I'd rather ride in a 101 than a sprinter or pacer any day. Alas they are no more on the main line metals. They used 3-car 101s on the Reading- Gatwick service and I spent many an hour bouncing about on a nice springy seat gazing out the front window (that's if the driver hadn't pulled the blind down which some did)

its a shame that the 101s have retired. every day since 2007 i get the train from work at woodley and i change at guide bridge. can't believe i missed the chance to get on a 101. if only i was into train back in the early 2000s. now mainly the uncomfortable 142 pacers work the Manchester-Rose Hill lines. sometime you may be lucky enough to get a 150 sprinter or a 156 super sprinter

They ran up till 24th December 2003. I was on the very last one from Rose Hill to Manchester Piccadilly. It was a double header with the Green "Daisy" on the front on the way out. to Rose Hill Was a fun night.
