  • Nice cover.

  • Love it!! I heard this recently in a sweets advert and I had to immediately search for it. Very nicely done, any chance you can post the chords and strumming pattern? Many thanks!!

  • Have to say, I just stumbled upon your corner of YouTube, you have a certain quality in how you interpret these songs. This track is now haunting me in a good way! thank you!

  • Hi, nicely played! Do you have tabs for this, or direction for where to find them? I can only find chords.

  • Beautifully done!

  • Thank you very much!

  • So very beautifully done!!

  • Thank you very much Mousie!

  • Wow! Wow! Wow! This is so beautiful Michelle! A million stars for this and favourited! :-D I love your playing and singing XX

  • Ruth, you're so sweet! Thank you so much. You really made me smile when I read your comment xx

  • WOW! That was really awesome! Very affecting - great singing, 5's all 'round.

BTW - my neighborhood (In Midwest US) thinks it's in Australia. All streets are named either Brisbane, Melbourne, Devereaux, Victoria, or some such.

Anyway, thanks for that one - it was a real treat!

  • Hi Shawn, I tried to reply a week ago, but just saw that it didn't go through. Thank you so much for your comment! That's so funny that your neighbourhood has so many Australian street names. Are you anywhere near Brisbane Street? :)

  • You're welcome for the comment - I just listened again and it's still a great performance.

I live on Manning, between Melbourne and Alameda. Funny - I should go into neighborhood planning - all streets would be named Ohana or Kala or Mainland.

  • There's a Ferrick street down the road from me. the name of my favourite singer. I've always wanted to live there. If I was in neighbourhood planning, there would definitely be a Koaloha street somewhere! :) Thanks again for your lovely comment.

  • Thank you Tony. I'll have to try the elastic bands next time I need a string change! lol Thank you for watching, and for always watching! I really appreciate it.

  • you did a wonderful job on this Michelle...

    just lovely,

    todd

  • Thank you very much Todd! Hope you're having a great week.

  • Fantastic! Absolutely love it!

  • Thank you so much Mary-Anne!

  • You delivered the emotion of the song so nicely. Great.

  • Thank you very much. I really appreciate your comment. I'm glad you liked it!

  • Wow! Sweetly sung and beautifully played! LOVE IT!

  • Thank you so much John! And thank you for the favourite! I'm really glad you liked it.

  • What a beautiful song and performance, Michelle. You always choose the greatest songs that sound even better on ukulele and sung by you. I'm always so happy when I see a new video of you appearing in my subscription box! It's a real pleasure listening to you playing and singing (^_^)

  • Thank you so much Sebi! That's really lovely of you to say. I'm always happy when I see one of your videos appear in my subscription box too. I hope you're feeling better now!

  • they sure did write some good music

    great cover too

    5 stars :)

  • Thanks very much Kenny!

  • Always loved this song Michelle. Beautiful version!

  • Thank you very much James! I appreciate it.

  • So lovely :)

  • Thank you Caroline!

  • Michelle, I loved it. It's gone to my favorites :)

Your vocal is so calm and peaceful. Arpeggio with a bit of hammering/pulling does works.

This set of strings seems to fully take advantage of Kala's potential. It actually does not sound like Kala LOL.

One more. Nice T-shirt! :) Nam didn't mention mine in his vid, hehe.

  • Thank you so much for the favourite Terry :)

I'm glad you liked it. Yes, these strings make such a difference. I really enjoy playing the Kala now. It's like a new ukulele.

    And I noticed your t-shirt in Nam's video! :)

  • very peacefull ...

  • Thank you very much, and thanks for watching!

  • That's really a lovely song, Michelle! I knew it only from a reggea version and now found out that that was a cover! I like the way you play it much better! your picking is really great!

    greetings to down under, Enrico

  • Thank you Enrico! I have to admit, I actually have heard the Boy George version way more than the original and that's sort of a reggae style. I don't think I'd do reggae very well though, so I kept with the original. Thank you for watching, and greetings to you and Little Bear!

  • Yeah that's the version I meant! I did forget who made it, Boy George... I like your version way better!

  • Very nice work, as always. Nice Kala (didn't know you owned one).

  • Thank you Michael! My Kala was one of the first ukes I bought. I was never too happy with it to begin with though, and while I played it quite a bit back then, I never used it in any videos. These strings have made all the difference though and I'm really enjoying it now. Hope you're having a great week!

  • So far so good, thanks (not a ill as I was). Kala's grow on people. Do you know if the strings come with the high G? All the best.

  • Sorry to hear you've been sick Michael! I'm glad you're feeling better. They're actually classical guitar strings (the four highest strings), so they don't come in high G, but I'm guessing the highest string could also be used as a G string if you wanted to.

  • the Michelle touch...you turn your songs into gold

  • That's so lovely! Thank you Joseph!

  • Very well done! Beautiful playing and singing.

  • Thank you very much Lonna!

  • Really nice Michelle! I forgot about Bread...they have a bunch of hits that would be good on the uke. You sure make that Kala sound great. Terrific singing too!!!

  • Thank you Kevin! I actually hadn't played my Kala for ages until I got these strings. They made such a difference - really nice for picking. I'd forgotten about Bread too, but they have some great songs. This one came up on my iPod and I instantly knew I had to learn it. I hope you're well. Looking forward to watching your latest when I get home tonight!

