  • I must agree with you, hearing her Debussy. She is not only a great opera singer with a very beautiful, big and solid voice, but can sing Schubert and Debussy also, which I did not know.. Thank you so much! Rainer

  • @CurzonRoad Thank you, Doug. I appreciate that. This is my first experiment with a long video. I was afraid nobody would open it:-)

  • Just as Traubel was somewhat eclipsed by Flagstad in the Wagnerian repertoire, Farrell was by Nilsson. For those who heard her in live performance, however, she was unforgettable, and not only in Wagner. Possessed of a voice of unique power, she was nonetheless a sensitive artist and could shade and color her tones beautifully. She was skillful in several music styles among classical composers as well as jazz and blues. Her recording of the lament from Peer Gynt is still among my favorites. TY.

  • @meltzerboy Thank you very much for such a well-informed comment. Yes, indeed. I agree. I heard her in person, in fact I was sitting very close to her, and her voice was like solid pillar of sound, from top to bottom. It was an amazing voice, perfectly produced. A super singer!
