he said it was the first time they've been able to see the average depth of the ice yet then he says it's smaller than it's ever been???? what the hell if it's the first time you've been able to average it what do you have to compare it to?
If million cubic meters of ice have melted & the ice sheet retreated to record lows, where did the melted ice went? If it melted to water, it would raised the water level considerably, flooding the neighboring shorelines. The ice was NOT replaced by any rise in sea level locally or the sea levels all over the world. Could the ice also sublimated and the heated water (w/o ice cover) evaporated in the atmosphere? Dropping it as rain, hale & snow like the current weird weather we have all over.
I dont see how i can belive in the AGW theory without any doubt when not all scientists agree with it.
I do not consider myself smarter than ANY scientist, therefore my view in the matter is only making things worse. A theory can only be proven by future evidence in nature, and without that, AGW theory is not proven. We do not have all the warming variables, without them we can never be 100% sure what will happen in the future.
"The most recent period when CO2 levels were as high as today was around 15 million years ago, during the Middle Miocene. CO2 levels were at about 400 ppm.
"What was the climate like at the time? Global temperatures were 5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit higher than they are today.
"Sea level was approximately 75 to 120 feet higher. There was no permanent sea ice cap in the Arctic and very little ice on Antarctica and Greenland. "
"The total ice area in the Arctic reached its 2009 minimum on September 12, 2009 with approximately 4.5 mill sq. km. This is approximately 10 days earlier and almost 1 mill sq km. more than the record minimum of 2007. Compared to the minimum of 2008, this years total ice area minimum is ca. 700,000 mill. sq. km. higher."
arctic-roos . org
Arctic Regional Ocean Observing System (Arctic ROOS) has been established by a group of 14 member institutions from nine European countries.
All but one of the video image series ends in 2007--the worse year for arctic ice, and the one exception ends in summer 2008, so it doesn't show the arctic ice expansion of close to 1 million square kilometers since 2007.
This winter, 2009/2010, will have an even greater expansion of arctic ice, so I hope NASA makes an updated video next spring.
Since Al Gore, the corporate new media, NPR, BBC and scientists tied up in the CO2 and Climate Change agenda won't give you both sides of the story, why not take a look for yourself?
Scientists are being bullied to climb on board or risk ridicule and loss of funding, but there are many who are speaking up.
Joanne Simpson, the world's first woman to receive a Ph.D. in meteorology, expressed relief upon her retirement last year that she was finally free to speak "frankly" of her nonbelief.
At 1:22 "... in 2009 ... for the first time we were able to figure out what the thickness of the ice was all over the place and what we are finding is it is thinner now ..."
How can they find out it is thinner now when they could not even tell what the thickness was before.
The scientists at the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center in Bergen, Norway (NERSC), who study arctic ice for a living, say arctic ice is increasing since 2007
This winter, 2009/2010 is already shaping up to be a very cold one, with Austria having the most October snow in 25 years and Colorado ski areas are opening at their earliest time in 40 years.
The cooling corresponds to reduced solar activity, as NASA scientists well know.
The number of skeptics, far from shrinking, is swelling. Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe now counts more than 700 scientists who disagree with the U.N. -- 13 times the number who authored the U.N.'s 2007 climate summary for policymakers.
Dr. Kiminori Itoh, a Japanese environmental physical chemist who contributed to a U.N. climate report, dubs man-made warming "the worst scientific scandal in history."
Norway's Ivar Giaever, Nobel Prize winner for physics, decries it as the "new religion."
Read the principles upon which science is based. In short, build knowledge based on repeatable tests and experiments. NASA is a SCIENTIFIC organization where SCIENTISTS who devote their lives to the principles of SCIENCE to study the earth we live on. When the scientists tell us that the earth is warming up, they do so with more than 50 years of hundreds of thousands of other scientists working hard collecting data which supports the findings.
volcanic activity, over the eons, have spewed massive amounts of toxic gas into the atmosphere. but if you think Man isnt screwing up the environment, you're clearly wrong. i guess we'll have to wake up one day and notice the amphibians and most other mammals have disappeared before FOX News concludes we might have a problem.
Man's pollution is a serious problem, and it's important to work to reduce pollution and increase energy efficiency.
But the CO2 and climate change/global warming agenda is a scam.
The carbon tax is a tax on life itself, and benefits no one except the governments and global bankers who will collect it.
Carbon credits trading will have no effect on the climate, but will enrich the individuals and global corporations who trade in them and have a negative impact on the economies of the world.
The planet's topography is not stagnant. It changes all the time. Example, look at the moon. There are many craters on it because it shows all the asteroids that hit it over time. The earth should have the same topography, but it does not because the earth's topography constantly changes while the moon's does not. Of course the earth is changing that is what it will always do. Scientists know this; it just shows you that this Global Warming scam is in almost everything.

