I Love The Video It Can Increase My Knowledge As stinky as it is, human waste is a viable energy option whose surface Kenyans have barely scratched. Like cow dung, it readily forms Biogas,
Good, I like that you share this video, I wish success always As stinky as it is, human waste is a viable energy option whose surface Kenyans have barely scratched. Like cow dung
I was looking on the web for idea like this to be implemented in Kenya. So it was a pleasant surprise to find already a working idea. The only other issue that might cause concern is the cost of the project in the university, Kshs 9000000 that is about $ 90000 US dollars, that is too high. All you need is cement which is right now $100 per tonne. In other word this thing shouldn't cost more than one bedroom apartment to build even in an institution like university with 5000 students.
@LUK0BA The project is very complicated and 90k usd is a fair cost. The university is vast, you need to buy special delivery pipes from the different toilets at the site, and deliver the faeces to the biodigestor, also u have to invest in water filteration systems so that you use the liquid waste for farming purposes, it is a complex project not like a private farm.
I commend them for being forward thinking. They have found solutions for the everyday problems that Africans face in their day to day lives. Such ingenious solutions to problem sthat plagues most slums in Africa. This technology just needs start up capital and it is not capital intensive. The waste is always there, so you dont have to import any thing. Good luck to them.
We can set up workable systems and structures that would support innovations and inventions in the areas Science and Technology. The government, our governments, various governments have their roles to play. Also, non-governmental organizations and private companies have their roles to play. And individuals have their own responsibilities.
The government should not only give the slum dwellers proper sanitation and energy, but also work to eliminate shanties by setting a target for housing every year, but also extend and subsidise the hardware for biogas production to the rural areas where they keep cattle to save on trees. We need education, thinking and investments. Simple things that can change our country. Kudos Prof. Kahangi, you gave us tissue culture bananas, now champion biogas. I am proud of you and of JKUAT!!!!!
