  • Ahhhh bed time

  • long walk

  • This ending gave the UK police force RESPECT!!!

  • the cid officers then was awesome. roach and dashwood was legends. missed roy galloway

  • Back when time signatures like 7/4 were used in tv themes

  • Gotta love the way Thames still mentioned they were making programs in colour as late as 1988!

  • I remember when this would air on TV and I thought it was weird how they'd walk FOREVER...

  • Wow, only back then could you show a 1 minute 30 second end credit sequence. Could you imagine that now? Especially not on a 30 minute episode.

  • this was origonally aired 1988 not 1998

  • @waddas95 Thanks for pointing out the typo. Have corrected it now :)

  • This episode ending is light duties

  • i wonder how much those guys got just for showing their legs lol

  • which episode was this? can u upload it?

  • Anybody know of an old Bill episode where Burnside nearly finds out about Don Beech?

  • Lol best credits ever

  • god this takes me back

  • i was 2 when this came out, funny enough even at 2 i can just remember it :) but i love the 1984 theme.

  • this is a trip down memory lane i was a kid when these were broadcasted i hope the bill come s back

  • the Bill went downhill after DI Burnside was removed from the cast. he was the best.

  • i absolutly fucking hated that fucking plague on my whole life almost ,,,, oh the hours as a child bord shitless watching shit whilst being looked after by my grandparents and they wonder why we grow up so angry and dysfunctional soaps taking away life and fun times at least todays children wont have to suffer this shit no more

  • @djsreview Hence why The Bill was a drama, and not a soap opera.

  • Ah good old Stamp, it was criminal axing him, the only long serving character left

Maybe a good thing as the demise of the Bill looms that he wasn't there in its final episodes

  • i live 10 mins away from sunhill in sw19.....my dad worked in the kitchen from about 95 -2000.......i regularly saw them film locally.....shame its all coming to an end.

  • Who's the guy laughing at the bar wearing the glasses???

  • @Hounddogg36 I think that's Sgt Alec Peters. With Cryer and Penney, they were the first sergeants I remember from being young.

  • make a petition 4 these end credits to b used 4 the last few episodes

  • @1997larsson Yeah, in complete agreement. Have these guys on the last few episodes credits and show them walking away for the last time or something like that would be a good send off since it's gone down hill.

  • ths theme tune should be brouht back for the last few episodes

  • Is there any episdoes with PC Ramsy

  • RIP The Bill :( Things had started to go downhill a couple of years ago and the new theme tune was terrible! That's when the Bill lost its iconic status. On another note..the middle eight is amazing!

  • I have only seen small bits of The Bill wen i was up my nans..I heard on the car radio that its being killed off in September

  • the only part of this show worth watching.

    says it all really.

  • R.I.P. The Bill.

  • SAVE THE BILL!

    facebook (dot) com (slash) SaveTheBill

  • When i was younger I would VHS the end credits, then pause them take a picture on my polaroid camera, run up stairs and touch myself

  • wow this takes me back :)

  • that is some slow fucking walking!

  • yeh it was good preferd it when Don Beech was in it or Des Taviner good characters

  • Brings back memories at least this Bill has a theme tune unlike the bill now doesnt even have a theme tune pure rubbish

  • yes it does. My parents love watching the Bill but I think its on at 9pm & they lost interest .I lied it when burnside was in it. I didnt bother watching it anymore when he left. Do you remember his own series called Burnside? it was fab but wasnt on long which was typical

  • damm brings bk so much memoriesssss

  • What makes this theme unique is that the time changes from 7/4 to 4/4 and back again, giving variation!

  • Best theme it ever had.

  • Gosh!

When I was younger, as soon as I saw the two police officers walking in sync "RIGHT!! Bed Time!! " and I'd say "they haven't finished walking yet" XD

  • ha! Exactly the same for me! :)

  • OMG SAME !

  • @Gr8t3y3s OMG my thoughts exactly....i used to be fascinated by the legs walking away

  • @Gr8t3y3s You are one one of the greatest people ever, haha

  • Any Idea why the Bill is on later these days?

  • prolly to do with the nature of some of the episodes.

  • oh my goddddd so amazing, brings back so many memories of being allowed to stay up and watch the bill hahahaha, like a comment on another vid for these credits that themetune deffo signifies bedtime!!

  • I am glad I am not the only one how had to report to bed when this tune came on.

I remember once trying to convince my mum that it was the start and not the ending - Why? Ill never know - like she did know! - Proud Baby of the 80s lol.

  • heh, yep you were not the only one :p

  • :-)

  • i always did wonder what would happen if the end music never played, would i still have to go to bed at the end lol.

  • it first half hour was on the 19th july not 21st

  • My apologies my source was wrong.

  • when where the Omnibus shown in the uk

  • The Omnibus used to be shown on a sunday afternoon on UK Gold in the mid 90s if I remember rightly

  • Bring back this amazing theme to our tv!!!

wow the middle 8 is fantastic - thanks for posting ;)

  • forgive me for being stupid, but what is 'middle eight'?

  • A middle 8 is so called because it is a section in a song that tends to happen towards the middle of the song, and tends to be eight bars in length.

The purpose of this section is to break up the simple repetition of a verse/chorus/verse/chorus structure by introducing new elements into the song. This can be a new chord sequence and melody, maybe a big change in the arrangement of the song, or even an instrumental solo.

  • Just one question regarding the Thames TV logo at the end: What year were Thames living in? It was 1988, I think everyone had a colour TV, so why Thames *Colour* Production?

  • Yeah I don't know why. They didn't change their logo from 1969 to 1989 and I guess never got round to removing that from the end cap.

  • Some people still had B/W TVs - even in 1988!

  • There are still 100,000 peopel with black and white even now.

  • Classic :)

  • Ah, when end titles were glorified music videos... Brilliant.

  • Indeed. I remember when I didn't just watch the Bill for the storylines and episodes but for the title screens as well.

Now it's just an over glamorised British version of C.O.P.S.

    :(

  • That's today's TV generally, sadly. Whatever happened to decent, story-driven drama on the box?

  • its great years pretty much ended when they killed Gabriel Kent off

  • i remember sgt.cryer,

met graham cole several times now ^^

  • proper sounds like a video game tune

  • Sounds dated, 1998 was ok, but '01 would work now. RE The feet, they can't be used as female police in the UK don't wear the skirt any more as it was deemed sexist

  • And its probibly a nightmare to run after criminals with.

Well, I know they've stopped using W.P.C for the Women police

  • Because the times, they have a-changed. Unfortunately, the powers that be always seem to decide that the best TV themes sound "old", and in the process of "modernising" completely butcher them. Same with almost every TV theme that's been.

  • MattWindsor91, couldn't agree with you more. I mean the original and 90s guitar remix of the Top Gear theme are so superior to anything since!

  • is the dvd relases any good

  • The UK releases are terrible for the 30 minute episodes. The 1st 13 only have been released. In Australia they have released up to November 1990. Which is 226 episodes more than the UK.

  • OMDZ! The walking at the end of the programme. That was a classic. I loved it so much for some reason. This theme tune is a classic

  • i think because in 1992 that theme stop showing and other theme went to normal with a short showing of the feet at the end

  • Tv Showz dont do this anymore and show everyone involved in making a programme. THey just rush it through to get to the ads.

  • Brilliant!
