As an American, I consider it an honor to have Ronald Wilson Reagan as my president. Although he was a B rated actor, he was a fine man and politician.
Boy, could we sure use President Reagan's guidance now! Too bad this second inaugural address of Ronald Reagan's couldn't be held outdoors (as it was too cold that day). But gosh, Mr. Reagan had a lot of great things to say about our great nation. His was the greatest two Presidential terms in our nation's history. Well spoken, Mr. President!
Ronald Reagan = Champion of Freedom! I miss you, Sir!
his talk about jefferson and franklin could bring me to tears if i wasnt the man i was. what a great speech, what a great man. we need a ronald reagan right now, a "reagan" of our time if you will, to oust obama. if ronnie could see what is happening today in our legislature, he would turn over in his grave... but i know hes looking down on us and he will influence us more than we know. god bless this man
There is no one who talks like this anymore. Did you see the politicians crap their pants when he said freeze federal spending? He was definitely an outsider.
There's no one in the GOP who's been able to come close to Reagan. If the Ronald Reagan that the country knew back in the 1980s, were around now and ran in 2012, he would win by the same kind of landslides that happened in 1980 and 1984. Those landslides were no accident. He was a very strong leader.
It was too cold to have the ceremony outdoors, so a number of us headed back to the hotel to watch on the big screen TV. We all stood when they entered the rotunda, recited the pledge, watched the inauguration and later shared some champagne with about 150 of our new best friends... may God continue to bless America!
Sniklefritz: answer - because we are not a 3rd world nation.
I am in awe of Ronald Reagan. I got to shake his hand once- I touched greatness. No speaker since has moved me like he still does. God please send us another.
I do not think that we should be throwing big and elaborate Inaugurations anymore. They are too "imperialistic like a throwback to kings and queens. Also, we cannot afford the cost of them. Obama's inauguration in 2009 cost $400 million.
Why not have a simple yet dignified ceremony in the East Room of the White House? That means no 21-gun salutes, no Hail to the Chief, no parades, and no inaugural balls.
@urbanncowboy They held it in the Capitol Rotunda and could only jam about 1,000 people into there, including all 535 members of Congress and staff, the Marine Band, TV crews, etc. Not much space.
If you would also notice the date it is 1 day after the date in the constitution says the inaugration is supposed to take place. But that year it was bitterly cold and President Reagan did not want all of those people standing out in the cold for hours. So the ceremony was held in the US Capitol routonda.
@Ranger337 Technically he took the oath on Sunday the 20th at the White House. Presidents have a had a tradition of not taking the oath on Sundays and postponing it until the next day (Monroe, Taylor, Hayes, Wilson, Eisenhower). However, out of concerns of power in the event of a nuclear attack and who would be in power, the presidents will take the oath "privately" on a Sunday and then publicly the next day, but in RR's case, it was below 0 so they moved it inside. 2013 is the next year.
One, because January 20 fell on a Sunday and two the following day had very freezing temperatures , coldest day yet about under7 degrees Fahrenheit so they did it inside the Capitol.
We love you in Ireland President Reagan! God bless you. ~

Notice how he tries to UNITE, not divide, notice how he says "WE" and not I, notice how he doesn't whine, point a finger and blame. What a contrast!

Best president in our lifetime. Balls, charisma and humility in one package!
Ones after him are not worthy to shine his shoes.

I think due to bad weather, they moved the Inaugural events indoors that year, but he still made a great address.
