I think I can divide the legion of crappy music into eras:
First wave (1994-2000) - Boybands and girlbands
Second wave (2001-2004) - First generation of slutwave, derived from the works of the Spice Girls, and some of No Doubt's Rock Steady album
Third wave (2005-2007) - Consists of songs from Gwen Stefani's solo career and songs inspired by them
Fourth wave (2008-2011) - Started by Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, and Katy Perry

@HiCallMeShadow I somehow agree with you, but it's not just rock that went downhill. It's every genre that went downhill. All you have to do is to infuse the sound with pop beats to make it more commercial. I have been listening to songs from a variety of genres and still updating my best and worst songs list. Check out my latest 2 videos for my best and worst songs of 2011 in my opinion. In my opinion, the only good post-80's bands to emerge are Evanescence and to a lesser extent, The Corrs.

But that's something that will probably not happen today, since nowadays music industry cares more about selling that music itself. So, we just have to wait untill some musical genius appears.
