26yr old Leopard Gecko PROOF!

U know what's funny is that this leopard gecko is 26 years old and it never lost it's tail and some people's gecko lose there tails the first week they have them good job :D

That's a good job, although it should not be that much of a surprise to people, and it is sad that it is. What that tells me is that most people don't have that kind of success because they aren't doing it right. They aren't researching properly, and they aren't maintaining their dedication to their animal. In fact, reptiles, including Leopard Geckos, are naturally built for very long life because of their low metabolism. I know several keepers w/ Leos 15+ years old.

You must have taken great care of her. Leopards can live a long time, but most don't due to owner negligence. Its always nice to know there are those who know what they're doing.

@gorefestggg Actually, no it's not. "Average" life span would mean with the "average" keeper...and the average keeper is either a juvenile or a neglectful idiot who looses interest after a few years. Average life spans for these are far less than even 15 years.

@griffan456 yes a 30 gallon is great the min is 10 gallons but the bigger the better. I have mine in a 40 long PS if you are getting a female she should have an ovulation box halfway filled with dirt on the hot side food on the cool side. Have a 250 watt bulb- on by day off by night but not directly on the lid and an underheater . The best bedding is wood shavings. Pretty much anything but cedar. feed it crickets. If mealworms sprinkle multivitamin powder clean up messes as they happen

Aww sorry for the loss even though it was a year ago. Still, the pet becomes your child for that long and a long time attachment to him. I know they can live longer than a cat or dog and are far cleaner and easier to handle than a cat and dog. He lived a long good happy life.

@ReptileJunky1 Depending on what book you read they can live from 15 to 25 years. Dink is the only female gecko I know that has live to 26 as female leos don't live as long as males.

@8NomNom well a female can go with another female without any problem, but if you house 2 or more males they will fight to death, because they are very territorial. females grow 5 cm less than males, but males can live a bit longer. if you want 2 leopard geckos, get 2 females but if you want to breed them, take a male and a female. it's yours choice! hope i helped

@userbc44 OMG that's an old gecko. My only advice, which you probably already know, is to keep things consistent. Be careful not to overfeed. Just keep things clean and don't change it's world.
