  • it's hard to find the right tempo, most are too slow, this one is too fast :(

  • Bravo, Maciej!!!

  • 12 year old Sophie Plummer sings an efortless version.

    youtube.com/watch?v=ci4Ec7i25NE&feature=related

  • I love this song! The little boy did an amazing job! Although the song is quite a bit faster than intended, you have to make up for the breath support that he has. It isnt nearly as strong as an adult so the song has to be faster.

  • 5 stars, amazing voice! I singin this at a festival this sat

  • Lovely interpretation. I agree it is fast for my taste, but I love the boy's voice!!

  • complimenti sono bravissimi :-)

  • A bit too quick in my view but still amazing!

  • I was browsing through YouTube looking for performances of the Pie Jesu from Faure's requiem, and found this. As much as I'm in favor of a child soprano performing this piece (adds an air of innocence missing from most adult performances), I can't say i much like this performance: the tempo is nearly 2 times too fast, the soloist struggles to keep up, and using choir as orchestra creates a murky morass of sound. My grade for this performance and video: C. Stars: 3.

  • Beautiful treble and interpretation!

  • where's the fire?!!

  • beautiful and clear voice....

  • Beautiful song, I love it.

  • wojtuś krolopp chłopczyków zapewne zmobilizował xD

  • So beautiful!

  • me too heard it first on south park. this is a piece of musical magic

  • Comment removed

  • HA! i first heard this in South Park : Lice Capades

  • alright, but far too fast!

  • yes, i think so too...

  • Indeed - too fast, and too much vibrato for this piece.

  • @bec4547 Maybe they were in a hurry before puberty breaks in.

  • Pie iesu domine, dona eis requiem *WHACK* ...Pie iesu domine, dona eis requiem *WHACK* ...

  • XD

    YAY!

  • Haha Monty Python xD

  • i was there that day

    were they eating jesus pie

  • as if you'd debate religion on a youtube video. Just enjoy the beautiful music.

  • It's just kind of weird.

  • its like after you die your pure soul goes into heaven as gods hand reaches out to you and says don't be afraid my child you are free of sin and shall be Indore by light and never feel pain or misery again.

  • I actually think the faster tempo sounds better

  • indeed :)) faster is impossible :9

  • Just beautiful...If you would only understand that this is God's music...its where it comes from, its inspired by God...To love and adore this music shows that your soul understands the real truth...Surrender, and be happy to love God. This is Ben Perkins opinion...Queenstown New Zealand...

  • You don't have to be religious to accept beauty in music just like you don't really have to believe what happens in fiction stories. Get off your high horse and find something beautiful in the world. I'm an atheist myself and your type of people just annoy me.

  • The type that wants to be free from enslavement free from the machinical sight of the goverments view of soceity...

then you haven't pickt your enemy right...

    i have love too

but it's hard to let it out with so much anger in the world

  • Naitzirc life and let to life others! No one asked you to com on this page, listen! You can do whatever you want, no one cares. PLZ don't tell other ppl how to life! We life like that for 1k years we love it and we will stay with this!

  • If you want to be a slave that's ur choice

but there will be no god coming to rescue you...

  • Excuse me naitzirc, you think that religious people can't live life the way YOU see it should be; in truth, as you put it, they are "free and experience life as it should be" for themselves. You have no right to judge them, since you have your own beliefs too. Your entire argument is based on your own beliefs, and thus is not a good argument.

And just because someone is religious doesn't mean they are "slave" to an ideal. In that case, you yourself are slave to an extreme atheist ideal.

  • I'm not an Atheist... but you're a slave if you belive you can't have sex without marriage and you're a slave if you think you don't have the right to decide...

    Thats two good examples

For not to think of the jews and muslims who get circumsied which i think is dishonoring as hell... But i'm sure you don't wanna be free cause you were born with your religion so ...

  • Twas fast but soooooooooo beautiful

  • No no, że w Polsce się taką muzykę produkuje... Można by podczyścić jeszcze troszkę...

  • Thanks for this beauty..sad beauty..but full of an inmense HOPE!!!!

    Nina

  • oh my jesus god, it is extremely beautiful. But it is pretty fast as I see it..

  • two firsts: never sang or heard it this fast, never heard it 100% acapela / choral, not instruments. amazing! May have to hear this several more times to get used to the tempo; at this point want it slower, for Heaven's sake!!!

  • so so so fast....O.O

  • *Bien trop rapide ca gache tout

  • Je le préfère avec un tempo un peu plus lent

  • To say beautiful is to grossl;y undervalue. Million thanks. I fely crushed under the weight of its beauty

  • a bit fast but amazing! great voice!!!

  • quite delightful

  • to fast

  • yes a bit fast, still beautiful. can you guys at least appreciate the music and not critique.