You couldn't made a better point about what really matter to deniers (I'm not saying "sceptics" here, keep that in mind): It's money. Try to take money away from people and they'll believe all kind of crap...
Strange to see Greenpeace and Exxon/Mobil in bed together.
15,000 government and corporate minions aren't flying to Copenhagen in December because they care about the environment--if they did, they'd stay home and hold the conference by satellite.
Scientists at the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center in Bergen, Norway (NERSC) say arctic ice is increasing.
But the propagandists don't let science get in the way of good propaganda for the globalists CO2 and Climate Change scam.
Looks like NASA is behind the carbon tax on the world's population, along with supporting big bucks for people like Al Gore and the Rothschilds in carbon credits trading and the sale of carbon offsets.
You must have problem differentiation minimum and maximums. "the minimum ice area ever observed in the Arctic was 3293737.4 km2 on 08/07 in year 2009" - NERSC web site.
"The Nansen Center monitors daily the Arctic Sea ice area using various satellite data sources. The latest satellite data are from 10/15/2009 when the Arctic ice area was 6067830.4 km2. The minimum in 2008 was observed on 08/07 being 3293737.4 km2. For comparison the minimum ice area ever observed in the Arctic was 3293737.4 km2 on 08/07 in year 2009. Further information at arctic-roos . org/observations."
He probably meant to put in the 2007 data for the minimum, because if you go to arctic-roos . org/observations and click on "Arctic ice area and extent from SSMI (NERSC)" you'll see that the ice area has been increasing since 2007.
Excellent stuff.. ty NASA, Some people will still demand that climate change is not happening, but never before have ice caps melted at this degree. It is not just a matter of the earth warming either, it is a pattern of extreme weather patterns, from hot to cold, including such things as tidal waves.

Yes, if by "we" you mean "NASA" and not "humans".
The Chinese Navy were able to sail to the north pole during the medieval warm period. The earth is warmer today than it's been in the last couple hundred years, but not the last 1000 years.
"The earth is warmer today than it's been in the last couple hundred years, but not the last 1000 years"
But it has way more CO2 than in the past million.
The expected warming, taking into account natural cycles and variations, is likely to be of a scale which swamps nature.
CO2 warming dominates the data so it is hard to see how nature will respond. the sea will soon be at saturation so really we should stop CO2 now rather than risk it. esp as warming will cause big probs anyway.
What are you talking about? Are you referring to the correlation of CO2 and temperature that Al Gore showed off? If so, I bet you didn't realize that the CO2 lags the temperature by about 800 years. Temperature changed first.
When solar luminance, however, is plotted over temperature we see a total correlation. 90% of the warming over the last 100 years can be attributed to solar activity.
I'll concede the Chinese North pole story. To be honest I had heard about it in a video rebutting GW alarmism, but not bothered to verify it.
One thing that is true, however is the existence of viking farms in Greenland that are now covered in permafrost and ice. The medieval warm period DID exist and the temperature was even warmer than today.

