  • I can't believe his kick serve kicks up that much

  • What racquet is he using?

  • so hd it feels like i can touch his adam's apple

  • I love how everyones heads turn at the same time :/

  • i just love his forehand

  • Andy Who ;)

  • he can´t win with this fuckin racket....

    play babolat for the win!!

  • くしゃみ・・・so cute!!!!!!!!

  • murray is such a whiner, everyone thinks he's the next whoever even tho he has done nothing. if he would act like fed, nadal, del po, or roddick on and off court id have no problem but he doesnt so i do.

  • @neverendingconversat roddick? he may have won a slam but he's a one trip pony, he's done nothing else and is a veteran who just exists on court. he cant break anyone, he lost against one of the worst off form players Berdych at the WTF. Murray has potential and has not reached his peak..

  • @ArjunJethwa he's got one more major than your boy murray has. and every major he doesnt win is just going to add to the pressure, he should quit now

  • @1234funsies earlier in his career yes but now he is more agressive, and murray has always been the same pusher

  • 3:09...

  • Andy Murray, the best!! :)

  • @DillonSinghBasi false statement

  • he is just a pusher

  • @frinxblvs nadal pushes much more than murray

  • @1234funsies he also wins much more than murray

  • @frinxblvs clearly you havent watched any of his ao 2010, shanghai, toronto or WTF matches...

  • He's always been a good hitter, but not a great champion. How many more times can he blame his coaches

  • anyone have any tips, i have a two handed backhand and after every hit i look up at my ball and its spinning sideways. i tried to fix it to have top spin but no matter what it always ends up either no spin or sidespin... any help?

  • he's a one slam wonder just like delpo

  • @tennisproderek he's got to win one first. and if delpo gets healthy he'll be back.

  • i want that black fred perry cotton tee.. anyone have a link?

  • @factiongregory no you dont, only dusters where that. im trying to save you right now

  • i honestly think he has the best forehand

  • Thank you.

  • Like Roger said, Murray is way too good not to win a slam yet. Its gonna be hard bouncin back from such an effort at the Aussie open and losing in the finals. Hope he takes the 2010 US OPEN. He deserves it. Or even better... Wimbledon..? OR EVEN BOTH!!!? (Nah thats crazy talk . Fed is definately gonna take one of them).

  • Feds or Nadal to win French open.

  • Will, is murray hitting with roddick here? the way the guy hits looks like it's roddick, just trying to see if my guess is right

  • lmao its not roddick

  • Definitely not Roddick.

  • hah no, not even close...it just his practise partner, he doesnt look or play anything like roddick

  • i think i see anna ivanovic on the next court

  • Anybody Know what grip he uses on the forehand?? Thanks

  • western

  • semi for most

    sometimes modified eastern

Depends on wind, court, and shot

  • good for you...

  • 1: 10

Murray uses sneeze for power on his overhead

  • @federerfanguy lol.. ;-)

  • fucking long ass backswing

  • his forehand looks simple but effective.i want to buy his forehand lol

  • nice shot at 3:06

  • who is he hitting with

  • It looks like he's hitting with Ross Hutchins British Davis Cup doubles player

  • very nice serve

  • His strokes look so natural. What's with all the hate for him? He has to be a good player if he's in the top 5.

  • Agree with you...a lot of people from my club say that they don't like him and personaly i am a big fan of his and his style . My forehand and serve kinda looks like his , don't know why but still working on my backhand ...i suck so hard at hitting hard and long backhands constantly

  • think of your backhand like a golf swing, if your using a 2 handed backhand

  • 2H yes...it's better right now

  • shouldnt pushing a lot makes it more exciting?

  • Comment removed

  • murray's game isnt too exciting cause he pushes a lot but whatever i guess it works for him

  • I love watching Murray play. He is the most watchable player since Agassi. His grit and determination, plus sheer hard work will drive him further. Great champions are about outstanding talent and relentless work. Murray is a grafter and has tennis genius.

  • although unlike agassi murray lacks the personality it wouldn't kill him to smile once in a while

  • You can say the same about Nadal and Federer they dont smile while at work either........funny that.

  • Federer does not loss well and thats not a nice feature to have. Murray is very passionate in what he does, and he was burnt by the media so he keeps i strickly business. You should watch the clips on the Hopman cup, different Murray there. Nothing wrong with tthe Scots, amazing people in fact. Funny helpful and would give you their last. Andy has a great dry sense of humor and does like a good laugh. You just dont know him. Maybe you should before you tar the guy.

  • I can't comment. I don't really know the guy....just see him on court and tv every so often.

  • lol at the sneeze at 1:11

  • Murray sucks, like Nadal !

  • Your future NO1 get used to it.

