  • I just sorta...played this game when I was 4. It didn't make that much sense to me. Running running running running...what's the point of all this? Then I would play Yars' Revenge.

  • @MidnightWonko Haha yeah same here except I was about 6.

  • This was G4 back in the 70's

  • wow this was super high tech back then...loved playing this game even though i sucked at it

  • man i saw a t shirt of pitfall at a shop 2 days ago and memories of my first pentium 1 windows computer came rushing back. needless to say i bought that shirt

  • Cooler than Call of Duty it's unreal.

  • This is the best thing ever.

  • Nice.

  • it was graphically stunning for it's time guys, duuh lol

  • This game is good. Atari 2600 is a good console. Thumbs up if you like Atari.

  • lol graphically stunning

  • thumbs up if ray sended you here

  • @fatjack2b what? o.o

  • @fatjack2b dude thats not all! listen: 0:41 - 0:42!

  • @WildWouterO wait, did he just say =3?

  • @fatjack2b yeah XD

  • must find pitfall.

  • Shitfall

  • 255? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

  • This game put Activision on the map. Although many 2600 games were total duds, it was amazing to see what some adept developers were able to do despite the 2600's meager graphics capabilities and memory limitations.

This was the premiere adventure game

  • I loved that part where you could find all that gold and cash

  • i used to love this game i had it on the Atari way back in the early 90's,good old days.

  • first game i ever played

  • @ianslifeshow same,this and Doom 1 and 2

  • awesome!

  • this is super mario bros without the boxes and no killing things

  • you dunno da pitfall!

  • Loved South Parks parody of this.

  • i like the noise he makes when he swings on the rope

  • @siti1ca

sounds like a giraffe getting raped........ :|

  • @siti1ca tarzan yell

  • @catfacecathead oh god is that what its supposed to be?

I would have never guessed that

    hahahahaha

  • @siti1ca You young whippersnappers don't know how good you have it - in my day we recognized that as a tarzan yell and marvelled at the amazing achievement in sound reproduction!

  • @catfacecathead sad thing is, we are probably the same age. i grew up in the 80's

its just the quality was so bad i never recognized it as Tarzan!

    hahahahaha

but thank god i grew up in the 80's best time ever

  • pitfall is more best of forza 3 graphics ahahhhaahah

  • Its funny how the Wii Ware game Bit.Trip Runner makes fun of this game by having bonus levels that look exactly like this. PLUS Rainbow wich in this case is only on the package seen

  • Awesome game. I played it on Atari when I was a boy, and I managed to achieve the full score (114000, I think). Once I got the last treasure, the frame froze, at 0:07 to go. I felt very James Bond :-)

I still remember how to start. You run to the right, take the first treasure, run back to the opening frame, go down the ladder, run left, go up the ladder, run right one frame, go down the ladder, and continue to run left.

Jeez, that was more than 25 years ago!

  • bloody hell....this takes me back to being 7 again, going to the local petrol station to hire this game.pitfall was a sick game.

  • sick!! used to play this at my gramps' house. the best in 4bit gaming. and ya, tomb raider was still swimming in daddys' sac when this came out. yes ... 80's.

  • game's graphics these days suck ass.

  • Watching this I feel like I am actually trudging through the Mayan jungles. There have been no games with graphics this good before or since.

  • This is just a rip off of Tomb Raider

  • @AdzTurner seeing as this was made before tome radier ever existed i dont think so

  • @AdzTurner Are you a retard?

  • Was this video made in the 80's?

  • Friends, friends.. rejoice...I give you --- for free --- Pitfall 3..... That's right! just look on Youtube for Cliffall a Pitfall tribute by idealsoft and follow the link to download the game. I'm not kidding. I made the game my self and it's way way better than that famicon/later NES, Super Pitfall attempt by the japanese developers at micronics.

  • I wish the ps3 had this graphical power.

  • good old days, grew up with this game

  • HOLY FUCK I NEVER KNEW YOU COULD GO LEFT. WHAT THE FUCK MY MIND IS BLOWN TO SMITHEREENS.

No wonder I sucked at this game. I couldn't even get past the 3 crocodiles. I was about 5 years old though. I was still a noob.

  • The possibility to go left IS mentioned in the manual..

  • Pitfall's graphics, there are no words.

Look at the Detail, all the CRISP...VEGETATION

  • pitfall is a graphically stunning game

  • @zeroleminski well, I am somewhat stunned

  • THUG2's Arcade Games Have These Sound Effects!

  • Wow , this guy sounded like he's writing a doctorate on the game ...

  • Mr. Rogers played video games?

  • activision has always been making good games

  • Look at those graphics, its amazing how the legs move

  • I also played this game (and other old Atari games) back in 1989-1994ish. They were still sort of fun back then, even though the PC games of the time blew them away graphically. Don't bash old games just because of their graphics. =D

  • Graphically stunning! My jesus we've come along way!

