are a whole bunch of us and we all have different textures. When I younger, I just twisted it until it was dry. After 24 hours it would relax on its own. When blow dryers came out it would take me 2 hours to blow dry my hair. Now I don't blow dry it but let it air dry. I wouldn't waste my time. Wear a wig if you want a particular style. All that stuff just ruins and tears what you already have.
I feel like nothing positive is going to come out of this movie, hopefully im wrong because usually chris rock does something like this & puts a message at the end. and i REALY hope its not that same old "go natural" bs!
This is deeper then hair, it's about the self-esteem...not just in America, but all over the African Diaspora. I went natural when I was 18 and everyone disapproved. Our hair holds us hostage! I don't let my hair rule me...I rule my hair! I have a relaxer, if I feel like wearing braids, or going natural I will.
God gave us our hair 4 a reason...in the heat hair that is coyly provides better protection from the sun, in Africa we need it. Yes its true hairstyle is a choice. However, the reason the movie was created is because we have such a problem with our natural hair in the black community.
Gosh when are we going stop making hair a issue! As black people we have bigger, fundamental issues to worry about than HAIR!! Good hair is HAVING HAIR..PERIOD!! Whether it's natural or chemical, have your hair the way YOU want it. If hair is a personal thing for you, then do some research and ask yourself why you have your hair the way it is.
see the trick is to know how to style and handle black hair. If we learn to embrace the nappyness. we wouldn't be running to get weaves all the time,. putting money in the chinese pockets, they ain't stupid.
Well, the black male version could consist of the black man's obsession with "dogs" aka waves. Carrying the brush everywhere, wearing du-rags all day and wearing their hair extremely short compared to the men of ALL other races.

Are you kidding me??? There IS no black male equivalent as 95% of black men tend to have fades, dreads and wear their hair natural, you seldom see a black man with processed hair, it's just not prevalent in the black community, so I don't know what on earth you are talking about. You are obviously very young and dumb.
Yeah, black men might go to an extreme to either keep their waves fresh and as deep as possible, or just trying to make some appear, but black MEN aren't the biggest customers for hair products. It's black WOMEN who are spending entire paychecks. I've rarely seen a black man with damaged hair, rarely. Matter of fact, their hair grows longer than black women a lot of times, because they're not putting a whole bunch of mess in it. What you're talking about is more of personal vanity.
What I mean by personal vanity, is just a person doing it simply because they want to. Black women are on a different level. Black men don't give a damn (for the most part) on whether or not they gotta cut their hair, especially if that means a new paycheck. Black women have problems with healthy hair because most of the time we're trying to buy into a standard (un and subconsciously). And if you decide to be natural you have to fight the system. I know black guys have issues, but not like us.
There are men who get their hair cut in low ceasars or Ivory Lee haircuts to hide their texture. Men don't wear weaves because Men aren't seen as more masculine if their hair is longer but, in society women aren't seen as feminine without hair which is why they wear weave. Men get S-Curls and even relaxers themselves to wear conrows. So this isn't just a female thing. Men like women with long hair even if it's weave. & men who spends thousands on cars & clothes instead of houses etc.
What kind of stupid assertion is that?!! MOST black men of today wear their hair natural, a good 90% in fact, whether it's dreads, fades or 'fros. Stop pulling facts out of your ass you sound silly. The converse is that appx. 85%-90% of black women have adopted the weave as their "natural" look. Case Closed. *rolls eyes* What an idiot you are!!!!
Get off youtube you transexual jackass and take your insipid shaming tactics (and weave) with you you. Don't test me, I'm too smart for you - as I've previously shown all of the foolish BW on this page.