no one can say 100% that it is human activity. whairs the proof? thair is no proof at all just speculation an we will not know for a good few hundred years yet, mabee it will warm up as it has in the past, just rember that england was once a tropical forest now look at it. but then mabee it will cool down. noone knows for sure
I'm all for a cleaner planet, but that is not what the globalists' CO2 and climate change scam is all about--as usual, it's all about big bucks.
Governments are drooling at the prospect of a carbon tax on all human activity.
And the globalists are all lined up to fill their pockets on carbon credits trading and the sale of carbon offsets.
None of those will do anything to improve the environment--they will further hurt the economies of the world and place an even greater burden on the poor.
Some of the globalist individuals and corporations who support the CO2 and Climate Change agenda: The World Bank, The International Monetary Fund, World Trade Organization David De Rothschild Rothschild Bank Barlcays Bank JP Morgan Chase (jpmorganclimatecare . com) David Rockefeller Exxon/Mobil Dupont General Electric Shell Oil George W. Bush Anders Fogh Rasmussen Abdalla Salem El-Badri, OPEC Secretary General and of course, Al Gore, Generation Investment Management carbon credits company.
Well, since the oil companies have been lining their pockets for years (and sticking it to the consumer in the process), I'd rather the "globalists" had their time in the sun (pun intended). Seriously though, the way we do things now is not working. I say, if its broke, lets at least try to fix it. What do we have to lose?
gary's point is well taken. We do need to beware of the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. Sonic has good point as well. What needs to be established is that the correlation between human activity and climate change is in fact causal in nature and that if it is so that it is a major/significant causal factor

Who's denying climate change? The climate has always changed.
The science, however, says the primary cause is solar activity, not CO2, and with solar activity reduced, the arctic ice is now expanding.
The primary greenhouse gas is water vapor.
CO2 is a trace gas and 0.038% of the atmosphere.
CO2 is vital to plant life, including phytoplankton, and plant life is what produces the oxygen we need.
Plants thrive better in an atmosphere of 0.1% CO2 or almost 3 times the current level.

In which mythological tale did the Chinese navy sail the north pole during the mythical medieval warmth period?
tantpwei 2 years ago
I'll concede the Chinese North pole story. To be honest I had heard about it in a video rebutting GW alarmism, but not bothered to verify it.
One thing that is true, however is the existence of viking farms in Greenland that are now covered in permafrost and ice. The medieval warm period DID exist and the temperature was even warmer than today.

@Libertarianist They can't explain the recent warming without including man-made co2 pollution in the greenhouse.

how do we know that it human activity thats causing this? we have had big freezes and big melts in the past so how do we knnow thats it is not that? this is a serious question im not being flipant

Population of humans went from 2,521 million in 1950 to 6,707 million in 2008, to think that this has no affect on planet earth is absurd.

no one can say 100% that it is human activity. whairs the proof? thair is no proof at all just speculation an we will not know for a good few hundred years yet, mabee it will warm up as it has in the past, just rember that england was once a tropical forest now look at it. but then mabee it will cool down. noone knows for sure

Personally, I'd rather play it safe. The stakes are just too high. Also, if we're wrong, it just means we have a cleaner planet. Isn't that good?

I'm all for a cleaner planet, but that is not what the globalists' CO2 and climate change scam is all about--as usual, it's all about big bucks.
Governments are drooling at the prospect of a carbon tax on all human activity.
And the globalists are all lined up to fill their pockets on carbon credits trading and the sale of carbon offsets.
None of those will do anything to improve the environment--they will further hurt the economies of the world and place an even greater burden on the poor.

OK it's 99.9% certain so what
What is your point?
England used to rule the world now it overrun with Muslims, things change.
Ozone depletion is caused by man's shabby treatment of the earth.

There is tons of proof. Try looking for it.

gary's point is well taken. We do need to beware of the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. Sonic has good point as well. What needs to be established is that the correlation between human activity and climate change is in fact causal in nature and that if it is so that it is a major/significant causal factor

I'm amazed NASA can keep so many satellites orbiting without colliding. 8)

Space is big, really big But, sometimes there are collisions.

imagine if the 11.6 trillion $ that was tossed to bankers was given to NASA. Great jobs with a future in many areas would have been available.

Or the money that usually goes to the defence department. So much wasted for so little, despite the opportunities staring humanity in the face.

Imagine if, rather than parting with 4 years of revenue through bailouts they parted with 4 years of revenue by suspending taxation for 4 years.

You must be talking about funds from the "Federal Reserve."
Well, the Federal Reserve is a "private bank" created/owned in 1913 by 14 elite banking families of the world.
Science, isn't one of their interests.
