I would be wary of large companies like Google creating competition for other providers. I am not saying it is a bad thing, in fact I would love if Google could come to Denver, but it has the potential to be bad. Home Depot is a great example where they will move into a community with much fan fare, effectively eliminate smaller mom and pop hardware stores, then cut employee salaries and basically replace experienced people with minimum wage teens as there is no longer competition in the area.

@v12tommy good point about the large chain stores, Walmart is another good example of that. But, how many small 'mom and pop' ISP's are there out there?? Google is going to be busting on the big companies who charge over the odds for internet and don't invest enough in the networks.

I think the competition from Google will be a good thing, in fact I think it will be a great thing, I just think it has the potential to be a very bad thing as well and it is something that people should be aware of and keep an eye on. I think 4G and 802.22 will both help break the broadband monopoly as well.

Well chesterinoaussie, I don't think google is monopolizing anything. I see it as, they're trying to get other companies to innovate. The gigabit Internet will be priced competitively. These other companies have to stop taking advantage of us. Home Internet shouldn't be tiered or restricted like cell phones. It's way easier to provide service to homes than mobiles.

I honestly think it should be illegal for Google to have such a massive stake in so many different industries. There is the search engine, Android, Chrome, YouTube, Google Music, there will be a Google PC OS and finally Google Internet. It is just too much for one company to have a monopoly on.