  • Pitfall > Crysis

    Pitfall > Killzone 2

Pitfall > Gears of War 2

    lol

  • @macintochfan I'm with u

  • @macintochfan thats correct :)

  • @macintochfan Pitfall>Everything Else>A piece of dog shit>Call of Duty

  • where can I play this game online?

  • Look for a brazilian website called "jogosdeatari"

(the address begins with three "w" and ends with "com", followed by ".br")

  • In order to play the games you'll have to have Java Runtime Environment installed on your PC. If you don't have Java, go to the java website, download and install it, first.

The address begins with three "w", followed by ".java" and then ".com"

  • LMAO the tarzan sound...bloody classic. I'm 24 now I must of played this when I was 5...hadnt a clue what i was doing just enjoyed playing it.

I used to pretend the man was farting when he got hit by those rolling logs because he squats down and that noise. Hahahaha

  • If You're only 24, why were you playing this when your were 5?! They certainly had better games than this in 1990 like..Street Fighter 2. lol

  • I was playing the Atari before the Nintendo console came out.....when street fighter and shit came out I was hooked!!!! The Atari then seemed like a piece of shit when compared. Still, great memories!

  • this is from 1982

  • NES Is Better.

  • Well it should be, the NES had 7 years on the 2600 and video games developed FAST from the late 70's through the 80's.

In another 7 years we went from Karate Champ (NES) to Mortal Kombat.

  • If you're playing this game online, I know how to go left, but not jump off a rope, climb up and down, or move right. How can I do so?

  • activision has been around for this long? wow

  • try Cross Board Soccer, its more shooting and more fun !!!

  • I always recognized that the next underground screen and the next above ground scene didn't match, but I had no idea that underground took you 3 screens. I played this game for years, and had no idea what I was doing until now.

  • Cheers you've just taken me back 25 years, this game was such good fun to play back in the day, the 2600 was the king of the games machines back then.

  • Oh my God, I didn't see this game at 20 years, one of the best games that I've played

  • in 1982 IT REALLY WAS graphically stunning.

  • CROCODILES: YOUR WORST ENEMY

  • AAAAH i used to play Pitfall: the mayan adventure :')

  • i LOVE how simple it was back then (well, we see it simple now). x scenes right, go down, then up...

and there were vhs released on how to or previews! i have lots of videos like this on vhs. so many memories...

i kept reading all the magazines and i dreamed about having every game. kind of the same as today... but way much misterious at that time, since the industry wasn't that big yet (16 bit era).

  • I love the fuzzy Tarzan sound. I feel it took me some imagination to figure that out.

  • omg i used to LOVE to play pitfall when i was younger. hey, this IS graphically stunning for the 70's people! this game is like a billion years old. this was probably as graphically stunning as it got back then.

  • nice, but he's way too slow with the crocks! i would of gone way faster :P i saw this on south park

  • i remember it too... :) in episode 0608 - "Red Hot Catholic Love".

ColecoVision is also mentioned in episode 0210 - "Chickenpox"... ( which i just watched :) )

  • I actually just got this game for my Atari 2600, and it's still a ton of fun. And the graphics are quite good compared to other 2600 games. The guy in the video sucks at jumping crocs. Once you are on the safe spot of the crocs head, you can jump on the rest with or without waiting for their mouths to close. Of course you can cross them all in one go without stopping, but it's easy to screw up so I avoid it.

  • omg how old is this guy now? is he old?

  • Originally released in 1982.

  • That guy does not know what he's talking about. You go down the first ladder, then go left the rest of the game. When you rise at the fire, go right then go down again. You'll get the money bag a lot quicker.

I can jump all 3 of those crocs when their mouths are closed only once.

  • Those holes look like giand vaginas Oo

  • lol, this looks pretty cool, im only 16 so i don't know what its like to play any of the games before the ps1 but im gonna get activision hits remixed for my psp, which has this on it :D

  • graphicly stunning all right, fucking looked like real life

  • i loved this when i was a kid

  • graphically stunning! xD ROFL

  • I loled when he said "Graphically stunning" as well, although back then it was stunning.

  • This was the first game I ever played, I think I was 4 years old. Amazing game.

  • looks quite boring

  • Do anybody know what website I should go to play Pitfall, Please Reply, Thankyou!^_^

  • you can buy the "tv games"with it and like7 other games

  • I think at google and then search and bingo!

  • wait, wait, graphically stunning??

anyway, those crocs were pretty easy, and his way is pretty....odd.

when the mouths are closed you can jump them all three if you're quick. if you're precise you can just jump on their heads despite the open jaw.

never understood the onderground stuff though..

  • It was graphically stunning at the time, remember, in the 70's, they did NOT have the source engine.

  • This game was from the 80's, dumbass

  • The system was from the 70's, asswipe.

  • I hope they put Atari 2600 games on the Wii's Virtual Console! I would download this right away!

