When is this video from? I saw them around 2001 at Club Culture in Chester NY and they had a different lineup - the lead singer wasn't there, the guitarist was doing most of the vocals, and the drummer in this video was playing guitar.

Gym Class Heroes are not a pop punk band. I said nothing of hardcore either, since the first great hardcore band (Bad Brains) was black. TV on the Radio, also, is not pop punk.
It has nothing to do with hangups. It has to do with dominant culture and geography. That's why, relatively, there are many more black rappers than white. Many more white country singers than black. Stop crying. No one was assigning any value to his being black.