  • you forgot about rafa

  • andy murray is the most exciting tennis player around.......its amazing how jealous some men are of him. Hes gorgeous, funny, dry and witty.

  • videoing this guy is simply waste of time and energy. his plays are so boring

  • He looks surprisingly human.

  • He is

  • no offense ..but i think his hitting partner aint good enough for him.. lol.. kinda sad

  • not at all true. he is a very solid (hitting Partner).

  • Can he win wimbeldon 2009

  • doubt it... think fed's going to take it

  • i don't know man roddick is doing preety well too.

since he is in the finals, it;s going to be a interesting match.

although fed has won most of the time aginst roddick.

  • @FYB2007 haha good prediction

  • @4golfonline doubt it rafa is going to win:P

  • Can he win wimbeldon 2009

  • what forehand grip does andy murray use ?

  • We can never be 100% sure until we actually ask him, but he most probably uses a semi-western grip like most of the ATP Pros.

  • it is eastern completely

you can look at close ups of the grip

  • there is no technical term for it but its like a semi eastern

  • Look in the bachground it's Toni Nadal in orange dress.

  • looks more like Fed's dad than it does Toni

  • thank you folks, that helped me really a lot! I really appreciate so many good comments from experts like most of you seem to be! :-)

  • boooo! get of the stage!

  • What is his FH grip_? Semi western? Or he changes it on ocasion?

  • Djokovic and Nadal have better backhands than Federer, and if that is your point of disagreement then I'm sorry I have no way to actually prove it to you except to encourage you to watch Djokovic and Nadal play, as well as players such as Berdych, Safin, and others that I've previously mentioned. Federer's backhand is not a weapon. Djokovic employs his backhand as a weapon.

  • Nice scenery. Where was this taken ??

  • We've got a few on our website -- FuzzyYellowBalls

  • he jumps when he does his drive...isn't that bad?

  • one handed backhand. Pros: more feel for the ball, feel for the slice backhand, elements of surprise (its hard to know if you change direction)

Cons: high ball results in slice + you need to train more to hit 1 handed (train both shoulders)

  • also murray real goes across his body with the backhand. maybe its just this video but he doesnt really lift up that much as compared to say agassi or nadal, he kinda goes straight through

  • its nice to see even the pros make lazy misses sometimes like at :37. the reason i think there are so few one handed backhands is when kids start playing when they are young they are taught (or automatically) use two hands on that side and then grow used to it. passing crosscourt short angle on the run is a real bitch with a one hander compared to two hander

  • a general question to the tennis experts here: do you think the two-handed backhand is superior compared to the one handed backhand in modern tennis? and is federer just the exception that proves the rule?

  • no not superior -- each has it's strengths and weaknesses.

  • interesting, I would like to learn more on this topic... do you know where I can find something on that?

  • @FYB2007 can u list a few of both ?

  • can you please explain the pros and cons of use one handed backhand? thanks :)

  • Two-handed backhands are easier to hit for most high balls.

Two-handed backhands can be hit with an open stance, whereas one-handers usually have to have a closed stance, which adds further steps (which is a problem at higher levels of play).

  • But:

    One-handed backhands allow greater reach.

One-handed backhands are able to hit low balls with much pace and penetration.

One-handed backhands are generally more powerful since the hitting hand is free to swing into the shot with no hindering elements.

One-handed backhand players move to the net with greater ease than two-handed players because the shot permits greater forward momentum and has greater similarities in muscle memory to the preferred type of backhand volley

  • Mysterie, I have to disagree on some points. The two-handed backhand can generate significantly more power than the one handed shot because it is much easier to generate racket-head speed with two hands. The one-hander might be more whip-like and therefore it might appear powerful, but it's more difficult to hit through the ball with a one-handed backhand, and whippy topspin is not power.

Furthermore, I'd rather have the quick response of an open stance than a slightly broader reach.

  • No, the one hander is generally more powerful if it's hit in the comfort zone, it's very difficult to hit powerful shots with a one hander when your contact point is high. That is easier with a tow hander.

  • I still disagree. Two-handers enjoy a good bit more power no matter what the contact zone is. Safin, Agassi, Berdych, Tsonga, Nadal, Nalbandian, Murray, all make weapons out of their backhands -- weapons, not just consistent shots. The power these guys can generate comes from holding the racket with two hands. Gasquet is the only player I can think of with a really consistently good one-handed backhand, and that's only because his forehand is considerably lacking.

  • True that two-handers typically have more power than one-handers. Gasquet is not an exception because of his forehand (which granted can be erratic, but not lacking), but rather because he emulates the massive hip rotation that two-handers employ to generate power.

