Just as Traubel was somewhat eclipsed by Flagstad in the Wagnerian repertoire, Farrell was by Nilsson. For those who heard her in live performance, however, she was unforgettable, and not only in Wagner. Possessed of a voice of unique power, she was nonetheless a sensitive artist and could shade and color her tones beautifully. She was skillful in several music styles among classical composers as well as jazz and blues. Her recording of the lament from Peer Gynt is still among my favorites. TY.
