  • question i see some models that have two red stripes going across the grill but this one has only has one and under it whats the difference? thanks

  • @xXDrumingMonkeyXx

This is an MKV GTI, the one with the 2 strips you're referring to I believe is an MKVI

  • How does the GTI weigh substantially more than its competitors? It is lighter than the Mazdaspeed3 and Impreza WRX. It's heavier than a Porsche Cayman or something but I don't think that's a real competitor since it costs twice as much.

  • I just bought one of these yesterday...and I must say, it is one of the best cars I've ever driven. Im coming from a 2006 subaru impreza....I got a full leather, climate controlled GTI, so the quality of the build is way up there.

  • Lol yea the mazda has more hp but mazdas are in the shop alot more because of their shitty build, thoes things fall apart as soon as you get it off the lot

  • @TheBarnicalbob you clearly never owned a mazda, mazda r reliable and more solidly built than honda, i own a mazda 6 and a s80 volvo both r durable cars, i dare you to get a volkswagen or audi no NOT go in a shop in 3 months except for servicing & oil change!!!

  • always liked the looks of these

  • anyone have a gti? im wondering if it is any good in the snow

  • @spikeev2 I have the 17in wheels and I have no problem when it snows. I've only become stuck once when the snow was more than 2ft deep, even then I was able to rock it out with a few tries.

  • @spikeev2 I have owned two, I would not say this car is ideal to have in any heavy snow. It will actually surprise you in some moderate snow conditions though. These things are built to be driven year long on the autobahn back in Deutschland. They will handle a good bit of snow ;). Make sure you switch your tires to winter tires when the fall season starts to wane though lol. I hope you are enjoying your GTI if you have one, or if you plan to get one I sure hope you get that taken care of soon!

  • i just got a new 2010 GTI for my first car. i have really enjoyed it so far.

  • will the insurance for a new driver be high in price? im 16 and looking for a good looking car thats affordable but im not sure what car would be good any suggestions?

  • @bmor616 Insurance companies consider this a sports car...so its not gonna be cheap, especially for a 16 year old that just start driving

  • If anybody is watching this video and thinking about buying this car I strongely suggest you reconsider. I bought an 09' GTI and I really regret it, it has shitty acceleration and the overall look of the car is just ugly. I am currently trying to sell mine for 14k and it's been on the market for about 3 months now. Seriously please do yourselves a favor and don't buy this car.

  • @gxsrbaby what other car would you buy?

  • 2.25 OH MY GOD how old is that dude.

  • damn in my country this thing cost around 50.000 bucks!!

  • @djkasdjkasdjdjdj in mine you can get one for 10 000 chickens. The dealer also says something about my sister...

  • I have a black 4-door manual with the turbo upgrade and the upgraded rims as well.. i love it. so much

  • im getting my lisence and was thinking about this car, some good prices on craigslist

  • @DanDaMan2794 I got an '07 for my first car, have a vid of it on my page. Great car, just not the best when it comes to snow. But then again, it has summer tires on it. I'd recommend it for a first car if you can get it for the right price.

  • i LOVEEEEE my car... i recommended it to three of my non-gearhead friends... and two of them bought one!

  • Excellent car!! I have one.

  • My favorite part is the insurance rate for being a male under 25.

  • chick car

  • @italianodalano nah, it's marketed for young guys 18 - 35. This car has too much performance that girls don't care about. It's for people who like sporty cars with not too much bulk to them.

  • @theDrewid No, it's a chick car....All vw's are girly cars. Period. Young guys nowadays are just P#@@ies, that is why they like these hatch cars. Too sensitive to drive a rwd coupe or muscle car...

  • Yeah, a chick car that was driven by man since 77 in Europe. Nothing can match it in its price or class. It will burn any Mustang out there. Also back when it first hit the market 3 decades ago it whooped the shit out of all the so called "sports cars" of the day. Get your facts straight noob and stick to driving your toy hondas or over weight American boats. And besides DSG, you can't get that anywhere else right now. No one else besides Audi/VW make a computerized double clutch gear box.

  • @Cleezy88 By you not knowing how old i am or what i drive makes your whole argument void. I know all about these cars, numbnuts. As far as Mustangs go, put the pipe down and I don't even care for fords. As far as transmissions, manual gearbox all the way. I know this technology is nice, but it's just more fun to bang gears. Only magazine readers quibble over the fractions of a second difference in shifts. Back to the point-Hatches are ugly and not sporty or stylish at all to me.

