I take it that the neurons in the eye are not affected by this disease. If they are, this approach won't work. The eye is more than a biological camera; its an image processor as well.
@JaemzStar A person who is born blind has bigger problems. The eye wires itself up to the brain while the fetus develops. The ability to see lines and classify the orientation of lines comes as a result of connections formed as a baby. If you can't see by 2 years old, you probably aren't going to be able to see at all, at least not in a very useful way (you may be able to discern light and dark areas).

So the human eye will virtually become a video receiver. And it will be able to watch, let say, a movies thru a video transmitter??? Crazy...

usually i hate it if it comes in a form of an Aid, such as a hearing aid.
But this could actually be a nice invention. It'd be better to have it implemented inside of the eye