  • Too bad there wasn't youtube back then to show me this when I was 9 yrs old and had to figure this out myself.

  • Dude my sentiments exactly! I wish I had this when I was 9! I played this so many times it's ridiculous and never got to the end. It killed me. I kicked ass but I never figured out the underground shortcuts.

  • That's a scorpion not a crocodile you idiot!

  • these vids are nice waching when im sick or i got a weekend

  • Those sounds look like Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Arcade.

  • "graphically stunning" Ha! I love it!

  • Existiu um final ???

  • ese video juego es mas complicado de lo que aparenta tecnica mente hablando

  • OMG, so many memories

i used to play this game when i was 4 WOW

  • O Ataria marcou toda uma geração no Brasil !!

  • brutal, they need to make a map of this game. I mean, does i ever end???

  • haha this hame is awsome me and my buddy play it all the time

  • what the fuck I never knew you could stand on the crocodiles' heads when their mouths are open

  • this is proof that the liberal media is destroying america!

  • I used to be able to jump across all 3 gators before they opened their mouths.

  • no u didnt, thats notpossible. unless u use a rope

  • what i meant to say was while they had their had there mouths opened...if you land on the head the right way (on the orig. activision game from the 80's) you could clear them all with 3 nonstop quick jumps

  • oh. i see what u meant now. yah thats possible.

  • too bad this game wont work anymore on my 2600

  • Haha "Graphically Stunning" (I know that it was the shiz back then) 5/5 I still love this game!

  • I laughed when he said "grapically stunning"

    Challenge:

Dig around in your attic and look for this game.

    Play it for a week.

Then go on google and type in "Uncharted: Drakes Fortune"

    Click on the first link.

    ..........your head explodes!

  • Yeah, that does look like a pretty shitty game. Lucky we have games like Pitfall to keep us busy while shit like Uncharted is in the spotlight.

Oh wait, you meant... oh. Oh really, that game looks good to you? Wow. No accounting for terrible tastes I suppose.

  • hey, be nice :(

  • Sorry. I've pretty much given up on modern gaming, so I'm a little biased. I think last gen was the last new batch of systems I'll ever bother with.

  • this game makes me feel nosalgia

  • NICE VIDEO

  • classic game... this was a great game in the day... i cant believe how shit it looks now.. but back then, thats all they had so you thought, " this is cool".

  • Once more, gay "RPGS Rule" losers are calling fun games like this "bad"

  • does anyone know what happens when you beat this game?

  • the game just flips to the begining. aka you start over.

  • that's a rip off isn't it lol

  • beautyfull cartridge

  • graphically stunning! hahahahaha...how things have changed...as a kid I even would have agreed with him...

  • Man, I remember playing that game back in the day... there was nothing else to compare it to, and the mere ability to play an 'indiana jones' games was exciting in itself... man... we were such fools. The ET was as horrid as that one too.

  • OMG he makes it seem easy. That game is still hard for me lol...i just got it and tried playin on my xbox. Jumping those things that move so fast, what are they called? they always get me when im waitin for the crocodiles to close their mouths grrr. BTW niice upload, indeed pitfall is a classic. i remember the good old days when i played it with my atari 2600...

  • the original side scroller platforming this game is a hidden in the ps2 version of pitfall harry

  • Good hypnotic properties that game, I could fall into transe plying it as a kid! :)

  • lol Nice video. The graphics were great for the time. The game was pretty boring though I must admit.

  • I was falling asleep watching this.

  • "Graphicly stunning!" Lol.

  • That sound efftct at the very begging was used in a tune from Future Sound of London ISDN, or is it Roni Size and Represents on New Forms, or could it be both?

  • graphically stunning haha it has 6 colors max

  • Yes... I heard this high school kid tell me he went to his cousin's house and they played on some game system that was "Sort of like a Playstation 2 but REALLY OLD..." ... he was talking about a Super NES. HA!

  • A Super Nes? That's not old at all!

  • I think it is indeed graphically stunning, if you keep it in the context of the time. I was blown away when I first saw it as a kid.

  • yes...but you gotta realize you three year old acting teener boppers on here that think they know everything.

  • And of course, the systems and games that teens are playing today will be similarly treated like a joke in another 20 years. "What? You guys measured things in megabytes?"

  • I totally agree, even the first PS2 games( now looking back) look like PS1 games with only just more memory and faster loading. But yet games are becoming more realistic then fun I think.

  • Absolutely agree there mate. Pitfall is a classic.

  • I love the second part, released by Sega: 'Pitfall II - The Lost Caverns', available in mame. Atari's Pitfall is too poor and boring!

  • Yah...Pifall...

  • "graphically stunning game" ... LOL.

  • I know! Haa! Even back then Intellivision kicked its ass.

  • Where was this aired origonally? I thought I'd seen every early 80s tv related show. Sounds like a VHS series.