  • I agree with advancedtennis here. What HBNplague is saying is that two-handers generate their power by holding the racket with two hands. however the reason for power with either of the backhands is the torso rotation, which is what advancedtennis said

  • Players with one handed backhands will often get confused over the mechanism of the supporting arm moving backwards while the hitting arm moves forwards. This is intended to keep the shoulders somewhat stationary, but a proper top-spin backhand will always incorporate plenty of hip rotation, one hand or two.

The result of this confusion is a considerable percentage of weak one-handed backhands, even at the professional level (Lopez, for example).

  • i disagree, federer also does a one- handed backhand and has a very powerful one, even stronger than nadal's or djokavic's i would say, and he wins a lot of his shots with his backhand,

you don't need to put a lot of topspin on a one-handed backhand, you could drive it at an angle if you wanted

  • The reason there are so many two handed backhands on tour is because most/all of the players went to tennis academies full time, and started out at age 14 or below. Most young kids don't want to change their backhand (go through the 2 year process) since they need the rankings at age 15 or so. This doesn't mean the one handed backhand has limitations, it's just a result of the process most pros have learned tennis

  • Then why are the coaches at all these top academies teaching their students two-handed backhands? Certainly at age 14 and with today's 8 or 9 oz tennis rackets the kids are strong enough to hit the ball with one hand, so the fact that they can't handle it at a young age isn't really an option. So if the one handed backhand really doesn't have limitations, why do the top coaches at the top academies teach their students the two-hander?

  • good question. ask gasquet

  • The two-hander seems better in today's tennis because of the ammount of topspin that players use on their strokes is increasing. Two handers are more consistent and better at higher bouncing balls, look at federer's backhand when he plays nadal.

  • Yeah...but look at when he plays well...EVERYONE ELSE.

  • But that's not the only reason of course.

  • The one-hander is simply more difficult to master. McEnroe has labelled the two-hander more of a forehand than a backhand.

The one-hander is actually learned at a later age due to a child's physiology. So yes, the time to master factor can be a con.

Lastly, Gasquet may have a more powerful backhand, but i think Wawrinka's backhand is better.

  • very nice background with the mountains!

  • ahahaha makes me laugh that you look at the backrground :P

  • I've noticed it also in the oder vids, must have been a very nice atmosphere there, especially at sunset! :-)

  • Shot at 3:08 was insane

  • Who is the other guy? He has some strange shots :D

  • i play tennis just like murray im from ja

  • He uses a lot of Windshield forehands huh?

  • Many players use windshield forehands because it allows you to control more elements of the placement, like height and depth. Sometime Federer uses very loopy forehands right into the corners that are tricky to time the return to.

  • If you watch any of his matches, you'd agree that Murray is probably the best defensive player in the tour. If his offensive game catches up he'll be unimaginably good.

  • Naw, Nadal is the master of defensive tennis. Murry can volley like a champ though.

  • Yes Nadal made a name for himself through he defense. But his defense is more of a grinder type where he runs down every ball no matter where his opponent may place them, a very physical defense. Murray is more of an anticipator, he knows where the ball will be placed and his knowledge comes into play more, more of a tactician. I terms of ground game, Nadal is more powerful and has that immense topspin with his more recent flat hitting, which is why he is currently number 1.

  • I'd agree Murray, uses plenty of tactics. Mostly to draw his opponents towards the net. One of his best tactics is when he intentionally hits a weak approach shot towards the side of court and forces the opponents to hit the ball back towards the center...And of course, Murray right in center of the net ready for the slam. He's the beast at the net and is probably the best net player in world.

  • Federer was number one longer and has more grand slam titles than Nadal so shouldn't he be the beast? Your arguement makes no sense.

  • its a stupid thing to say becasue ur being stubborn

you dont need to win more grand slam titles

that means roger federer is a beast because he won more or pete sampras

  • Comment removed

  • i was watching him today at miami...lots of people doesn't like him because he doesn't give a big show playing....in fact i think he's a great player but it's kinda boring to watch his matches...

  • that is a stupid thing and bias thing to say

  • Can you download this video?

  • yeah download youtube downloader at download(.)com

  • Murray's got a HUGE kick serve; even in practice...

That extra 35lbs of muscle makes a big difference. I was always convinced that the Microgel racquets recquire a high level of strength to use. But, I think this kind of confirms my theory. I think Richard Gasquet should do the same thing as well.

  • I agree with you too, but what do you mean when that extra 35lbs of muscle makes a big difference?

  • Well in theory, I believe that Murray's increase of strength has allowed him to put more spin and power behind his shots.

I use the Microgrel Extreme Pro and I could not fully bring out my potential with the topspin and power until I started lifting weights. My 1 hand backhand really sucked as well because of the weak back and shoulder muscles I had at the time...

  • Ahhh ok i see what you mean. Thanks a lot for the info
