I have aspergers myself...and the person it's named after is indeed Asperg, as in "as-per-g" So it is pronounced "as-per-g-ers" as opposed to how you pronounced it: "as-purge-ers".

I have never heard Asperger's pronounced the way you did it in the vlog. And, to be honest, I also never even thought about pronouncing it that way. The guy was Austrian and his name was Hans Asperger, and there Asperger is more or less pronounced the way the US-guys do it.
