Just to clarify for anyone; mermaids and fairies cannot be found in sims 2 OR sims 3. These are mods downloaded off the internet, none of which I own. I am not sure if it can be found in sims original or if there is anything more than a costume. If I designed it, it would have been more like an actual life state. You would become one by making out with another mermaid that you could find on the beach swimming in the ocean. (so you would need bon voyage) There would be benefits like

You dont have to MAKE them, you can go to the Sims 2 website sign up and register your game, then click exchange and click sims then type Mermaid or fairy into the search box. Sadly, you cant get these for Sims 3 yet because its new. I was pretty bummed too. :)