  • very sweet! Really liked it! Simple and sincere.

  • Thank you very much Chris! Yes, I love the simplicity of 70s songs. Thanks for watching!

  • Chapeau madame,strength to strength.

  • Thank you very much Keith! I'm looking forward to your next video....

  • Great video Michelle. I agree with Russ

Your vocals are simply amazing now. Great job

  • Thank you so much Nam! I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for your encouragement and support.

  • Michelle, your vocals are just getting better and better with each video! beautiful playing as well.

  • Thank you very much Russell! Your hints about the Audacity settings certainly helped with that. I've been playing around with it much more now.

  • Lovely Michelle. Great song! You always choose well. Abfab :)

  • Thank you very much Anna!

  • A lovely song, Michelle. Good choice. You sang beautifully. That was always my favorite David Gates song. "If" was always a little too syrupy for my tastes.

  • Thank you so much Paul! I agree about "If"... a bit too syrupy. I'm loving these old 70s songs... such simple music back then.

  • I love the 70s. So much great stuff: Elton John, John Denver, Led Zeppelin, Jim Croce, Stones and a ton more. I choose to forget about disco. Hahaha

  • Me too! I think I have just about every 70s compilation cd ever released, and I just put them on my iPod and delete the disco songs. lol

I think some of the 70s ballads are the nicest ever written.

  • I think you just gave me a new motto to live life by: Delete the Disco! haha

You are right about the ballads of the 70s: "Operator" by Jim Croce, "Best of My Love" by the Eagles, "Just the Way You Are" by Billy Joel, "Color My World" by Chicago, "Sara Smile" by Hall and Oates, and "You've Got a Friend" by James Taylor are some of my favorites. Opps, almost forgot "Fire and Rain." So good.

  • Ah yes! I like all of those too. "You've Got A Friend" is one I've been playing for a while too. Maybe I'll do a video sometime.

  • I would love to cover a Jim Crose song, but I have one small problem. I have to figure out how to sing first.

  • Awesome job Michelle! I love it! And my wife says there was a padded envelope from Australia in the mail today... Weehuu!

  • I'm so glad it arrived! I was a little worried about customs. I've been watching an episode each night before I go to sleep. Awesome show!

  • Very cool! I was singing right along

  • Yay! My job here is done if I can get someone to sing along :) Thanks Grumpy!

  • Beautiful!

  • Thank you!

  • Beautifully done, Michelle. It's a timeless tune.

(And thanks for posting the lyrics.)

  • Thank you very much Bruce, and you're very welcome about the lyrics.

  • Nice one.

You've got quite a collection of ukuleles in the background. Where's the fluke? Enjoy anything you play.

  • Thank you! I still have the fluke! It must have been behind me, or further along the wall. I know, I have way too many ukes, but they all get played, and they all sound a bit different! :)

  • Makes me feel young again. Great cover! I love the shirt, and I'm intrigued about the strings. I have Aquilas on most of my ukes, but I am starting to not like them so much. My newest uke came strung with fishing line and I liked the lighter touch. Do you like the feel of the d'Addarios?

  • Thank you Don! I do like the feel of the d'Addarios. It took a while to get used to the wound low G string - for a while it made a noise when I moved my finger, but I adjusted to it pretty quickly. I love the sound of these strings for picking. The compression of this video doesn't really show the lovely ringing sound that they have, and the wound low g gives it a great bass sound. For strumming though, my favourite strings are still Worth strings.

  • I just want the T-shirt! Awesome!

And that uke sounds magnificent. i'll have to try those strings. Eh, Deaaach??? :)

    You sound magnificent, too, Michelle.

  • Thank you Alan! If they do another print run of the t-shirts, I'll let you know! They are pretty cool shirts.

The strings are available at Just Strings. They wanted to charge a ridiculous price for postage to Australia though, so Deach was kind enough to send me a set.

  • Lovely work! And great job on the picking!

  • Thank you very much!

  • I had forgotten this song! Thanks for doing it and a fine job too!

  • Thank you so much. I had forgotten about it too, but it's such a lovely song. Thank you for watching.

  • Very comfortable music.

    Lovely performance!

  • ありがとうございます。

Thank you very much for always watching!

  • Lovely performance, Michelle. It is a great song.

  • Thank you very much Ken. Yes, I love this song. After hearing it last week after so long, I just had to learn it.

  • Great job Michelle! This song makes my hair grow back!

  • Thank you Craig. I'm loving the 70s songs at the moment, so you'll probably hear more of them coming soon!

  • I liked this version a lot better than the original, very nice !

  • Thank you very much Gwendal! What a lovely comment.

  • Stunningly beautiful :)

  • Thank you very much Barry!

  • Very nice Michelle! Your playing and singing just keeps getting better.

  • Thank you so much Derek!

  • Hey, cool shirt!

Lovely singing and playing MIchelle! Your poor Koalohas look so jealous.

  • Thank you Deach! And the Koalohas aren't jealous... as soon as I finished this video I was playing my superconcert. Can't stay away for long! I do love these strings for picking though. Such a lovely sound. Thank you!