  • @donnis618 Well you seemed to completely dodge the whole point of my reply to your silly stupid remark. You did not even try to defend your previous statement. "Put down the pipe" hah good one you were criticizing me for assuming the cars you liked to drive yet you try to pass judgement on me claiming I smoke pot LOL. Anyway point is THAT car is a GREAT car and has a legacy whether it is YOUR preference or not. You made a blanket statement, therefore I responded with one. That simple buddy.

  • Also, Another point, if you really know what you are talking about have you ever heard of the Teutonic driving experience? yeah you can get a EVO or a STi that will smoke this thing BUT remember no one builds a car like the Germans. The interior, the subtle sleeper look to the GTI, the great handling. Also idk about anyone else on here but naught to 60 in 6.5 seconds is right on the money for me! It's fun it's simple, it's all things to all man as Jeremy Clarkson has said. Thank the Germans!

  • @Cleezy88

You are incorrect in saying it'll "burn any Mustang out there". Clearly you haven't driven the 2011 Mustang (v6 or GT), because the track numbers on that clearly show it'll smoke a little GTI.

Also, don't get yourself too excited about the DSG gearbox. Ford, GM, Toyota, and almost every other carmaker offer a DCT gearbox that is essentially the same thing. Also, all auto transmissions are computer controlled these days, so your comment is rather silly.

  • @Cleezy88

That being said, I do love the GTI's and they are my favorite hot hatch. It's just that you can't ignore the fact that American performance has really surged in the last year or two.

Also, German build quality as of late has been questionable. Many friends I know that have a German car making major repairs pretty early. If you look at Kelley Blue Book's reliability ratings for VW/Audi as of late, you'll see they agree.

  • @theDrewid ya i guess your right haha

  • Mazdaspeed 3 has 63 more hp & over 70 more tq. Zoom Zoom all the wall!!!

  • @dh39zj Well my friend there is a 2010 version of this same car, the Golf R, that comes whit a 2.0 turbocharged that pumps 270 hp and 258 lb - ft of torque. German engenering all the way!!!!!!!!

  • i dont have GTI,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i am sad now

  • i have an automatic shift and an automatic manual shift GTI. does automatic/ manual shift improve fuel economy? (note that my car isnt manual, its automatic, with an automatic manual shift. so i can also get that racing feel.)

  • @thatwasshitt than you are a cool man :D

  • god do u americans have manual cars in us? cuz all i can see is automatics ...

  • @McL4ren im from america and i have never owned or driven an automatic in my life. only manuals

  • @McL4ren its hard to find a manual, but i wont own anything but! they are a blast

  • @fpskirk exactly what i feel like, i know the DSG shifts a lot faster but idc, flicking my finger to shift gears is boring as well as just getting on the gas, i love manual especially in a GTI, or really any car for that matter. I hate how people are trying to make the DSG better by saying it shifts much faster, yea true, but do you want to sacrifice a lot of fun just so you can shift faster? My preference is always manual, and even if i drive a DSG, it will not change my mind.

  • @speacialperson12345

I couldn't agree with you more, I test drove both version over the weekend plus the Mazdaspeed3

The DSG on the GTI makes such a little difference compare to the manual that I can care less, I am a happy owner of a brand new 2010 GTI and I love it to death.

  • @PKhong972 thank you for agreeing with me, i mean damn so many people are trying to make me get a DSG, however its mainly comments over youtube because i cant afford a new car atm, however the 2010 GTI is actually pretty affordable. a used R32 id love to own, 04 mk4 version not the 08 bc the 08 is ONLY the DSG and id never get that.

And great to see you got a GTI, how much did you pay? im just curious, i hope to get AT LEAST a VR6 soon, if im lucky then an R32 is what id step up to.

  • @PKhong972 oh and i just wanted to add, could you put up a video of ur GTI? that be cool

  • i'm thinking of buying a gti, should i go for the manual or the dsg?

  • @coolerdude44 6 speed manual!!!!!!! the people ive talked to said they regret buying the DSG, some liked it though. I will always get manual no hesitation at all.

