  • Such a moving film. Love it. :)

  • I thought I was watching something special when I saw it, then came the second half. Don't get me wrong, it completely blew me away. His bureaucratic co-workers realizing with each sip of saki at his wake, the impossible task he achieved of getting a swingset to be built in a park. It was so freaking sublime. When the Japanese housewives came to pay him tribute, I lost it. The lowest of the low in the cuture shaming all the others there for the only person that gave a fuck about them.

  • putlocker . com / file / EC95380F24EC4E89#

  • And it is one of the most emotionally powerful films you will ever. Freaking. Watch.

Sometimes, life is in the small victories.

  • What does ''Up and die on them'' mean? (0:58)

  • one of the best of all time!

  • Some people can exist but never truely experience life. I hope my life doesn't turn out this way... Forever alone until my demise...

  • PLEASE SOMEONE UPLOAD 'IKIRU'!

I've been dying to see it...

  • I heard Gondola no Uta in the end...

  • every public servant should be required to watch this prior to taking office!

  • how would you like to be remembered before you die?

  • enamorate doncella mientras tus labios sigan siendo rojos, mientras tu pasión no se enfríe, porque no habrá mañana

  • love this masterpiece, definitely will change the you look at life to some extent, such a powerful movie

  • This movie has some great scenes including where Watanabe walks down the stairs clutching the toy while the girls sing Happy Birthday and the last scene where his work mate trudges sadly along the overpass.

  • akira kurosawa it;s a genius indeed

  • truly a masterpiece....

  • I saw this movie for the first time a couple of days ago, and I cannot believe it was made in '52. It feels more "contemporary" than the movies coming out today.

  • The movie of the live blessing

  • The short scene here in the beginning with the old man on the street (in the original film without sound!) and almost hit by a loud big truck is copied in Darren Aronofsky's film "The Fountain". Grandmaster Akira Kurosawa influenced many important filmers...

  • @nothingness36 get netflix. you can watch this and many other great films for cheap

  • notice his new hat is light colored and when put in a dark setting only the outside of the brim is obvious. A halo?

  • Great movie.

  • Honestly, one of the greatest movies ever made. So full of hope, and so full of hopelessness. Life's promise and downfall.

  • Hello all...where can i find this film?? i really would truly enjoy viewing it in it's entirety.

  • @missamelie17 Do you have netflix? It''s cheap, and you can watch any film you want, allot you can watch instantly.

  • i loved it

  • This is my favorite movie of all time. Kurosawa truly is a master-- watching him sob into his pillow in despair and loneliness as the film pans to the shot of a certificate from his employer congratulating him on his decades of service... it makes you realize, there's more to life than mediocrity and mindless labor. You have to do something. And that a film can make you think that? It's truly beautiful.

  • I had told myself "I have to remember the flame flicker inside my heart" after watching this film. Its ashame. I cannot feel that anymore after that day...

  • It is touching the heart. And the song that he used to sing that played at 2:05 ..it is so meaningful. It says ..."the life is short .....Girls.. fall in love ...before your flowers die...the life is short ...there is no tomorrow". He is so sad to sings it this way !

  • This film has touch my heart. It brings to light questions about life and death. In this life that is being dominated by burearcrats its becoming easy to lead a meaningless life. Mediocracy is also becoming the norm. Relativism creeps into our lifes. Our politicians have become rationalist, bent on using reason to justify their ideals and their greed.(Look at the city of Bell)

  • I think, the best movie ever.

  • I absolutely LOVE this film!

  • This is one of the VERY few movies that makes me cry. A lot. It's a favorite.

  • @BreakerdeGodot Yes, this is a devastating movie.

  • I recently discovered this film and I've fallen in love with it. I adore the acting. The main character's pathetic, lonely expressions throughout the film are brilliant

  • I agree, 2001 is much better than Stalker.

  • This is a beatiful movie. An inspiring story on how one man can make a difference.

    See it!

  • @billbuczak

I think a swing represents it the best:

You constantly feel like your going somewhere, and yet, you aren't; you are pushing all you can into going nowhere.

  • whats the story about????

  • Takashi Shimura plays a middle aged bureaucrat who is diagnosed with inoperable bowel cancer. He has only 6 months left to live, the movie follows his struggle to derive meaning from a wasted life.

  • Kurosawa's cinema speaks on so many levels of depth....Socially, Morally, and even just the majestic nature of purity. He is the end-all best director of all time.

  • We watched this movie in my upper level philosophy class today at Texas State University

  • Takashi Shimura is such an excellent actor. I love his role as the leader in the Seven Samurai.

  • This is one of those films that everybody should see, and not just because it is a masterpiece.

  • 1. Ikiru (Kurosawa)

    2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick)

    3. Stalker (Tarkwoski)

These 3 pictures change lives... dramatically!

  • Kubrick over Tarkovsky? 2001 over Stalker?! Are you insane?!

  • 2001 takes Stalker any day of the fuckin week.

    Kubrick #1!!!

  • @BeatenAndTortured I guess you like prefer lifeless movies that have shitty generalizations about mankind's fate over, you know, movies worth watching more than once. Hey, it's your life

  • i love this film so much, i weep every time i see this film, then feeling cleansed afterwards. i know it sound foolish right.

    i love this film.

  • this is one of my lovest movie ever. Perfect! Should be a youtube hit,,, but the movie last 2 hours,,, even so is worhtwhile......

  • 2:05

"Inochi mijikashi" I love this song but can't find the original song recorded as a popular song.

If anybody knows posted in youtube, let me know.

  • allgoo19, the song is 'The Song of the Gondola (Gondola No Uta) '. There are in youtube posted lots plays of this song including Miku Hatsune version.

  • @Mimitwins

    Thank you!!

  • Or you can find it on searching "ゴンドラの唄" in youtube.

  • When I think of my future I see myself as Kanji Watanabe and it scares me. One of the most beautiful movies ever made.

  • Quite possibly the best movie ever made.

  • Kurosawa's most beautiful film, one of my all-time favorites. I've seen it many many times.

  • please excuse my memory but I believe an earlier Kurosawa film Drunken Angel? was similar in ways to ikiru, amazing final scene, heck... just watch any Kurosawa film there all beautiful!

  • I'm lucky I saw this on premium channels, I subsequently could not find a way to order it afterwards. Hope you have better luck! I thought this movie was better than "It's a Wonderful Life,' if only for the reason I first saw this round X-mas time and was of course, considerably moved. It was Beautiful, but his song at the club makes me weep like a baby...

    D'X

  • the most beautiful "tragic" film ever made.

  • goddamnit this trailer is making me cry.

now I must find this movie

  • It's available on DVD, at amazon for instance.

  • Same here :)

  • Great movie!

  • does anyone know were i can find the song "life is brief"

  • I started tearing up when he sang that song. That's what hit me the hardest. :,<

  • @countumga By the swing scene, i was sobbing!

  • soo sad =[

  • Even when im watching the trailer i feel like crying ... T-T

  • Yeah, it's an amazing film.

  • love this movie. true 10

  • @TODOWOKOROSUNA

Watashi mo sou omoimasu! Mattaku sono toori da to omoimasu yo! Tokuni, buranko no shiin desu yo! Are wa ikanimo mastaa no sakuhin no ichibu da to ittemo kamaimasen yo!