  • fast. not too fast though.

  • what the hell??? a capella????

  • It is taken a bit quick, but the kid certainly has a voice that can cut through; has a sort of east european feel to me. The conductor looks like he's playing the singer like a theremin!

  • good god that was fast!

  • A little too quick. Nice backround, but too fast !

  • too fast

  • to fast...

  • i really liked it!

  • I liked it.

  • I don't have perfect pitch and I can tell that there are intonation problems.

  • Interesting and peaceful but not perfect, anyhow Bravo...

  • you know, it is a tiring song. plus, if all there is wrong with it is a matter of tempo (which is always up to interpretation) and a little pitchwise, then I should think that he is doing a lot of things right?

phrasing, counting, tone, notes, presentation, etc..wonderful.

  • they r going flat i have to sing this song for state and i have perfect pitch .... but its still kinda good for a guy...

  • They got flat. I can tell since I have perfect pitch. And mathgeek, you saw that episode, too?

  • .... at 1:03 he sings dona dona... NOT dona eis - why? the original had dona eis...

  • it is really fast...

  • The reason why Faure scored the Pie Jesu for boy treble was because the Madeleine Church, of which he was choirmaster, didn't allow the usage of female vocalists. The long phrases in this piece would put too much strain on a boy's technique and breath control. Faure, in subsequent performances, entrusted female sopranos to sing the Pie Jesu (Jean-Michel Nectoux, Gabriel Faure: a musical life, p. 122).

  • The only reason that Faure scored the Pie Jesu to be sung by a boy was because the Madeleine Church barred the usage of female singers in its choirs. Performances of the Pie Jesu outside of the Madeleine were entrusted by Faure to female sopranos. The tempo of this piece in conjunction with the long phrases can cause severe strain on a boy's technique and breath control. This performance by Polskie Slowiki is a testament to that when we see the tempo being faster than intended.

  • There are several examples of Pie Jesu of Fauré on YT. This version is several notches faster than anyone else's, and there are boys who are singing at a far slower tempo who are able to handle the longer phrasing through an application of proper technique. I think the tempo here is far too fast and have never heard anyone else do it that fast. It robs the piece of the calm meditation that it should be. I do think this solo boy perhaps had breath control problems but he was a favorite so ...

  • worst version i've ever heard. check the score. way too fast. you suck.

  • the version on south park episode 1103 "lice capades" is better

  • i was just thinking that...

  • ah, the emotions, the feelings, the...whatever; that's all we try to convey, right? human concepts expressed through various forms of art. music, paintings, literature; all of it, just comes back to emotion

  • Beautiful piece but MUCH too fast. I'm also missing this sort of "drama" needed for this song. A boy's soprano is not mature enough to "dig out" and express all the emotions written between lines...

  • But it was written for boy soprano. I think we're used to the over romanticized version where a soprano luxuriates on it all day. the faster tempo serves the limited breath support of the little boy.

  • Sorry, but that's just not how it's supposed to be sung. Wrong tempo and timing, sort of like Requiem on crack. :/ Ok, maybe not that bad, but having performed this piece a few times, it makes me sad to see such an obviously talented choir maul it like this.

  • I like the crack comment. very funny.

  • The melody just takes me away to some unearthly solitude place. This Pie Jesu should be recorded just as much as the Andrew Lloyd Webber one and should be just as recognizable. Only it would have been better if the choir boy singing here was not going as fast or if the music director hadn't made it this tempo. This song would suit the artist Hayley Westenra's voice really well.

  • Slower is the right tempo, but nice performance and i agree with someone saying bout the pronounciation ooosss..:) Lack of sentiment

  • I prefer it slower, and in the english style, where the singer sings round vocals, almost like o's.

  • I think it s tempo is TOO FAST and you canot appreciate it and brings a feeling of running away. The boy is sweet but hastened by its nerves, breathing incorrectly in the phrase.

I prefer it more slowly, it is more quiet and peacful.

  • Brilliant - a great performance of a great tune!

  • Too fast!!! I´m missing emotions...

  • Beautiful Rendition. Wonderful post.Thank you.

  • He sounds like an angel.

  • Indeed, a voice of quality. Unfortunately, the tempo is far too high (it's part of a Requiem !). I appreciated also the role of the choir, replacing the original orechestra.

  • I agree.

The tempo is quite a bit too fast...

  • He's probably very nervous. He looks young and really does have a lovely voice.

  • Pretty nice solo - I wish he didn't breathe so often though, cutting phrases in half. I guess Director Krolopp liked his singing, because he rated a handshake afterwards. Orchestra and organ parts are assigned to the choir in this version.

  • Maybe the director and the kid's father are golf buddies!

  • That would actually be highly unlikely, both the golf and the buddies part.
