u do realize that in sony doing this people would would still end up paying the same price.. for example

PS3 slim no HDD: 199.99 plus tax.=220.00 or more depending where u live

HDD: most people would get one in the range of 160gb and 1TB so lets go half way. 640gb= 79.99 plus any tax.. still would be the same price.

@nuke888 Ok toxic avenger or who ever you are,the point is to buy one and install what ever hard drive you need,a person does not void ther warranty,so overall it's a decent idea, i simply said in the video retard,so WTF are you talking bout i ask!,the ps3 is a good system with minor weakness,the point is to get the ps3 into more homes,this would be a good way for more games to sell on the console toxic avenger,not just the harddrive,the new slim has lost many ps3 fat features. so price drop

I agree with you 100%. My old ps3 just died on me and i want to buy the new ps3 slim; but at the same time that new xbox 360 slim which costs $100.00 less looks pretty attractive. While i'm a ps3 man first, i would'nt mind buying the 360 slim right now till sony releases a ps3 arcade (no hdd).

sony cant do this because the startup program is located on the hdd without a hdd the console wont start up.

but thats not the only reason it has to do with cost. a hdd costs about $30-40 for sony to put in the console so to drop it down to $200 would mean they lose $60 of profit, and since you can use any HDD on ps3 that means sony will never recover that lost profit.

@flanker22 its different for xbox360 because even at $200 the xbox360 still sells at a profit, my guess is that it costs about $150-$180 to manufacture a xbox360 4GB. But since 360 uses a special hdd that means that they can make profit off the accessory too. ps3 120gb costs $290 to manufacture, if they remove the hdd it would cost around $260 to manufacture.

@ps3Storm3sp I was just about to say that... considering that most the older ps3 games use up to 5 gigs of space in order to play this idea wouldn't work. that being said there are some games that really need no installs at all... that being said too.. I think all the updates are installed on the hdd... so yeah there's no way it would work!

@steveandbobsho Nup just wouldn't work. Its all going backwards if you want to go that way and have to change Memory cards all the time depending on the games you play. Hard Disks are much cheaper now days. And I doubt a Ps3 without a HDD would be much cheaper than the current models. One can buy a 500GB HDD for around $75 Australian now days so the saving of a PS3 model without a hdd would not be much.

@steveandbobsho To add to my comment I would say it would be costing Sony approx $35 to put the 120GB HDD in that model and about $50 if that for the 250GB model. So realistically it just wouldn't be worth it. Most of what your paying for with the Ps3 is the Blue ray player plus the rest of the hardware. So I doubt very much selling a ps3 without a hdd makes any sense or would save us much at all. Afterall MS go about their ways with HDD's because they charge so much for them seperately.

@ps3Storm3sp so im guessing no ps3 price drop than maybe thay could re sell the 40 or 60 gig ps3 for a bargin or cheap console i dont no i see the ps3 gives more than xbox 360 but the 250 gig 360 is $299.99 vs the 250 gig ps3 is $349.99 since the slim took away ps2 games and some other features maybe thay should drop the 250 gig too $299.99

@steveandbobsho Just remember one big thing is. Im talking Aussie Dollars here btw. Buy the cheapest Ps3 ( ii think the 120GB slims are still available. ) buy a 1TB hdd for $99 and you have a 1TB Ps3. To put that price in perspective if you buy a 160GB hdd for a 360 it costs $199.

@steveandbobsho Even though this comment was directed at ps3strom,i agree i would like to see a 250 ps3 for $299,to tell you the truth i would gladly pay a extra $ 100 daollars to have acces to ps2 massive libary on ps3.I know i  know people always say, just buy a ps2 slim,but three gens of games on one system would be perfect imo for ps3.
