They say it could be a psychopath or just a medical student prankster, if the bones are from different people, but the investigation is ongoing (in the past of course, I don't know what happened after that).

Actually, Watashi can be for males or females, but Boku is only for males. For males, Boku is very informal, while you would use watashi in buisness deals, transactions, etc. For females, they just use watashi. So yeah, Light could use watashi, he just chooses not to, as L is not his superior, therefore he is being informal.
