Well, I'm watching Police Academy on Comedy Central @11:00am today & I seen the part @ the beginning were the chubby guy is in the Kodak Film hut, so I decided to look up the photo huts & that is how I got here, lol.
I worked at Fotomat Labs , Great Southwest Industrial Park, Atlanta, in the late 70's. It was fun. It was like a continuous movie of America watching the endless paper processors-graduations, weddings, vacations, on and on They were starting same day service at that time and we would meet the chartered jets at Charlie Brown Field. It was a good group and they did a good job. Next door was the Kellogg's Eggo plant with blueberry smell wafting over all the time.
I vaguely recall that logo printed on the envelopes of my 110 film that was developed when I was a child in the 1980s. (I was born in 1980 and had a Fisher-Price camera).
I used to work in one of those kiosks. We employees were called Fotomates. If I had a nickel for every person who said, "How do you go to the bathroom in there?" I'd be a rich woman right now.
I used to remember back when these things used to be in every shopping center parking lot. Once they left town these places either were destroyed or converted to some other use, like a FedEx drop-off place.

Apparently, the Fotomat of today is no longer the drive-up services, but some digital photo software thing for the PC that seems to demean what it had been.

I'd make a guess something like that today would cost probably $400 - $750 a month depending on the cost per square ft.

They are now an online picture processing site....they are parodied as Fotohut on my favorite sitcom, That '70s Show.

When I was a little kid, I used to refer to Fotomats as "Snoopy booths"--you can plainly see why.

I miss Fotomat! My city used to have them all over until the mid 80's.