    =)

  • kinda feels like the gti has a weak engine....

  • @Miike92

What makes you say the engine is weak?

  • @TheVtieg6 its lousy horsepower output.

  • @Miike92

How can 200bhp in a hatch be lousy?

Just because it hasnt got the most power dont mean its lousy. Its got a fine engine which is far from underpowered its a great engine. Theres alot more to an engine than bhp numbers

  • @TheVtieg6 you dont understand what i mean. Turbos are a great and easy way of getting alot more horsepower from an engine. But the GTI only has 200 horsepoewr with a turbo engine from a 2.0L. Imagine it w/o a turbo it might only get 150 horsepower. If this was honda or suburu or lancer, it would have the same engine size but with like 250 horsepower or more. Its lousy how much horsepower the engine gets with the help of a turbo.

  • @Miike92

I understand what you mean but this engine has plenty of power for this car. Anyone can get huge bhp numbers out of a car example the Golf GTi R version with 265bhp from the same engine. More power does have its disadvantages like torque steer. worse fuel economy, higher insurance, stiffened suspension means harder ride, turbo lag (if bigger turbos are used like in the evo) and not as smooth power delivery etc

Now do you get my point?

  • @TheVtieg6 yeah but i just feel they just went through with the motions making this car, they didnt really pay close attention to detail and make it a potentially great car

  • @Miike92

The attention to detail is what makes it a great allround but you guys seem to only look at the bhp figure like its underpowered. Just take one for a test drive and you will find out.

  • @TheVtieg6 well i mean look at the honda s2000, bit of an old car but makes the highest output of horsepower for engine size without any type of turbo or supercharger.

  • @Miike92

Im a big Honda fan myself but the GTI engine is alot better in ways such as the amount of torque is produces and how it produces torque. You need to get hp figures out your head because theres more to a car then hp numbers

  • @TheVtieg6 well plus this car is alot heavier than i expected around 3 and a half thousand pounds weighs the car down. It produces more torque cuz of the turbos

  • "I love hot hatchbacks because you can take the children to school, pick up furniture, and drive everything back at a million miles an hour" -Jeremy Clarkson

  • the gti is based off of the golf not the rabbit

  • @blackbeltdups18 the Rabbit is the Golf

  • I'd love to have a GTi! =)

  • DSG is retarded.... manual is the only way to go

  • @jpsbfmc i dissagree, its a technilogical marvel that doubles as an automatic

  • @jpsbfmc hell fucking yes

  • @jpsbfmc

It all depends on what your taste is. If you use the DSG in an autocross, or a race track, the DSG is the obvious choice. however, its not as fun as a manual. Im still kicking myself for getting the DSG over a manual but if someone in my family other than my dad were to drive my car, they wouldnt be able to use a manual.

  • the mazdaspeed 3 seems to be a good car for more power. Its got a direct injection turbo 4cyl with 265hp 280 lbs torque. with a 6 speed manual. really sporty with nice handling

  • crazy looking gas pedle, i wonder how it feels

  • i would still pic the old fashioned manual transmission, probably alot more reliable than the dsg transmission anyways

  • @esca8652 Its a sentiment shared by die hards that wish to row a manual shifter like the "old" days, but not actually true. The DSG has proven to be superior in all aspects.

Many consider it to be the best trans of all time. While I like to rip through gears my self as well, I would get a DSG every time.

  • @esca8652

mine's a manual 6MT tranny, it's less of a hassle maintenance compared to the DSG. I agree DSG is much faster but when it comes to maintaining the car, the dealer charges an arm and a leg.

  • @acuratlnigga -- does look a little plain, but i know several people who enjoy these cars everyday, and they have no complaints about the car...

  • @acuratlnigga wow its the opposite of what u say

  • does anyone know if this car is any good in the snow? i live in calgary and am looking to purchase one

  • thanks ok... what about the mini coop?

