you show a strong musical appreciation for mastodon your covers are fantastic . i got the crack the skye tab book the day it was for sale and i still can't play all the way through ghost of karelia, the last baron, and i can play most of the title track i love the tuning of crack the skye(the song) A-G-C-F-A-D it sound so dark plus you can play iron tusk, march of the fire ants, and a bunch of other great mastodon songs in that tuning iv'e tried to become very familiar with it. keep goin

Ok.. I see, they tune the entire guitar down a whole step and drop the E to C. That's heavy for sure. looks like you could get more fret buzz with that tuning it your are not careful.

its just drop C. depends how your guitar is set up.

the easiest way i've found to get to drop c is tune your e string to a d, then tune everythign to that string like you're tuning to standard, but it lowers everything a whole step, then go through the same process for drop d tuning to get that e string to a C. as long as you arent using some uberlight gauge strings it should be fine and minimal fret buzz.
