@TheLOLAcademy136 it's dog 99% of the time, a cat skin shamisen will run thousands of dollars compared to a few hundred for dog and less for synthetic. unless it's from okinawa then it's snake, the original term was 蛇皮線 implying three strings over snake skin, then when it was brought to japan it became 三線 sangen which was the same as the original chinese name for the instrument then 三味線 shamisen 三味線 three style strings