  • get the new wrx. its 4 door, its a hatch, AWD, turbo charged. excellent in snow. prices are fairly the same as the gti

  • sure )) but honestly interior of the wrx looks cheap and boring as well ))

  • Hey. If you want a performance FWD car, this is definitely one of the best. Mazdaspeed 3 is faster, but lacks the fluidity of the GTI. As for driving in snow, AWD will get you going better, but remember that braking is the same whether it's FWD or AWD. General rule of thumb is that FWD with winter tires is better than AWD with all season. Also, this car has exceptional feedback that will let you know what the tires are doing, which allows you to have better control in snow. cont'd-->

  • --> btw, the front end being plastic has nothing to do with its winter performance. It will NOT rot. Almost ALL modern cars since the '90s have plastic cover over the front bumper. Anyway, if you want performance car that's good in the snow, Subaru WRX would be my first choice, although it doesn't have as good of steering feedback as the GTI. Drive both and see which one you like better. And 133Dadddy, the chances are, your car has plastic cover over the front bumper too, unless it's a truck.

  • @XxSexyBoy123xX ......i just bought the 2010 gti 2.0T. its a great car and i love it but it is not good in snow, just tried it out in the snowstorm in NYC few days ago.

133Daddy is right. i wish it was 4 wheel drive, everything else about it is sweet ;-)

  • thanks so much for your time...also what about the mini coop?

  • @ezes6zy

Snow tires > four wheel drive, that will help more than AWD with summer tires

  • @XxSexyBoy123xX the R32 is better, due to its AWD not 4WD. I hate how people get these mixed up, on trucks its 4wheeldrive, suvs vary between 4wheeldrive and All Wheel Drive. To me, any car that is not FWD or RWD is AWD not 4wheeldrive, there is a difference. Subaru WRX STi's are AWD, if anyone says 4wheeldrive thts wrong. i say that cars can be AWD but none are available in 4wheeldrive...

  • Wow.. people who wont drive this because a few others are bitching about the "manliness" of it are the real pussies! Kinda reminds me of the Miata and how insecure "men" wont drive it because it's a "girl's car".. pisses me off to no end when all the technical greatness of a machine are ignored because of a few insecure sorry excuses for men!

  • Most men wont drive the Miata because it is primarily known as car driven by gay guys.

Regardless, this is a sexy ass car.

  • nice car but evey1 keeps calling a chick car for that reason is why i wouldnt get but it my gf or mom bought 1 id drive but not everyday

  • i have SUCH a love/hate relationship with this car............

  • What do you hate about it?

  • notrhing big, just its styling. in my mind, round shapes are feminine and sharp lines are manly. so the only thing i hate about the car is that is looks cute. its still a nice looking car but ide rather have a manly looking car. like the camaro. lol

  • Maybe its just because its red. Look at a black or silver one, it looks more masculine.

  • ... but i like red on a car. but yea, it would look meaner in black.

  • gti is worth it for the price. I have a Civic Si FG2 and to get the power out of a Civic Si, you'll need to get up to 6800rpm. Then of the gti it has power/torque from the start. I'm trading my civic in for a Gti..

  • this pwns Civic SI

i think its nicer then the Mini.

and better in looks over a MazdaSport3, but not nearly as much power.

  • but u can get it to have soo much power

i mean u can with the others but this one is really nice when powerful

  • is GTI way better then CIVIC SI with 197HP ?

  • Coming from a honda civie ex with some modifications for the engine I feel the power of GTI with also getting the BIOS flashed for more Horsepower !

  • civics are so cheesy

  • @acuratlnigga more hp and better german engineering oh and a fun peppy turbocharger

  • you must get a 60k or more manufacture warranty bumper to bumper at no cost, if you're planing to buy this cars, turbo is not well done YET. if those bast.......rs at vw say this car is good they won't say no to give you that minimum warranty. Don't be fool by them.

  • my gti is so much nicer , plus DSg ::::P

  • its alot better than you

  • how would you compare this car with the audi A3??

  • if i had the money, and if the A3 came in a coupe version, i would buy one

  • a3 does come in a performance coupe, its called the s3

  • i DON'T KNOW YOUR MOTHER, THA'S WHY I RESPECT HER......BUT YOU.... DON'T EVEN HAVE TO WASTE MY TIME

  • Be careful if you are thinking getting this vehicle. Have a bumper to bumper warranty until 60K minimum. At no cost, it should be as a standard warranty don't get fool by those stealer's.

  • Trashy cars aren't successful for thirty some years. Don't like this car? Why watch the vid. then bitch about it?

  • why the hell do ppl watch videos they will hate? got to love the world

  • WHAT A CAR!!!!!!

