@mike11208 Sakura-con is a Stationary Convention. It was founded in Washington, under Washington state laws. So moving a federal 501c3 Non-Profit convention to another state would be much more difficult than making a new one from scratch in your area.

I still have no idea why it's named "Cherry Blossom Convention".

Although to people who don't know what Sakura mean might find it catchy, guess that's why.

@WeAreTheRiot Sakura Festivals are usually held around April because the blossoming typically reaches Kyoto and Tokyo around the beginning of April (which is around the time of Sakura-con). Also Sakura is a word commonly known as a Japanese world and used in many anime and manga.

@WeAreTheRiot because it's first 2 years was held inside Norwescon ( that took place in April) and went by the name Baka con. I'm sure you know what baka means in japanese. baka con was a bad name for a con that wanted to be taken seriously and so it was changed. Cherry blossoms bloom in the spring (early April) and so it's only fitting to name it Sakura-con when it takes place in April.

@shelboo91 You must mean the same hotel as Norwescon since Norwescon and Sakuracon only started being the same weekend after they moved to the Washington State Convention & Trade Center. Blooming usually Kyoto and Tokyo around the beginning of April though they bloom in japan March to early May. There are even viewing parties that follow them as they bloom from southern japan to northern japan.

The videos are judged on many different things. Information, Entertainment Value, Relevance, Creativity, Does it meet all technical requirements... Which was actually one many seemed to have issues with.

We hope to get more entries for 2011. I recomend anyone who loved a particular entry to actually comment and say they love it, why, and why they think it should win. It will give us an idea what members and future members think.
