It's recordings like this gem right here left behind by one of the greatest to ever write a song that makes my head just spin in a great way. I love the raw and gritty nature of it. Rustic and loose. The way John loved his songs to be. Right down to the ambient sounds made after the last note played. Perfect!
The world needs another Lennon. Look at all the crap going on RIGHT NOW because no voice has the balls anymore to preach REAL PEACE. Now its all about materials and money and making people laugh through stupidity. No message, no beauty, no truth. Just a bunch of rich clowns eager to make a buck while the world burns down. Disgusting, if God gave you talent, use it for truth love and peace... anything else is a waste if you think about it. Because the mindless cycle is a short lived one.

@phil1002010 Thanks:) A Part of me wishes I could have grew up when the beatles and John Lennon were popular. But at the same time i woudlnt wanna be around when he died ? too sad.. It makes me sick to my stomach when im walking down the halls at school and hear ghetto rap blaring out of the phone of the person whos walking past me. I wish I could grab their phone and throw it up agaisnts the wall. But yet again I have johns music on my phone so i could just play it louder lol
i know its pretty much said on every video but REALLY, the seven people who disliked this video and how ever many more do are obviously not capable of noticing a fantastic and beautiful song when they hear it. I pity you
"No longer play the game, doing fine watching shadows on the wall, no longer riding on (that) merry go round, had to let it go. (Still), people say I'm crazy, lost in confusion, I tell them there's no problems, only solutions. Well, they shake they heads and look at me as if I've lost me mind, I tell them there's no hurry, I'm just sittin' here doin' time. Just sitting here watching those wheels, I really love to watch them go round and round. (No more) merry go round, let it go.
This version to me could have been written in the early 60's. This is my favourite song of John's yet ironically the optimism encaptuated in it ultimately killed him.
Oh man can you guess who Red House Painters/Mark Kozeleck structured his sound around???? Not that its a bad thing at all just noticing. LOVE both of them.:)
As my father said and as i also say, if i had Mark David Chapman infront of me, he would be pretty fucked, hope you all think alike ... RIP John Lennon ... Peace out!
To me its amazing how this song was recorded in 1980. One thing that Lennon did so brilliantly was play with a unique folk sound that was timeless and effortless and contained moments of genius. Like 'You've got to hide your love away' (60's) and 'working Class Hero'(70's), to me all 3 tracks could have been on the same album.
well, avin, this is definitely a song worth being played at a funeral -- especially this version, it is a recording so pure and beautiful, so honest and long gone, just like john lennon
Sounds like Watching the Wheels... as arranged by Bob Dylan. It's good, I'm just saying the guitars and song structure here have sort of a Dylan thing going on.
This song really describes a mindset I'd like to have one day. I certainly don't now, and doubt if I ever will. Worth aspiring to, though. Terrific song.
man when yur good yur good. changed the melody but it's better. like dylan or maybe more neil young-ish. very catchy childlike slowed 2 a jack douglas tempo du jour. the bones of the song. like a cut off of rubber soul! wow 30 yrs later.
"No longer riding on the merry-go-round... I just had to let it go." And most people never understood the way I feel about this world. And he was able to capture into a song. John never liked to think his lyrics meant as much as they did, but he was modest in some ways.

@adamstakeonlife Strawberry Field, the influence of Strawberry Fields Forever and where lennon played when he was a kid. But I know it is definiately him now
@titcdrum yeah cause in this he's actually watching the wheels go by, not giving a shit... the album version is kinda poppy and commercial , defeats the spirit of the song ..... this is great,
@MetrazolElectricity totally man.. also i'm not the biggest fan of 80s drums... i love the smiths and the cure and a bunch of other 80s bands but the heavy reverb on the drums.. i dont know haha i'm just going off on personal opinions.
I like The Beatles, but people give them 'more credit' than what they deserve...Paul Mccartney said in an interview one time (and I'm paraphrasing slightly) "someone once told me 'but the Beatles weren't about the money' --that's not true, John and I used to always say 'time to write another swimming pool". They were a band, great band, one of the best; maybe THE best. But people take it too far--- get a clue, it's just music...
So much better than the original. Unplugged is always better. Too Bad Lennon never got to play unplugged. "Imagine" John Lennon, say 1990, doing "Unplugged" on MTV. Lennon would be what, 50 years old. Remember Claptons Unplugged session? Amazing. "Got me on my knees Layla". Nirvana had great session aswell. Is there ne other good Lennon songs that sound better on acoustic?
@malamabay The wheels going round and round are in reference to the game of life. Which take a man from the top, to the bottom, and back to the top again. He saying he no longer plays this game, this is usually a result of finding the God centered life. One no longer has to play the game on the outside of the wheel but rather can live in serenity whether life is up or down. God Bless you all.
I just discovered this version of one of my favorite songs ever. John, your songs and your philosophy will never die in my heart! I'm just sad you're no longer with us!
this is John on a little vacation on a sailboat HE actually sailed to the Bahamas on...got caught in some ROUGH weather and it really enlighten him about life in general and him turning 40 so out came the Double Fantasy album....he sang this into a boom box and sent it to his engineer/producer in New York
i have been reading most of the comments here, and i couldn't agree more with the basic idea of what people are saying here.i don't believe the anger of some of the folks here is directed to lady gaga or justin beiber but the main idea is that today's music just can not ! be compere to the music that john did ,i mean listen to this song , the guy is singing about actual things that are happening to him and combining beautiful metaphors is such a simple but yat sophisticated way a true artist.
It's recordings like this gem right here left behind by one of the greatest to ever write a song that makes my head just spin in a great way. I love the raw and gritty nature of it. Rustic and loose. The way John loved his songs to be. Right down to the ambient sounds made after the last note played. Perfect!

@seth77783 u make a good point but aren't all the bands about money and some what about the music

probably the most beautiful acoustic song i have ever heard.

Lennon was a giftted guy who stills makes lots of people happy. He and the Beatles makes us think that it's not all to bad in this mad world!

I can hear John's good friend Dylan all over this version. I like it better than the studio one by far.

i have been reading most of the comments here, and i couldn't agree more with the basic idea of what people are saying here.i don't believe the anger of some of the folks here is directed to lady gaga or justin beiber but the main idea is that today's music just can not ! be compere to the music that john did ,i mean listen to this song , the guy is singing about actual things that are happening to him and combining beautiful metaphors is such a simple but yat sophisticated way a true artist.