  • They are awesome and problems aren't guaranteed.

  • yeah the turbo on my jetta broke, but i'm pretty sure it happens more frequently on the older models rather than newer

  • NONESENSE! We have had 3 VW's in our family... a GLI, a CC, and an EOS, and NONE of them have given us electrical issues. At least from 2003 and on anyway.

  • rabbit and golf are the same car.

  • so nice¡ i want one ¡

  • 5th Gear did a comparison between the Wrx and the GTI and the GTI won. It's pretty beast.

  • I don't disagree. I've driven all three, I currently own a Wrx and love it. If I was looking for a practical car with kick I would really consider a GTI. Overall, I prefer a wrx for many reasons, mostly for the 4wd.. living in MN it is great for driving in the winter being my everyday car. Also, if a wrx isnt driven very hard it can last 200,000+ miles. VW, isn't as reliable. I would opt for a ~ 2006 sti coup over a GTI any day.

  • Three - GTI, WRX and STI.

  • Also, the comparison was on a circular track, the heavier car (wrx) would have a disadvantage over a GTI. On a straight line a wrx (0-60 ~ 4.8 seconds) would put a GTI (0-60 ~ 6 seconds) in the dust. But the differences are nuanced. I really don't like the new WRX I prefer the wrx/sti coups.

  • haha a wrx a coupe??? are you retarded? they are all sedans, thats what makes them special, their a performance sedan. and a 4.8 is an STI time but not a regular wrx. you probably can't even hit those times anyway.

  • The 09 WRX can pull a 0 - 60 of 4.7. Faster than the 08 AND09 STI. Car and Driver confirmed it. Obviously, this is because you don't need to shift twice to hit 60. Not only that, but the STI is a couple hundred pounds heavier. Do some reading.

  • Only thing is....the WRX transmission lets it down...wish they gave it the STI 6speed, strength is fantastic

  • actually wrx is pretty much the same price as the gti except its awd has a shitty ass interior and looks cheap and it gets beaten in every comparison by the gti...as for the evo only wanna be racer 17 year olds with rich dads drive those there are much better cars for that price

  • True about the evo's. Ahh every comparison? I think not.. The interior of the GTI is nice but isn't better then the wrx. I've driven a new GTI and you can tell that it has considerably less power than the WRX. Looks cheap? Kia's look nice but have no substance.. but no harm. I like the design of the GTI better. I still like the GTI. But 4wd in MN is crucial.

  • Comment removed

  • Poor man's? I actually picked this over a WRX. The WRX may be faster off the line, but have you seen the interior? It sucks ass!! Plus my wife has an 06' Outback Wagon that is a piece of crap.

  • Point of clarification; I loved the WRX up through 2007, it's the new model I don't like (but I'm sure would have a blast driving!)

  • Agreed

  • does it perfer premium fuel?

    this car is great though

  • it does prefer premium although you don't have to use it.

  • I have a 2008 6MT GTI MKV. And all I can say is thumps-up to VW for making this car. It's really fun to drive and as far as reliability, I think it's pretty good. The only downside is that because gas is kind of expensive, it does need to have at least a minimum of 91 Octane to run it, as it will knock the engine if you use 87 or lower.

Other than that it's an inspiration and brings the smile everytime you drive it!

  • Seems like a great car; efficient, practical, but with enough style and sizzle to make it more appealing to those of us with Y-chromosomes.

  • this car is hot.

  • Only improvements I can think of to the GTI is to reduce the weight from like 3200 to say 3000 or less and as an option, an even bigger turbo to compete with the mazdaspeed3. Interesting though that the DSG is faster to 60 than manual, that's reassuring as I have a DSG. Only problem is you're never in full control of the downshifts, just the upshifts.

  • the DSG has several ways to shift and i remember driving my girlfriends 09 jetta wolfsburg and it had the tiptronic type shifting so you could have control fo your downshifting

  • if you shift it into the manual shift mode it will only shift when you tell it to.

  • Read your owner's manual.

  • I have one, its pretty sweet

  • Is the gti a fast car, when you accelerate does your head go back into the seat

  • car and driver dide 0-60 in 6 seconds flat

  • Yes, I have one.

  • I WANT THIS CAR!!

  • Amazing.
