  • Nobody answered--haha. Wonder why? The tape sure plays good Morse, but you ops suck using that bug. I used SITOR and sent everything just about free to USCG radio stations. I even sent all our military message traffic (move reps, sit reps, obs) this way and saved money. There were some good CW ops at the KPH, WLO, etc., but they didn't use bugs. The captains spent all the money on the satetllite using the phone. I worked 1986-1995. What a transition it was going through then.

  • American marine radio ops were idiots and loosers... I know russian CW OPS they were sending 60WPM, I know one man whos was able copy QTCs on 80 WPM (!)

Even that bitch doesnt help u....

  • Wow concentration skills are awesome!

  • very neat.. n0amy

  • If my memory serves me well, there were two H/F stations on the US west coast.

KPH run by RCA and KFS run by ITT.

I visited KFS back in 1975/76 while serving as Radio Officer on Niarchos tankers

but never got to see KPH.

  • Hello, were do the audio clips from the beginning of the video come from? It sounds very cool.

  • DA - Wow, what a flair and style you show with the bug! Sure and I'm Morse savvy after a lifetime of it's use,but my handling of a key is more like watching the corner scow driver hacking pork chops with an axe. Your style is more like a sushi chef with every motion an art form in presenting the meal.

  • great video Elaine!

  • This is so very excellent! 73 de NW7US dit dit

  • Also see some Kenwood R1000 receivers. Wish I could run a bug like that!

  • So... you young bucks; 17:25 - 22:44

Think you can handle a shot from that fist?

It is a shame the requirement is gone.

I was not for loosing it.

But it is oh so alive.

  • Interesting watching her hand motion when she sends. Lots of 'flair' ? Hi Hi

  • The 'Ol Girl runs it three fingered with three-inch nails.... Wow man, get outta town, she's a... a Movie-Star!

    Right-on.

More power to her and all that still tap-dance.

  • thank you fot the nice video,

  • Fantastic tour and cool beans on the code, although it's way too fast for me! Must have some really good filtering to filter out all those static crashes. 73 de NØJAA.

  • Love watching DA's unique fist! A thing of beauty to see! I was at KPH last week .. no one there of course, but it was great to see! Hope I can return when there is some of the folks there!

  • Well done wa6ube!

  • Great event & video, boy is my code rusty

  • Veryinteresting but I remember working WEDI at GKL 1954 with an R/O whose morse was exactly the same whether auto, bug or hand key. Few people can really send perfect morse on a bug! We could do it at GLV

Those are kenwood R-5000 receivers. Basicly the receiver portion of a TS-440and an internal power supply.

  • If I got my Radiotelegraph certificate before I got my First phone my life may have turned out differently. I would have been more the ship type rather than the shore station type.

  • Yes, Denise is a former U.S. Coast Guard radio operator, and after leaving the Coast Guard, she was the first female radio operator to join KPH ... she's a kewl person !! ..

    Elaine

  • Geez, Denise makes it look SO EASY! Did you bring your key? It all looks so complicated. Maybe I'll learn the code someday and be able to figure out what's being 'said'. Thanks for posting Elaine, miss ya.

  • Yes, I brought my own Vibroplex bug, and also my own super-good david clark headphones !! ..
